A Black voter engagement video project: Marcella Riley, A retired Milwaukee NAACP secretary expresses her frustration at not being able to take seniors to the polls during the pandemic and what she’ll do instead to get out the vote."
Transcript
00:00I liked the work that I had there at the NAACP. Whatever happened, the NAACP were the first ones
00:06that the community would call on. My mother and father and friends and relatives were determined
00:14to vote. It was hard for them, but they were determined to vote. If you want changes,
00:23let people know what you want and where you're on your way to. I won't be able to take people
00:27to the polls because of this COVID-19 pandemic. I'll miss that because I always look forward to
00:34picking up people, taking them to the polls. My sister was in a nursing home for four years,
00:40and I would always go to that nursing home, pick them up and take them to the polls and vote.
00:46I'll call people and encourage them to vote. We just have to do the best we can. Never give up.
00:57Also, I appreciate it.
