00:00Hey, Naturally Curly World. I'm Alexandra. I'm Jerilyn. And today we are being quizzed on our knowledge of Black History.
00:08Not only because it's Black History Month, but because I think
00:11Aunt Jackie's, who sponsored this video, just kind of wants to put the fire to us. So let's see.
00:17Yeah, it's going to be real because history's not my forte. So it should be interesting.
00:21I'm ready to be bundled up and dragged. So I'm ready for the dragging, but I'm also really ready to get into these products.
00:29Yeah, so we're going to wash our hair, try out these products. So thank you again, Aunt Jackie's, for sponsoring this video. And y'all stay tuned.
00:35So today I'm going to use Not On My Watch Instant Detangling Therapy by Aunt Jackie's and also their Curl La La Curl Custard.
00:44It's going to be awesome. And I'm going to do all of this while doing a twist out and being quizzed about Black History Month.
00:52One of these things I think I'm going to do good at, the other thing not so much. So let's figure out which one it is.
00:59Brush my hair with some water and then add the Not On My Watch Detangler.
01:02Then I guess they're going to start asking me these questions and hopefully I'm ready for them.
01:08Just do a little mist.
01:10Okay, y'all, it's time for the first question. Let's see how this goes.
01:14Female African-American inventor Lida Newman invented which common household item?
01:19A. The cell phone.
01:21B. The refrigerator.
01:23C. The hairbrush.
01:24I'm not even going to lie, y'all never heard the name before.
01:28I haven't heard of a Newman refrigerator.
01:32I haven't heard of a Newman cell phone, so I'm going to go with the brush.
01:36This is straight guessing game right now.
01:39I'm going to go with refrigerator.
01:45This is clearly not a quiz. I guess it's a history lesson, huh?
01:48So the detangling therapy actually is really nice.
01:53This is a really lightweight detangler, which is good because I don't like to use heavy cream products on my hair.
01:59It lays my hair down.
02:00You know, with 4C hair, it's kind of tough to get all of the product to work its way through from the ends to the root.
02:08And this is thin enough to actually help you do that.
02:13It's actually helping me detangle my hair very, very nicely.
02:18Who was the first black major party presidential candidate?
02:22A. Barack Obama.
02:23B. Shirley Chisholm.
02:25C. Frederick Douglass.
02:27D. Thurgood Marshall.
02:32Y'all, politics is something that I am not interested in at all.
02:37Um, I'm just going to go with Shirley Chisholm because that sounds like a great candidate.
02:45I'm, I really want to say Shirley Chisholm.
02:48Can I phone a friend?
02:50I'm going to go with Shirley Chisholm.
02:52That's right.
02:52Yes!
02:54So now that my hair is detangled, I am now going to style it with the Don't Shrink Flaxseed Elongate and Curling Gel.
03:02During Shirley Chisholm's 1972 presidential campaign,
03:05how many attempts were made to assassinate her?
03:08A. One.
03:10B. Two.
03:11Or C. Three.
03:12I'm going to say I hope my sister didn't have to go through the struggle more than once.
03:17I'm going to say one time.
03:20So I didn't even know that she was trying to get assassinated.
03:23I'm just going to go with one.
03:24Ah, goodness.
03:27Just trying to keep us, ooh, trying to keep us down.
03:30Why are you trying to keep us down?
03:32So I'm going to use the Curl A La.
03:35Look at that.
03:35Look at how thick that is.
03:37It's real nice.
03:38It's really easy to use.
03:39And the plus side has great protein such as flaxseed and vitamin E.
03:43I really like it because the consistency is really lightweight.
03:47Since I have low porosity hair, I'm not going to use quite this much for each twist.
03:54But what I do want to do is start kind of sectioning out with it.
03:59So at least towards the root, it gets some good coverage.
04:03I can already tell my curls are really defined.
04:05So I like to start in the middle.
04:07It's not going to be perfect because once I take it out, it's going to be twisty and awesome.
04:14Who is a Grammy Award winner?
04:16A. Queen Latifah.
04:18B. Herbie Hancock.
04:20C. Barack Obama.
04:21Or D. All of the above.
04:24I'm going to say all of the above.
04:26I'm going with Queen Latifah.
04:29Yes!
04:30Okay.
04:31Barack?
04:32How did I miss that?
04:33Oh.
04:34Oh, he just does it all, huh?
04:36I like how there's a gentle slip.
04:39It is formulated to thoroughly moisturize dry curls.
04:43I went ahead and made sure my hair was wet when I used this because I didn't want my curls to break.
04:50And the easiest way for them to break is if they're dry.
04:53So now I'm just going to have to do a deep part.
04:57And then I'll probably even do some finger curls in the front just for more to find them.
05:02What is Oprah's real name on her birth certificate?
05:06A. Aura.
05:07B. Olufemi.
05:10C. Orpa.
05:11Or D. Octavia.
05:15I just, I'm so afraid to answer because in my heart I know the answer.
05:20Okay, my soul I know the answer.
05:23I'm not going to prolong it and I'm going to go with A. Aura.
05:27C.
05:28Yeah, that's when they do know it's somebody over.
05:32So I finished twisting my hair and I locked them in with Bantu knots just to keep them secure so they can set easily as I dry them.
05:42So whenever I come back with dry hair I'm going to go ahead and take the twists out.
05:46I'm going to style and hopefully not be annihilated by more Black History Month questions.
05:53Who is the highest earning female athlete of all times in terms of prize money across all sports?
06:01A. Gabby Douglas.
06:02B. Lisa Leslie.
06:05C. Venus Williams.
06:07Or D. Serena Williams.
06:08Serena.
06:09My gut is telling me Serena Williams so that's who I'm going with.
06:18Before you even said the question I was like Serena.
06:21I'm so proud of Serena and Venus and all the athletic Black women out there.
06:29Y'all better go ahead.
06:30Who was the first African American named as Time Magazine's Person of the Year?
06:36A. Booker T. Washington.
06:38B. Martin Luther King Jr.
06:40C. Muhammad Ali.
06:42Or D. Barack Obama.
06:44Muhammad Ali.
06:46My heart tells me Muhammad Ali so I'm going to say Muhammad Ali.
06:52Clearly I am trash.
06:53Didn't MLK have waves?
06:56Pretty sure he did.
06:56Had a great mustache.
06:58And also thank you.
07:00Thank you for having an amazing dream.
07:03So we are back.
07:04Hair is cute.
07:06Okay.
07:07Yes.
07:07Tell me about that quiz though.
07:09How did you think you did?
07:10Honestly I think I did terribly but I also think I did better than you.
07:15Um I heard you like screaming and yelling so I'm pretty sure you probably bombed it.
07:21But let's just find out.
07:24Carolyn won.
07:24What?
07:25She got four and I'll do that three.
07:27Okay.
07:28That's what I call a landslide.
07:30I'm blacker than you.
07:32Did she really go there?
07:33Okay.
07:34Okay.
07:35We both did good.
07:36We did.
07:37We're both black people.
07:38Yes.
07:38We both failed.
07:41Man.
07:42So this is my finished product.
07:44I really like it.
07:45My curls look really defined, moisturized, and shiny.
07:49So thank you again and thank you for their products and happy Black History Month.
07:54All right you guys.
07:55So this is my final look.
07:57I feel really nice and pretty and cute with my twist out.
08:01I think next time I'll definitely make the twist a little bit smaller in the front.
08:05But I'm really digging it.
08:07As far as the quiz, I think I could have done better.
08:11This quiz has taught me that even though I have much love and admiration for my black people
08:18and I thought that I knew almost, well I thought I knew everything about us, there's
08:23still more room for me to grow.
08:25That's why we have Black History Month.
08:26This is about us learning more about our culture and where we come from.
08:31So thank you Aunt Jackie's.
08:32That was pretty rad.
08:33Thank y'all for watching.
08:34And most importantly, thank you to our sponsor Aunt Jackie's for providing these amazing products
08:38and giving our hair some much needed life.
08:41And we want to know, have you tried Aunt Jackie's products?
08:44These specifically right here?
08:46If you have, go ahead and tell us about it in the comments below.
