Transport Minister Anthony Loke on Thursday (Feb 5) said that cable theft is not merely crime, but an act of sabotage of public safety that requires stronger deterrents under the law.

He said that the thieves are growing brazen due to high copper prices and are willing to risk their lives for quick profits.

01:14What is the question about the Pindahan Pindahan Pindahan?
01:16What is the question about the Pindahan Pindahan?
01:19What is the Opportunity of Pindahan Pindahan?
01:23So when the KT five starts to pick up the Pindahan Pindahan,
01:26But I think that the Kementerian Peragutan is really encouraging.
01:29This is something for the operators to look at what kind of material and what kind of material to protect it.
01:35I think in terms of design, the structure design, of course the operators have to relocate it.
01:40But this is, of course, easiest thing to do.
01:42Many of our infrastructure have been there for many years.
01:46So in order for us to change the entire structure is something much bigger in terms of expenses and all that.
01:53But I think more importantly is enforcement by the police and a strong message must be sent out.
01:59And there are certain sections which I think the police will have more information.
02:04And they were able to catch the suspects in terms of cable theft.
02:10But I think in terms of changing it to material which is not easily can be stolen,
02:16I have to leave it to the operator to see what they can do about it.
02:20Do you think it's insider, where it's insider, where it's in, where it goes?
02:26No, I do not want to speculate on that. It's unfair for me to speculate on that.
02:32But I think some of it, of course, we know that when the copper price is high,
02:38this will encourage the thief to be more active.
02:43And these are areas in areas where it's secreted, areas which are not easily tracked by our operators.
02:52This is something which I think probably they are syndicates, we do not know,
02:58that is involved in this kind of activities.
03:02So because we know that, for example, what they are looking for is a copper.
03:06Because the returns are high.
03:08The price are high for copper.
03:11That's why they are very active despite the risk.
03:14Despite the risk of the thief.
03:16Because these are life track.
03:18And our life track, I want to just remind them,
03:20our life track actually are all electrified.
03:23If they do, they don't get anything to be theftime.
03:30Okay.
03:31This is an arma for them.
03:32So I can't be able to do that if we have any change ofæ» in the life track or loss.
03:38What are the things that we can do in life track?
03:42Because it's a place that is an issue of last track.
03:45So we don't need a single one or no one,
03:48Because it's the place that is a life track.
03:51But because he has a high return, he has a risk.
03:57So I want to remember them,
03:59don't because of the value or the value of this,
04:03then his own life will be removed.
