00:00Okay, you're live. Happy Monday! It's me, Alexandra, and I am here to talk to y'all about today about
00:08really best products and advice for our wavies and for our girls with finer hair.
00:14But you already know, if you have any questions, feel free to comment below and we will answer them.
00:19So I am back from vacation and y'all, it's a little tough coming back from vacay after being out for a week.
00:24But it's a new week and I'm here and I'm really excited to hop back into it.
00:30And I have one really big tip for y'all that I learned on my vacation.
00:35Since I have a little melanin in my skin, I was feeling like I didn't have to use sunblock.
00:41And I didn't put any sunblock on my face.
00:44And I'm a little burnt up here by my forehead.
00:47So that has been a struggle, y'all.
00:49My skin has been really, really dry.
00:52So for the past few days, I have been on moisture overload.
00:56So just a quick tip for y'all, if y'all are out there traveling, bring you some face lotion and CVS in it.
01:02And please moisturize your skin because that is a huge, huge misconception.
01:08So definitely bring that with you and travel back.
01:09So today we are talking about best products and advice for definitions for wavies and girls in like our 2B and 3A curl patterns.
01:22And our first question is really about getting definition at the root of your hair.
01:32And this is the question.
01:34How can I get the top of my head to curl like the bottom?
01:38I struggle with getting the top of my head to curl as it pins straight up about 3 inches down.
01:45From then on, it's super curly.
01:47It's very unflattering and causes me to be hesitant to wear my hair natural.
01:52I'm at a loss for what to do.
01:53So for the wavies out there, y'all probably already know about this method.
01:59But if you don't, it is called the O-clipping method.
02:03And what that is, is you tilt your head to the side just to get your hair off of the root.
02:09And well, off of your scalp.
02:12And then you tilt your head over and then you grab some clips and you start clipping them at the root.
02:16Now make sure that your clip is turned the outside so it's not actually coming down on your scalp.
02:23And you would apply, so you would obviously tilt over, apply some styling product, and then clip your roots.
02:30And you're doing it in an O, in the shape of an O.
02:33And you would apply that and leave it on your head throughout 15-20 minutes.
02:38And then you can even apply it in different spots too just so that you're not left with like that clip and dintion.
02:44But I've heard that that works great for many, many wavies and stylists.
02:49So definitely give that a try.
02:50And you can use different, there's so many different types of clips out there, y'all.
02:54So depending on your hair density and your length, you can use bigger ones, smaller ones, single prong, double prongs, even vinyl ones.
03:02So definitely try that out and hope that works for you.
03:05So another one is, help, I lost my curly hair.
03:11My roots are wavy, but the ones surrounding and framing my face are extremely curly while the rest of my hair, ear down, is straight.
03:18I truly don't know what to do considering my hair is all over the place.
03:21Will they ever come back?
03:23So yes, your curls will definitely come back.
03:25You can definitely try finger coiling.
03:28That's like my favorite go-to method for adding definition to my hair when it's in this natural state.
03:35Or you can even try a flexi rod.
03:38So those are just like foam rollers.
03:41And you can just apply a gel or a mousse to your hair where you feel like, um, where you feel like it's a lot looser.
03:48And you can apply the styling product and then you can just twist it around that flexi rod and leave it in for about 20, 30 minutes.
03:55And then take it out and then see how that works.
03:58Um, Grace, I think the camera moved.
04:02Oh, God.
04:03Um, so yeah, definitely try a finger coiling or a flexi rod, or even if your hair is just not having it for that day because girl, there are days where our hair just does not want to cooperate.
04:16Um, you can even try like twisting it all in one side and going into a ponytail or a bun, something, something quick and easy.
04:23So definitely try that and let us know how that works for you.
04:25Okay, so our next question is about clarifying, clarifying, uh, clarifying shampoo and different techniques.
04:36So clarifying ruined my wave pattern.
04:38What did I do wrong?
04:39Over the last month, it has, it has alternated between 2B and 2C patterns.
04:45And today, as well as the day before, it just won't hold a wave at all.
04:50It got really frizzy with a slight wave and felt completely straight after some time.
04:54I just haven't had the money to buy a good deep conditioner yet, but I don't think that should make my hair from stop keeping a wave pattern suddenly after clarifying.
05:03Am I missing something?
05:05So there is a great article on naturallycurly.com about five mistakes that curlies make, and one of them is clarifying.
05:13So definitely stop clarifying your hair.
05:17And if you, like, stop clarifying it, um, like repeatedly, I mean to say.
05:22Okay, so if you, if you just have to clarify your hair, it's suggested for wavies that you clarify, like, every three weeks.
05:29But in between time, you're co-washing and you're using a low poo or even no poo.
05:32Um, so I would definitely say start there, um, and also try a deep conditioner, um, that works for you.
05:40And I know one of them, let me see.
05:43I know there is a great deep conditioner from Curl Junkie that pretty much, uh, Curly's just rave about.
05:50So really try that one.
05:51I can link that for you too, so you can get those product details.
05:54Um, and then if you're having, like, a lot of, if you're experiencing a lot of buildup, you can try the Deepa Curl Buildup Buster, um, Deepa Curl Low Poo, or even Trader Joe's All Nourish Shampoo.
06:08It's also a great cleanser without leaving your hair stripped.
06:11So definitely try those and let us know how that works for you.
06:14And if y'all have any other questions about your curls, ways, or kinks, please comment below and we'll answer them right now for you.
06:23Someone asked, hi, my hair is naturally wavy.
06:26I sweat a lot.
06:27How can I keep my edges straight along with the rest of my hair?
06:32Um, I think that kind of goes back to, um, what I was just talking about too.
06:37So if you're, if, if you're experiencing that, you can try using the Flexi Raw.
06:43You can try finger coiling using the gel or a mousse, or if it's just not cooperating, like I said, you can just twist it up into a bun.
06:49Grace, do you have any recommendations that you would do?
06:55For my, uh, keep my edges straight?
06:57I mean, I just use the sweat to slick them, slick them down, you know?
07:01Yeah, yeah.
07:02Just slick them down, like, and, like, like, put it under your ear.
07:05Yeah.
07:06Or use a little gel.
07:07Yeah.
07:08I think gel is probably the best, like, humidity, sweat-proof product.
07:11Yeah, yes, definitely.
07:13And I think also too, I think sometimes it's like listening to our hair.
07:17Like, if our hair just wants to be, like, slicked down today, well, girl, that's what we're gonna do.
07:21Like, like, you can't really just fight it, especially, like, sweat and humidity.
07:25Like, those are two, two big factors that you really can't go against.
07:29So now you just gotta give up.
07:31Yeah.
07:32So, yeah, definitely try using a gel.
07:34I know, um, wavies love that Wee Dad Climate Control gel.
07:39Um, there's a Bounce LeMay gel that they also love.
07:42So definitely try finding a gel that really, really works for you.
07:46And like I said, try finger curl it.
07:48Try, um, a flexi rod.
07:50Or just try even twisting it and pinning it up and keep it moving.
07:53Um, so let's see.
07:58Oh, yeah.
07:59Our next question is, I'm a wavy newbie.
08:01I'm a wavy, and I have, I'm sorry, I'm a wavy newbie and I have no idea what to do with my hair or how to style it.
08:08I love to get more info, um, on to styling my waves and how I can keep it from looking way down and stringy.
08:15Um, so definitely, um, I know it can be really, really overwhelming because now there are so many products.
08:24So wavies, you know, they definitely have a different, um, process versus like our curlies.
08:33So I think, um, you first want to start with cutting back on how many products you're using.
08:38So you might not need a leave-in, a primer, a mousse, a gel, like a finishing oil.
08:43So you might not need all those products.
08:46So really, um, start back with, start with just cutting back on the, on your product usage.
08:51And also just really being aware of the ingredients and all the products.
08:55Um, I even noticed like when I first started working here and becoming really aware of, um, the ingredients and the products that I was using is a lot of them had a lot of heavy butters and oils in them and it was weighing my curly hair down.
09:08Um, so I think you can really just start there by cutting back on the products that you're using in your daily routine and then once you're doing that, then slowly starting back with one or two products and then trying to figure out what is really the core of, um, of your issue.
09:23And like what product is really making your hair really stringy and weight down and then just cut that out and find what works for you.
09:30So find that gel or that mousse, but you might not leave, but you might not necessarily need a leave-in, a mousse, a gel, like you might not need all those things in your hair.
09:39Um, and you know, really, and really trying out those different methods such as like the squish and condish, um, you know, the praying hand methods.
09:49It's the where you're actually like scrunching your hair to really give your waves definition.
09:54So definitely try that out.
09:56I love squish to condish.
09:57Yeah.
09:58Especially if you have low porosity hair, it's a really good way to condition your hair.
10:02Yes.
10:05Okay.
10:05Do y'all have any other questions that y'all want to ask?
10:09You're itching to ask?
10:10Feel free to comment below and I'll be sure to answer them.
10:14It doesn't have to be wavy centered.
10:16It can totally be for curlies, wavies, or type four girls, protective styles.
10:22Feel free to comment below and we'll answer them.
10:25So our next question is, she just needs some pep talk y'all.
10:28And I really feel like you can hop on Instagram and everybody has these amazing curls and so much volume and like so much definition.
10:37And you're just like, girl, but I'm not, I'm not experiencing that yet.
10:40And that's okay.
10:41Like that is very real.
10:43You're being honest with yourself.
10:44But sometimes you do this need like that motivation and pep talk.
10:47So definitely help us out on this one.
10:50If you also want to drop some motivation in the comments, feel free to do so below.
10:54Here's what she says.
10:55I have gone natural for two years.
10:57The first year I took pics only when I had to because I hated seeing myself without fake straight hair and felt so ugly.
11:04I hated not having the same straight hair I did when I was a little girl.
11:08I am seriously ready to just be blissfully fake again, but none, but one of my core values is to be real.
11:15I feel so, I am sorry.
11:18I see so many curly girls who not only tolerate their curls, but are actually proud of them.
11:23Why and how?
11:25So, I feel like it's really just about you and where you're at in yourself and your, like your personal journey and your self-love journey.
11:38And really do what feels good for you.
11:40If you want to wear your dress straight and you want to wear it wavy or whatever it is, like do that.
11:44But whenever you're ready, definitely be ready to embrace all of the parts of you.
11:48And for me personally, I actually big-topped three years ago and I was doing it because I wanted to free myself of expectations and pressure from other people that they would put on me on how they wanted me to look a certain type of way.
12:04So, do it for yourself though, but do it, you know, because you want to see that growth and that progress within yourself.
12:10And it's okay to have bad hair days.
12:13Like, you don't have to, you won't be perfect every single day.
12:17Your hair will not be perfect every single day, but just truly find what makes you happy and what hairstyles work for you and what products work for you.
12:26So, if y'all have any other encouraging words or words of motivation, feel free to comment below because we definitely want to encourage curly girls to live their best lives every single day.
12:36And if y'all have any other questions, feel free to comment below and I'll answer them.
12:39We have one, we have two.
12:41One, a lot of edge gels start out good for me, then they break me out.
12:46Help.
12:47Um, so I would, um, I would really try to see, really try to evaluate what is in that product.
12:58Um, I was, I was experiencing a lot of breakouts when I first started working here and we had to try and review all these products.
13:05I was like, my hair was on product overload.
13:08And, um, for me, I was using, like, different stylers and it was dripping on down my face and, like, to my hairline.
13:14I kept breaking out right here.
13:16Um, so I would definitely say, really try to research those ingredients and see that maybe you're allergic to something.
13:22And also just switch it up.
13:24So, finding new products, um, so edge controls and gels that work for my edges, I like to use, um, it's like a, it's a paste for my edges.
13:38And then the other one that I would like is the, um, Ampro Argan Oil Gel.
13:43So, definitely those are my recommendations, but also just really evaluate the ingredients in your products if they're breaking you out to really get to the core of that.
13:50So, okay, hi, I'm new to this high humid area.
13:56I'm having to wash about every day and I use a cleansing cream shampoo.
14:00Do you think this could be cleansing my hair too much?
14:05Would a low poo be better?
14:07Yeah, so I don't know too many curlies that wash their hair every day.
14:12So, I would say right there, um, maybe just try switching it up.
14:17Maybe try co-washing, maybe try using that low poo or that no poo, um, and maybe just trying, maybe try washing every two to three days and just see how your hair reacts.
14:26And then I'm also in humid weathers, girl, so I totally feel you.
14:31Right now, we could easily hit like 110 today in Texas and it's extremely humid.
14:35So, I like to use mousses and gels in the summer because it makes, it like makes such a difference.
14:42Um, so yeah, definitely try that and then see how that works for you.
14:46And I can also share some of my favorite gels and mousses in the comments if that helps too.
14:52All right, we have another one.
14:53Hi, I have naturally curly hair, but why do I need to use a leave-in conditioner?
14:58Also, why do I need to wet it every day?
15:00I use a plastic bag to sleep in.
15:02What else can I sleep in?
15:05So, okay, so that's, that's a lot of different things.
15:08So, the first thing, um.
15:11Why do I need to use a leave-in conditioner?
15:13Okay, so most people, it's really just about getting that moisture back into your hair.
15:19Or, and it also helps for me too, I like to use a leave-in slash detangler because for me, it helps detangle my hair.
15:27When I first wake up, y'all, I have straight bedhead hair because I don't sleep with anything on my hair because it always comes off.
15:34So, I don't use a bag or anything, but, um, really the leave-in is getting that moisture back into your hair from overnight.
15:42So, you can try that, and like I said, it helps detangle your hair before you style it.
15:46Um, and then sleeping with your hair, sleeping with curls overnight, you, if you don't want to sleep with a bag, you can try a satin bonnet, a scarf, or even satin or silk, uh, pillowcases.
16:00So, definitely try those and see how that works for you.
16:03It was one more thing she asked.
16:04Um, why do I need to wet it every day?
16:07So, wetting it, the same thing with, um, moisture in a sense, just kind of just rehydrating it each morning.
16:14Um, and for me, by me, like, uh, refreshing it with water, it just helps detangle my hair and just, like, refreshes that styling product that I had in there, that I had in there the day before, so I don't have to constantly keep adding styling products, which can lead to buildup.
16:29So, yeah, definitely try that if you're, if you're not already.
16:34Y'all don't have any more questions.
16:36Cool.
16:38Well, if y'all do not know already, Naturally Curly is celebrating 20 years, y'all.
