00:00hey naturally curly world happy Monday I'm Alexandra and today we are doing
00:04our Facebook Q&A live so you already know if you have any questions feel free
00:10to comment below and we'll answer them for you right here right now so today we
00:16are going to be talking about sleeping with curls how to protect your curls how
00:20to refresh your curls the next day I know most of you already know about like
00:25pineappling and sleeping with a satin bonnet and the satin pillowcase but we
00:29just wanted to reiterate a few tips to help you really protect your curls at
00:34night so that I'm styling you here the next day is a lot less stressful for the
00:38curlies on the go so I'm gonna let a few of y'all join in before we get started but
00:45just so you know the theme of today we are focusing on protecting your curls
00:49while sleeping
00:59so as most of you already know I think like the universal curly girl method most
01:08curly girls like to sleep with their hair in a high bun high ponytail or a pineapple
01:13but if you're like me and your hair is like in between stages you're growing it out you
01:20might not have hair long enough to pineapple you can also just do multiple pineapples so
01:26like me I would pull my hair up right here and then leave this out and then I would
01:31just tie it up into a satin scarf or bonnet or if your bonnet is always coming off you
01:38can just simply sleep with a satin pillowcase and then another option if you don't like having
01:47your hair tied up or pulled up because that's like too tight on your head you can also just
01:51try the two this two strand twist method which is really just twisting your hair really just
01:58getting definition so when you wake up the next morning your hair is already defined all
02:02I have to do is fluff it and go you can even try mini braids or just doing regular corn rolls that
02:12way you can wake up and have a really poppin braid out and let's see the next one I've already talked
02:25about the satin bonnet the pillowcase the twist the braids and the high pony and then the multiple
02:33pineapples so I think we've covered pretty much all the ways for protecting your curls at night now we
02:39can transition more into how to really refresh your curls the next day and I brought a few of
02:43my favorite curl refreshers so me personally I just do I just pull this hair up when I'm sleeping
02:51at night and I sleep on a satin pillowcase I'm pretty low maintenance and don't have time for the
02:58bonnet and the scarf because it always comes off but in the morning I do refresh with just simply a
03:05water bottle I know other curlies they like to put their favorite leave in mix in with their water
03:10bottle so you can totally try that too but my other favorite curl refresh that I love is by flora and
03:17curl and it's the jasmine oasis floral hydration hair mist and this is really like if you're out in the
03:27sun you've been out like on a busy day you can just keep this with you in your bag and why I like it
03:35a lot it smells really good because it has rose alloy and jasmine so all these different oils and
03:42it's perfect for like just being out and about and having that little curl refresher with you
03:47another one that I like is the weedad botanical boost and it's curl energizing and refreshing spray
03:56this is also another good one and then one of my favorite detanglers because sometimes you do wake
04:02up with knots and your hair is looking a little a little crazy and this is one of my favorites
04:08Oyen oh my glide detangler it is everything it really helps detangle your hair has a lot of slip in it
04:16so that's really much that's really how I refresh I don't like to put too much product in it because
04:23usually I've already styled my hair with a lot of products before like gel and mousse the day before
04:29so instead of adding more products and making my hair sticky and and more it would just add more
04:35product it could possibly weigh it down so I just refresh with water so I'm interested to know how
04:41do y'all refresh and how do you sleep with your curls if y'all have any questions you can feel free
04:46to comment below and I'll answer that for you right here and right now someone asked what is the best way to
04:53moisturize hair when you have a big chop at night so can you tell me can you tell me a little bit
05:01about your hair like the porosity and your hair type but I know a lot of people just even think about
05:12that question I know a lot of people go to sleep like deep with deep conditioning like a treatment in
05:17their hair to really get moisturized so I can share with you a few of the conditioners that I like and I
05:24can also link them in the comment below so that you can check them out
05:28she said she's type four and has low porosity okay
05:56I already know shea moisture has like one of the best deep conditioners for type four
06:05I want to say like restore with strength restore and strengthen but I just want to find it for you
06:13because I can't think of the exact name of it but yeah basically I would just recommend that you you can
06:21wash your hair and then before you go to sleep you can use that you can use that deep conditioner
06:26treatment on your hair and let it soak in your hair while you're asleep and then rinse it out in the
06:30morning and I'm and when I said the shea moisture mask it is called the shea moisture strengthen and
06:41restore treatment excuse me treatment mask that is like top that is like the top deep conditioner for
06:49type fours from all of our community they love love love that product so I would definitely try
06:53that another good moisture a moisturizer for type fours is the Obia Naturals it's a coral moisture
07:02coral coral coral moisture cream so yeah I think those are two great options that you can try and I can
07:10also link those in the comments so that you can check it out oh another one needs to have one more the
07:18Camille Rose Naturals they she also has a deep conditioner that is another great option so also I
07:25would really just say you can start deep conditioning every other week and then you can also just start
07:31implementing more moisturizers in your daily routine as well any other questions all right now okay
07:42So yeah each week y'all we want to have a theme because we know these questions can get like super sporadic so this
07:51so today's theme is really about caring for your curls overnight and some tips for refreshing so if y'all have any
07:58questions about that feel free to comment below or comment anything else that you may have and we'll be sure to answer that for you
08:05okay we actually have some questions too
08:31someone just did hard eyes at you hey girl so I have a question I have to sleep with my hair down
08:41or with a gazillion clips since it isn't long enough to pineapple I highly doubt I could keep
08:46a bonnet on my head overnight I'm a violent sleeper so my options come down to one sleep
08:52with crunch sleep with crunch scrunched out sleep with lots of clip-ins sleep with crunch
09:01can I sleep with a gel cast on my head hmm so that's a lot going on so I would definitely say
09:12I have tried sleeping with with the clip in my hair just like one clip in the middle in the
09:16middle of my head and that even hurts so I definitely wouldn't recommend sleeping with
09:20clips in your head because I feel like that would be quite painful um so I would try if if the clips
09:29that's a no-go um and your bonnet or your scarf is coming off then I would really just really just
09:35try a satin pillowcase I feel like that's really like that's just your last resort um wait I'm sorry
09:42the internet oh I think it's back now okay um so yeah I would definitely just go toward just sleeping
09:52with a just sleeping with a satin pillowcase just that you know like your hair is still protected
09:56and you're not getting too much for too much friction um but so you have to worry about you know having
10:01your clip poking in your head and your scarf coming off so I would definitely try that someone asked
10:07how do I keep my hair moisturized overnight I often notice I have a lot of moisture in the daytime but
10:13it disappears once I hit the pillow I use a scarf to sleep um so can you tell me a little bit about
10:19your hair type um first I would first recommend to um if you're not already to start implementing a
10:26scalp care regimen so me I just started I'm using oh I just started recently um like oiling my scalp
10:34with all I need naturally and I do that after each wash but I also do it daily and before I go to sleep
10:38I've noticed a huge difference by that um so maybe if you try oiling your scalp and then applying um
10:47then applying like a light layer of moisturizer on your hair and then apply your bonnet that might
10:53help you as well she looks like a tape for it from her profile picture okay so I just shared some type
11:00four products I can definitely repeat a few um so you can try deep conditioning more often or you can
11:08even try going to sleep with a deep conditioner mask in your hair um so you can try um the one that I
11:16listed earlier was the shea moisture uh jamaican black castor oil strength and grow and restore treatment
11:22mask that is like a holy girl for uh for type fours another good one is the camille rose natural um algae
11:30deep conditioner she said she's stuck between a 3c and 4a my extreme kitchen is more 4b medium density
11:39medium thickness bra strap length okay she might also need a haircut if she doesn't have a haircut
11:45yeah yeah so you can um so depending on your last trim you can definitely um really just see about
11:52getting the trim and see if that makes a difference too um you know most we're advised as curlies to
11:58get a trim about every three to six months depending on your preference um but that could also be a huge
12:05help for you um but I think too is really just about um just paying more attention to your hair and just
12:11seeing what is your hair really needing so like I like I mentioned earlier maybe just start with try
12:16oiling your scalp before you go to sleep applying a thin level applying a thin layer of a moisturizer
12:22um and then deconditioning more often so every other week or even going to sleep with it with a
12:27deconditioner in your hair
12:32someone asked I'm a 3c and 4a what products would be best I asked what kind of products she's looking
12:37for specifically but she hasn't answered yet okay um I'm a 3c um and I prefer to use mousses and gels
12:49and some creams um I've learned that the heavier creams like things that are things that have like
12:57shea butter um they really they really weigh my hair down um so I one of my favorite gels is the
13:04Camille Rose Naturals uh curl maker and that is actually a favorite for threes and fours so you
13:10can possibly start there um and then also try out a mousse I know mousses and gels they kind of have
13:14this bad rap for making your hair like really flaky and crunchy um but the ingredients a lot of the
13:21brands have really like set up their game with the ingredients and making it more moisturizing
13:25and not leaving your hair really dry so I would definitely try a mousse that I love which is the
13:30design essentials almond avocado mousse um and then let's see shampoo conditioner I also love design
13:38essentials like this is not sponsored um so design essentials also like pretty much their whole almond
13:44almond avocado line is great um so they're almond avocado shampoo conditioner they're mousse the gel
13:50is the Camille Rose Curl Maker um a good moisturizer is um is the Odea Naturals she
14:00has really good curl cream so those are just a few and I can also link those for you so you can check them out
14:07someone asked I'm between a 3a and 3b but have thin hair how do you even refresh that what products
14:13are good so definitely you definitely want to use something lightweight and I even thought it was dry
14:23shampoo what are you doing Grace well for me like I have thin-ish hair like the strands are thin I have
14:31medium density but um I usually refresh with water yeah if I don't want to use something wet then yeah
14:38dry shampoo or some kind of hair powder yeah so um like I said earlier a lot of people like to refresh
14:44and like add their favorite leaf in um but for me personally I just use water and that works perfect
14:50for me um so definitely refreshing with water um and if that doesn't help maybe like the next day or
14:56next few days just try some different techniques such as dry shampoo um and then get you a big girl like
15:01just start fluffing and see how that helps or I've also seen um wavies and curlies use like the clip method
15:07where they clip their roots just to add more volume at the roots I know that's probably um a pretty a
15:14big issue for the girls with the looser curls um someone said hi I'm French every time I go to the
15:21beach my hair is always very dry and brittle what can I use to keep it nice yes so that has been like
15:29a hot topic for the summer um and I've been doing a lot of research behind it and it's actually really
15:34interesting so you definitely want to do a prep before and then a prep after um so before you go
15:42to the beach or the pool wherever you're going outside um to be around water it's really important
15:47that you that that you detangle your hair before you go so detangle and then add a leave-in conditioner
15:54or an oil whether it's coconut oil um just use some type of oil that is um really good at coating
16:03your hair protecting your hair um so definitely detangle and then add coat your hair in oil
16:10you can either put your hair in a bun braid it in just two french braids um twist whatever it is
16:17but definitely style your hair before because recently I went to the beach and I wear my hair like this
16:23and by the time I got back home my hair was so knotted and dry and just like the whole frizz disaster
16:29um so definitely style your hair before put it high in a bun ponytail twist or braids throw a hat on
16:36whatever you want to do just basically just make sure that you detangle and add some oil and style
16:42before and then afterwards definitely do a deep conditioning treatment um so those are the top tips
16:48for really protecting your hair while you're out in the sun and going to the beach you're full
16:58anything else one more oh there's one it's pretty big three c slash four a slash low porosity thick
17:07very curly hair tips yes so I I feel like it's a lot of three c's and four a's out there today
17:15so what I'm going to do because I just shared a few products I'm going to just link them in the
17:18comments below so that y'all can see them um and I'll also share some my some my favorites as well
