00:00That's like hangover city. Put your blazer on. Put your blazer on. You get
00:04excited to go to Home Depot on the weekend. You're like girl I'm hanging these cartons.
00:08Hey Naturally Curly World, I'm Nikki and I'm Grace and in celebration of Naturally
00:16Curly's 20th anniversary we're going to tell you the 20 things we learned in our 20s.
00:22A lot of hard lessons let me tell you. One thing we learned in our 20s is how to pay
00:29rent on time. Yeah rent's like not a priority. Until it is. The first and then you're like
00:36I'm saying what? Yeah. You have to have guts, have grit, and keep pushing. Keep believing
00:42in yourself. Keep going. Persevere no matter what the circumstances. If you're going for
00:46your goal, don't give up. Just keep going. Thank you for coming to my TikTok. Another
00:52thing I learned in my 20s is quality over quantity. I'd way rather have you know a few good friends
00:59than a bunch of friends who don't give any cares about me. A bunch of raggedy, no good.
01:05You start buying, you know, one shirt a month from Madewell, you know. Yes. Because it's
01:11Madewell. And even though you might be in your 20s, you won't forever be 21. The more
01:17you know. Sometimes happiness over a paycheck. But if you got a little cash in your account,
01:23and you have to deal with people's bull crap all day, and you're not happy, it's time to
01:27quit. Another thing you learn is to know your worth. Raise your hourly rates. Raise your day
01:33rate. Charge people. Put some respect on my check. You know what I'm saying? Give me my
01:38check. Put some respect on my check. So another thing you learn is to stop taking people's
01:43crap. I think one area where this really applies is if you're single in your 20s. Men, you know,
01:48they trying to be slammed in your DMs and taking you out on dates. I mean, I like a nice Applebee's
01:54date, but like... You're not going to take no Applebee's food. Can we not? Like, save that
01:58for like the fifth date. Can we, can we go somewhere like local and cute? This is not a hot take.
02:04For you youngsters out there, yes, you. Y'all need to sleep. Get you some rest, girl. Just sleep.
02:11You look tired. I think when you become a salaried employee, that's when your hangovers
02:16start going downhill. You know what I'm saying? Like, it's like a direct correlation.
02:20But you put that money towards some better, more quality alcohols.
02:25Ma'am, sir, whoever is watching this, never order the house bourbon.
02:32I am learning, even now, but I definitely learned in my 20s, how to save my money and
02:37invest in a financial planner. You cannot just be putting all these cute Instagram looks
02:42on your credit card and racking up debt. Your credit score is going to drop.
02:46And when you want to buy a home, your interest rate's going to be like 50%, man.
02:5150%?
02:52Do you want that?
02:53Another thing I learned in my 20s was how to ask for a raise. I don't know.
02:57We're taught to be like docile and timid.
03:00Oh, I know.
03:01But what can you give me?
03:02Money's a tough subject.
03:03Thank you so much for paying me.
03:05I don't have the crumbs.
03:06No, no!
03:07No!
03:08Open your mouth and say, give me my money.
03:11Give me my check.
03:12Put some respect on my check.
03:14Make your PowerPoint.
03:15Present it to your boss.
03:16Ask for the raise.
03:18The worst thing they can do is say no, and then you're back where you started.
03:22Yeah.
03:23And then when you put in your two weeks, okay?
03:25Something I'm learning in my 20s is how to handle conflict.
03:29You have to learn how to deal with people who sometimes are not on the same page as you.
03:34They're total idiots.
03:35Yeah.
03:36You know, just idiots.
03:37Dumb.
03:38Rude.
03:39Ill-informed.
03:40Yeah.
03:41Another thing I learned in my 20s, which were not too long ago.
03:47You gotta hustle.
03:48Always learning.
03:49Always picking up new skills and seeing what you're interested in and what you could be
03:53interested in and how you can possibly build a career or make a living from that.
03:58I really learned how to do my makeup.
04:01And I learned in the last few years how to do that natural makeup.
04:07So it's like that no makeup makeup look.
04:10You little hustler.
04:11You don't need nobody.
04:12Been here by myself, me, myself, and I.
04:15You're wrong, okay?
04:16What I learned in my 20s is how to appreciate my family.
04:20Because without them, I wouldn't be the person I am, honestly.
04:24Relationships are worth more than gold.
04:26You learned that self-care isn't just, oh, let me take a bath.
04:30It's really introspective.
04:32Yeah.
04:33Making sure you're good within you so you can be the best you can be.
04:37I can't afford to go to the spa every weekend.
04:39Yeah.
04:40All I have to do is buy me a Lush bath bomb.
04:42Cut off a little piece of that.
04:43Drop it in.
04:44A little fizzle.
04:45Not a big fizzle.
04:46Because it's expensive.
04:47The best self-care I ever did was a few weeks ago.
04:50I deleted all of my social media apps for a whole weekend.
04:53Yes.
04:54I felt so replenished after that weekend.
04:57Y'all should try it.
04:58Not saying that you shouldn't be local, you shouldn't be, you know, active in your community.
05:02But sometimes it just takes some time.
05:04You just need to laugh at like cat videos or like turn the internet off completely.
05:08I totaled my car when I was like 22.
05:11So I learned how to buy a car.
05:14I learned how to negotiate my car price down.
05:17I learned how to get car insurance.
05:19I learned how to upkeep my car.
05:21I learned how to call AAA when my car died last week.
05:25Buy your car at the end of the month because that's when they're trying to get their numbers.
05:28Amen.
05:29So you go the week before the end of the month.
05:31You go in on that Saturday.
05:33You go in, you say, I want this car.
05:35They're like, oh, well, it's this price.
05:36And you go, well, I want it $3,000 less than that.
05:39And they're like, oh, we can't do that.
05:40And you're like, okay, bye.
05:41You know what they'll do?
05:42They'll call you on Monday.
05:43Okay, we can do that.
05:44And then you have a car.
05:45I really learned like my signature drink because you're not in your late teens, early twenties,
05:52drinking whatever is handed to you anymore.
05:54Amorettos, sours.
05:55Cherry vodka, sours.
05:56Sours, sours, sours.
05:57Yeah.
05:58It's not like a vehicle to get you to Z.
06:02Honestly, you don't want to get to Z because then you spend the next two days in pain.
06:07I need to have a productive Sunday.
06:09I have a Home Depot run scheduled.
06:11So I can't be doing all of that.
06:14Taking a solo trip in your twenties is really cool too.
06:16You really get to figure out how you navigate the world.
06:19And you learn actually just how to travel like a grownup.
06:22You know, you book a flight and whereas before, you know, when you were younger, you'd show
06:26up in like, you know, your night clothes because you're just getting on the plane.
06:30Who cares?
06:31And your mom booked your flight.
06:32And your mom booked your flight.
06:33And you look lost.
06:34And do you check a bag?
06:35You don't know.
06:36You just look dumb in the airport.
06:38In your twenties, you can't look dumb in the airport.
06:39No.
06:40Because anything could be a business opportunity.
06:42Look cute in the airport.
06:43You never know who you might meet there.
06:45Another thing that you learn in your twenties is the importance of eating right.
06:48Some of you may already have been there.
06:50You may have just been like one of those people who stayed healthy all through college.
06:53That's sick.
06:54Mid to late twenties, you need to eat salads.
06:56Yeah.
06:57You need to eat kale.
06:58You need to eat better.
06:59You need to cook your own food.
07:01I'm not going to tell you only eat kale.
07:02I'm just saying figure out what's important to you as far as health and eat appropriately.
07:07Chop up some mushrooms and some onions.
07:10Girl, you make a stir fry.
07:11Yeah, make a stir fry.
07:13Migos said it best.
07:14You know what I mean?
07:15They're actually talking about vegetables.
07:16Don't say I never tell you that.
07:18So those are the 20 things we learned in our twenties.
07:22Some of us are still in our twenties.
07:23Some of us are just freshly out.
07:25Just freshly out of the twenties.
