00:00Hey, I'm Devery. I'm Virginia, and I'm Christina, and today we are bringing our dads into the Naturally Curly office to do our hair.
00:08Yikes.
00:10When I was asked if I want to participate in this video, I was a little hesitant,
00:15but I asked my dad and he seemed to be totally game, which is very much
00:20representative of who my dad is. Oh, I didn't know I was supposed to do anything to her hair. I thought it looked good, but no.
00:25So I'm gonna do some twists for hair.
00:28I've chosen a really kind of complicated Pinterest hairstyle. The blondes at the impossible
00:36like
00:37interwoven braids. As far as
00:40fixing it, arranging it, styling it, I'm not your guy.
00:45That's because I have no sense of style. My dad's really chill. Pretty much me without lipstick.
00:51So yeah. I'm here today to spend some time with my daughter doing her hair.
00:56Something I haven't done since he was a young girl.
00:58He asked if he was, if this video was going to make his hair curly, and
01:03if he needed hair to be in the video.
01:06Christina's hair is great. I wish I had hair like that. I wish I had hair.
01:11It's nice and curly. I like the fact that it's natural. I like the fact that it doesn't have a lot of chemicals on it.
01:17I think she looks cool with it.
01:19I do have some thoughts in mind that I'd like to try. They'll be simple.
01:23And my dad would do this really weird thing where he felt like the best angle to do my hair was if I was lying flat.
01:31So he would like lay me on the bed and then like start doing a twist on one side and another side and then this weird one in the back.
01:39It's been a few years since I last did her hair. Generally, three braids and barrettes.
01:44When my dad would dry my hair, he would do that thing with the towel that was like this, like a dog.
01:50It'll be a shame what it looks like after I'm done with it today.
01:53We might be just too, too dear in a headlight. Look, as long as we just work together, then it shouldn't be too bad. We'll see.
02:02We'll see.
02:03Are you ready for this?
02:04As ready as I'll ever be.
02:05It's been quite a while.
02:06It's been quite a while.
02:07This is so awkward.
02:09Oh no.
02:11Okay.
02:12So my dad and I are going to do a ninja bun today.
02:17Remember how you used to do the twists?
02:19Yep.
02:20You did three.
02:21Now you're going to multiply that by like ten.
02:23Right.
02:24Okay.
02:25Now take a little smaller section from...
02:28There's none left.
02:29Okay.
02:30Wow.
02:31All right.
02:32I don't think I started out well, so...
02:34Okay.
02:35So let me try to weed through some of this.
02:38If you need to use water...
02:41Some Pearl Keeper H2O often.
02:44Sounds good.
02:45This is exactly what I need right now.
02:47That's avocado oil.
02:48Okay.
02:49She likes avocado oil.
02:50That's enough oil.
02:51She pushes it.
02:52That's a lot.
02:53Ready?
02:54And then at the end, she just goes twist, twist, twist.
02:55And you got to hold on to it with something.
02:57Yeah.
02:58We've got some stuff here.
02:59I don't know if that was the right idea.
03:00It's okay.
03:01Well, you know what?
03:02That's three strands.
03:03I'm brilliant.
03:04I didn't want to do that.
03:05Can you count?
03:06They teach you that in law school?
03:07I just reverted back.
03:08Pull it over.
03:09No, no, no.
03:10Under.
03:11Under.
03:12You're always going to twist like this.
03:14Do you say that again now?
03:15So what I'm doing, I'm grabbing a...
03:16I started to say a clump of hair, but she wouldn't like me to say that.
03:17I begin twisting.
03:18Just one over the other.
03:19Over.
03:20And then some from here, under.
03:21See, it's easy.
03:22Yeah, but you don't know what it looks like.
03:23Yeah.
03:24You don't know what it looks like.
03:25This would be good for, like, my brother.
03:26I don't know what it looks like.
03:27This would be good for, like, my brother.
03:28I'm always going to twist like this.
03:29Do you say that again now?
03:30So what I'm doing, I'm grabbing a...
03:34I started to say a clump of hair, but she wouldn't like me to say that.
03:37I begin twisting.
03:38Just one over the other.
03:42Over.
03:43And then some from here.
03:46Under.
03:47Under.
03:48See, it's easy.
03:49Yeah, but you don't know what it looks like.
03:52This would be good for, like, my baby hairs in the front.
03:57You know what baby hairs are, right?
03:59Yeah.
04:00You were a baby?
04:01Well, I mean, I'm not a baby, and that's the end.
04:04I'm talking about right here.
04:06Oh, you're doing a good job.
04:07Mine is the...
04:09I'd like to see better execution.
04:11I'm not going to lie.
04:12Okay.
04:13Sometimes, like, once you get to the end, you just either, like, lose focus or...
04:19Tell me if it hurts.
04:20It doesn't hurt.
04:22It's kind of painful for me.
04:25What if we can't get the rubber band off at the end?
04:28Ow.
04:29Yeah, sorry about that.
04:31Was it difficult for you?
04:32You did mine and Dee Dee's hair.
04:34We might need help with this.
04:36Uh, yes.
04:37Actually, I did.
04:38I have two daughters.
04:39This might be the best twist yet.
04:41Ooh, we got a good one back there?
04:43Yeah.
04:44A good-looking twist.
04:45Let's just take a second to honor this.
04:50Hmm, I can't get it out.
04:51I've got to start over.
04:52No, no.
04:53Don't start over.
04:54Maybe the four other dads that are doing this today.
04:57Well, the other dads I don't think are doing as complicated of their style.
05:02Oh!
05:03So you gave me the most complicated one.
05:05Yeah.
05:06Right?
05:07And, uh, yes.
05:11Give me a facelift.
05:12I do notice that the clumps of hair, as you so eloquently put it last time, have gotten
05:19larger.
05:20I don't know why that might be.
05:21Or is it because you are getting tired?
05:24You just don't want to admit it?
05:25So you thought you could just...
05:26How much more there is to do.
05:27Exactly.
05:28So if it was a more complicated braid, like a fishtail that takes more than just two
05:33hands, my mom would call in my dad to help.
05:36Yeah.
05:37But he would just, like, hold a section.
05:40Do you remember that?
05:41I'm better at just holding, yeah.
05:42So we got your band set up here.
05:45We're going to work on the back and fluff it up and get it a little moisturized.
05:49All right.
05:50Okay.
05:51Chilt your head a little bit and show my handiwork here.
05:54But basically, now that we're done with this, we would just take it all out.
05:58So we'll just take the end and we just start to unravel.
06:03Nail it in place.
06:04No!
06:05Is that it now?
06:07It was a bobby pin!
06:09Okay.
06:10There.
06:11There.
06:12You did that faster than she did it.
06:14Oh yeah.
06:15I'm better than she is.
06:16Okay.
06:17Do you want a straight part or...?
06:18I mean, preferably.
06:19Okay.
06:20There you go.
06:21And then I'm going to hand you a bobby pin and that's how we're going to secure it.
06:23Don't work with bobby pins.
06:26I just hold it in one place.
06:28There you go.
06:29There you go.
06:31And I will twist it like this.
06:32It's a little off-center, but whatever.
06:33It's all good.
06:34Well, I did accomplish one thing and I got her lines straight.
06:37And that's a big plus for me.
06:38Yeah.
06:39Thank you for that.
06:40That means a lot to me to have...
06:42Because when I'm doing my own hair, I can't see if it's a straight line.
06:45So that's more than what I could do.
06:47I would recommend everybody have boys.
06:49You can't see that!
06:50Oh, but girls are nice too.
06:53It's sort of so all curly that it's kind of naturally all twisted together.
07:00That's not bad.
07:02Okay.
07:03So then we're going to pull it over.
07:05And there's a few strands that, you know, like I said, aren't as curly as we might have liked.
07:10We're just going to tuck those.
07:11But that's in part, supposedly.
07:12About time.
07:13Yeah.
07:14I don't think that was...
07:15It wasn't technique.
07:16Your technique was close to being flawless.
07:18It feels good.
07:19How does it look?
07:20Looks good to me.
07:21Be honest.
07:22It looks good?
07:23It does.
07:24It looks actually really good.
07:26Ninja bun.
07:27Is it finished?
07:28Um...
07:29Yeah, it looks great.
07:31It might kind of look like I didn't do anything, but...
07:36I think you did a great job.
07:37Thanks.
07:38Proud of you.
07:39I had a great coach.
07:40Thanks.
07:41It took a little bit out of me.
07:44It was fun.
07:45Despite what you may have seen on film, that was pretty difficult for me.
07:48I came in here with low expectations and exceeded those.
07:52Thank God I'm not tender-headed because that would have hurt.
07:56So, this is my finished look.
07:59I'm actually really happy with it.
08:02Dad really helped me, like, get some length going.
08:05You know, I feel like it was really stretched.
08:07He gave me these two slightly lopsided but otherwise really cool twist around.
08:14Yeah, the style, that is what I would call a double crossover fishtail.
08:20Because it looks like two tails of fish, one poked through the other.
08:25And then the whole thing kind of gets shredded at the bottom when you're all done.
08:29And I think it looks relatively nice.
08:32Not as nice, I'm sure, as if she had done it by herself.
08:35But...
08:36Not bad for the B team.
08:38Overall, I mean, Dad's hard.
08:40I think he did alright.
08:42Given the fact that it was, I don't know, like, over 20 years since he's done my hair, so...
08:47I wouldn't want to do it again unless absolutely necessary.
08:51But I did prove to myself that it's still possible to do that.
08:55I probably won't be doing this full time.
08:57I think I'll just keep the job that I have.
09:00Except for a small bump over here, I would wear this out.
09:03Would I ask him to do it again? No.
09:05But, you know, it was a good experience.
09:08So, my advice is appreciate your father's young ladies and Dad's great job.
09:12Well, guys, that was quite the adventure.
09:15Thank you to our dads for being such great sports.
09:18And comment below.
09:20Tell us, did your dad do your hair when you were growing up?
