00:00My name is Devery and my self-care practice is thrifting.
00:04I really like how I get to portray a different character when I'm thrifting
00:10or when I pick my ultimate find.
00:13I don't know, it's very therapeutic to me.
00:15I really love how every item at thrift store has a story behind it and it's unique.
00:23I'm opposed to like mass-produced items and I really like things that are one of a kind
00:32that kind of I guess accentuate what I think of myself and my personality.
00:37So going to the thrift store always feels at home for me.
00:42My dad was the first one to introduce me to the art of the thrift.
00:48Using your time as your top resource above finances.
00:53We all would go every weekend to the flea market.
00:57He would go dumpster diving and my sister and I dreaded that.
01:02But one thing I remember is that he always came out with a gem
01:08and he used to always tell us one man's trash is another man's treasure.
01:13Everything that I wear, everything that I hang up on my wall,
01:16everything that I purchase for my home is kind of an extension to me and my personality.
01:24And I definitely have like my father to thank for that.
01:27I always know it's time for some self-care when I'm just getting agitated
01:33and irritated with simple things.
01:36I try to be like really chill a lot of the times.
01:39And when I find myself responding in a way that I'm not proud of,
01:45then that's when I know it's time to take a step back and go do something for myself.
01:51And kind of reconnect.
01:52You know, just check back in and make sure I'm doing alright.
01:56And if I'm not, it's okay.
01:57I really like how it allows me to transform.
02:00I can be whatever or whoever I want,
02:04whomever I want to be at the end of the session.
02:09So it's not a task.
02:11It's not something that I need to mark off of my to-do list.
02:16It's something that I look forward to and I'm excited to do.
02:20To me, self-care is just spending that much needed time by yourself,
02:25with yourself, and for yourself.
02:28We always are putting ourselves last.
02:31And so I think it's so important to spend that me time with yourself
02:36and continue to nurture that bond.
02:39Because if I don't spend that time with myself zoning out,
02:43and in this case thrifting,
02:45then I'm not going to be able to put my best foot forward
02:50for any of those other aspects of my life.
