00:00Okay, you're live. Happy Monday! It's me, Alexandra, and I'm here to talk to y'all about today about
00:08really best products and advice for our wavies and for our girls with finer hair. But you already
00:15know, if you have any questions, feel free to comment below and we will answer them. So I am
00:19back from vacation and y'all, it's a little tough coming back from vacay after being out for a week,
00:24but it's a new week and I'm here and I'm really excited to hop back into it. And I have one really
00:32big tip for y'all that I learned on my vacation. Since I have a little melanin in my skin, I was
00:39like feeling like I didn't have to use sunblock and I didn't put any sunblock on my face and I'm a
00:45little burnt up here by my forehead. So that has been a struggle y'all. My skin has been like really,
00:50really dry. Like for the past few days, I have been on like moisture overload. So just a quick
00:57tip for y'all out there traveling, bring you some face lotion and CVF in it and please moisturize
01:04your skin because that is a huge, huge misconception. So definitely bring that with you and travel back.
01:10So today we are talking about best products and advice for definitions for wavies and girls in like
01:19our 2B and 3A curl patterns. And our first question is really about getting definition at the root of your hair.
01:32And this is the question. How can I get the top of my head to curl like the bottom? I struggle with
01:38getting the top of my head to curl as it, as it pins straight up about three inches down. From then on,
01:45it's super curly. It's very unflattering and causes me to be hesitant to wear my hair natural. I'm at a loss
01:53of what to do. So for the wavies out there, y'all probably already know about this method. If you
01:59don't, it is called the O-clipping method. And what that is, is you tilt your head to the side just to get
02:07your head off of the root and off of the like off of your scalp. And then you tilt your head over and
02:13then you grab some clips and you start clipping them at the root. Now make sure that your clip is
02:18turned the outside so it's not actually coming down on your on your scalp. And you would apply,
02:25so you would obviously tilt over, apply some styling product and then clip your roots. And you're doing
02:30in an O, in the shape of an O. And you would apply that and leave it on your head throughout 15-20 minutes.
02:38And then you can even apply it in different spots too, just so that you don't, you're not left with
02:42like that clip invention. But I've heard that that works great for many, many wavies and stylists. So
02:49definitely give that a try. And you can use different, there's so many different types of clips out there,
02:54y'all. So depending on your hair density and your length, you can use bigger ones, smaller ones,
02:59single prong, double prongs, even vinyl ones. So definitely try that out and hope that works for you.
03:07So another one is, help, I lost my curly hair. My roots are wavy, but the ones surrounding and framing
03:13my face are extremely curly while the rest of my hair, ear down, is straight. I truly don't know what
03:19to do considering my hair is all over the place. Will they ever come back? So yes, your curls will
03:24definitely come back. Um, you can definitely try finger coiling. That's like my favorite, uh, go-to
03:30method for adding definition to my hair when it's in this natural state. Um, or you can even try a
03:37flexi rod. So, um, those are just like foam rollers and you can just apply a gel or mousse to your hair
03:44where you feel like, um, where you feel like it's a lot looser. And you can apply the styling product and
03:50then you can just twist it around that flexi rod and leave it in for about 20-30 minutes and then
03:55take it out and then see how that works. Um, Grace, I think the camera moved.
04:01I got you.
04:03Oh God. Um, so yeah, definitely try a finger coiling or a flexi rod or even if your hair is just not
04:11having it for that day because girl, there are days where our hair just does not want to cooperate.
04:16Um, you can even try like twisting it all in one side and going into a ponytail or a bun. Something,
04:22something quick and easy. So definitely try that and let us know how that works for you.
04:28Okay, so our next question is about clarifying, clarifying, uh, clarifying shampoo and different
04:35techniques. So clarifying ruined my wave pattern. What did I do wrong? Over the last month, it has
04:41alternated between 2B and 2C patterns and today as well as the day before, it just won't hold a wave
04:48at all. It got really frizzy with a slight wave and felt completely straight after some time. I just
04:55haven't had the money to buy a good deep conditioner yet, but I don't think that should make my hair
04:59from stop keeping a wave pattern suddenly after clarifying. Am I missing something?
05:05So there's a great article on naturallycurly.com about five mistakes that curlies make and one of
05:11them is clarifying. So definitely stop clarifying your hair and if you like stop clarifying it, um,
05:20like repeatedly I mean to say. So if you, if you just have to clarify your hair, it's suggested for
05:26wavies that you clarify like every three weeks, but in between time you're co-washing and you're using a
05:31low poo or no poo. Um, so I would definitely say start there. Um, and also try a deep conditioner
05:39that works for you and I know one of them. Let me see. I know there is a great deep conditioner from
05:46curl junkie that pretty much curlies just rave about. So really try that one. I can link that for
05:52you too. So you can get those product details. Um, and then if you're having like a lot of, if you're
05:59experiencing a lot of buildup, you can try the deep curl buildup buster, um, deep curl low poo,
06:05or even trader joe's all nourish shampoo is also a great cleanser without leaving your hair stripped.
06:11So definitely try those and let us know how that works for you.
06:16And if y'all have any other questions about your curls ways or kinks, please comment below and we'll
06:21answer them right now for you. Someone asked, hi, my hair is naturally wavy. I sweat a lot. How can I
06:27keep my edges straight along with the rest of my hair? Um, I think that kind of goes back to
06:35what I was just talking about too. So if you're, if you're experiencing that, you can try using a
06:43flexi raw, you can try finger coiling using the gel or mousse, or if it's just not cooperating,
06:47like I said, you can just twist it up into a bun. Grace, do you have any recommendations that you would do?
06:52For my, uh, keep my edges straight. I mean, I just use the sweat to slick and slick them down, you know?
07:01Yeah, yeah. You just slick it down, like, and like, like, put it under your ear.
07:05Yeah. Or use a little gel. Yeah. I think gel is probably the best, like, humidity, sweat proof.
07:11Yeah. Yes, definitely. And I think also too, I think sometimes it's like listening to our hair,
07:17like, if our hair just wants to be, like, slicked down today, well, girl, that's what we're gonna do.
07:21Like, like, you can't really just fight it, especially like sweat and humidity. Like, those are two,
07:26two big factors that you really can't go against. So now you just gotta give up. Yeah. So yeah,
07:33definitely try using a gel. I know, um, wavies love that Weedad climate control gel. Um, there's a
07:40Bounce LeMay gel that they also love. So definitely try finding a gel that really, really works for you.
07:44And like I said, try finger curl it, try, um, a flexi rod, or just try even twisting it and
07:52pinning it up and keep it moving. Um, so let's see. Oh yeah. Our next question is, I'm a wavy newbie.
08:01I'm a wavy and I have, I'm sorry, I'm a wavy newbie and I have no idea what to do with my hair or how to
08:07style it. I love to get more info, um, on to styling my waves and how I can keep it from looking way down
08:14and stringing. So definitely, um, I know it can be really, really overwhelming because now there are
08:22so many products. So wavies, you know, they definitely have a different, um, process versus
08:31like our curlies. So I think, um, you first want to start with cutting back on how many products you're
08:38using. So you might not need a leave-in, a primer, a mousse, a gel, like a finishing oil. You might not
08:44need all those products. So really, um, start back with, start with just cutting back on the,
08:49on your product usage. And also just really being aware of the ingredients and all the products.
08:55Um, I even noticed like when I first started working here and becoming really aware of, um,
09:01the ingredients and the products that I was using is a lot of them had a lot of heavy butters and oils
09:06in them and it was weighing my curly hair down. Um, so I think you can really just start there
09:10by cutting back on the products that you're using in your daily routine and then once you're doing
09:15that then slowly starting back with one or two products and then trying to figure out what is
09:20really the core of, um, of your issue and like what product is really making your hair really
09:26stringy and weighed down and then just cut that out and find what works for you. So find that gel or
09:31that mousse but you might not leave but you might not necessarily need a leave-in, a mousse,
09:35a gel, like you might not need all those things in your hair. Um, and you know, really,
09:42and really trying out those different methods such as like the squish and condish, um, you know,
09:48the praying hand methods, where you're actually like scrunching your hair to really give your
09:52waves definition. So definitely try that out. I love squish to condish. Yeah. Especially if you have
09:59low porosity hair, it's a really good way to condition your hair. Yes. Okay. Do y'all have
10:06any other questions that y'all want to ask? You're itching to ask? Feel free to comment below and I'll
10:12be sure to answer them. It doesn't have to be wavy centered. It can totally be for curlies, wavies,
10:19or type four girls, protective styles. Feel free to comment below and we'll answer them.
10:24So our next question is she just needs some pep talk y'all and I really feel like you can hop on
10:30Instagram and everybody has these amazing curls and so much volume and like so much definition and
10:37you're just like, girl, but I'm not, I'm not experiencing that yet. And that's okay. Like
10:41that is very real. You're being honest with yourself. Um, but sometimes you do this need like that motivation
10:47and pep talk. So definitely help us out on this one. If you also want to drop some motivation in the
10:52comments, feel free to do so below. Here's what she says. I have gone natural for two years. The
10:57first year I took pics only when I had to because I hated seeing myself without fake straight hair
11:03and felt so ugly. I hated not having the same straight hair I did when I was a little girl.
11:09I am seriously ready to just be blissfully fake again, but none, but one of my core values is to be
11:15real. I feel so I am sorry. I see so many curly girls who not only tolerate their curls, but are
11:21actually proud of them. Why and how? So I feel like, um, it's really just about you and where you're at
11:32in yourself and your, um, like your personal journey and your self love journey. Um, and really do what
11:39feels good for you. If you want to wear your dress straight and you want to wear wavy or whatever it is,
11:43like do that. Um, but whenever you're ready, definitely be ready to embrace all of the parts
11:48of you. Um, and for me personally, I actually big chopped three years ago and it, I was doing it
11:54because I wanted to free myself of, um, expectations and pressure from other people that they would put
12:00on me on how, on how they wanted me to look a certain type of way. Um, so do it for yourself though,
12:05but do it, you know, because you want to see that growth and that progress within yourself.
12:09And it's okay to have bad hair days. Like you don't have to, um, you won't be perfect every
12:16single day. Your hair won't, will not be perfect every single day, but just truly find what makes
12:21you happy and what hairstyles work for you and what products work for you. Um, so if y'all have
12:26any other encouraging words or words of motivation, feel free to comment below because we definitely
12:31want to encourage curly girls to live their best lives every single day. And if y'all have any other
12:37questions, feel free to comment below and I'll answer them. We have one, we have two, uh, one,
12:42a lot of edge gels start out good for me. Then they break me out to help.
12:48So I would, um, I would really try to see, really try to evaluate what is in that product.
12:58Um, I was, I was experiencing a lot of breakouts when I first started working here and we had to
13:03try and review all these products. I was like, my hair was on product overload and, um, for me,
13:09I was using like different stylers and it was dripping on down my face and I took my hairline.
13:14I kept breaking out right here. Um, so I would definitely say really try to research those
13:19ingredients and see that maybe you're allergic to something and also just switch it up. So
13:24finding new products, um, so edge controls and gels that work for my edges. I like to use
13:33the, um, it's like a, it's a paste for my edges. And then the other one that I would like is the,
13:40um, Ampro argan oil gel. So definitely those are my recommendations, but also just really evaluate
13:46the ingredients in your products that they're breaking you out to really get to core effect.
13:51Okay. Hi, I'm new to this high humid area. I'm having to wash about every day and I use a cleansing
13:59cream shampoo. Do you think this could be cleansing my hair too much? Would a low poo be better?
14:07Yeah. So I don't know too many curlies that wash their hair every day. So I would stay
14:13right there. Um, maybe just try switching it up, maybe try co-washing, maybe try using that low poo or
14:20that no poo. Um, and maybe just trying, maybe try washing every two to three days and just see how
14:25your hair reacts. And then I'm also a human in humid weathers girl. So I totally feel you right now.
14:31We could easily hit like 110 today in Texas and it's extremely humid. So I like to use mousses and
14:37gels in the summer cause it makes it like makes such a difference. Um, so yeah, definitely try that
14:44and then see how that works for you. And I can also share some of my favorite gels and mousses in the
14:49comments if that helps too. All right. We have another one. Hi, I have naturally curly hair,
14:55but why do I need to use a leave-in conditioner? Also, why do I need to wet it every day? I use a
15:01plastic bag to sleep in. What else can I sleep in? So, okay. So that's, that's a lot of different
15:08things. So the first thing, um, why do I need to use a leave-in conditioner? Okay. So most people
15:15is really just about getting that moisture back into your hair or, and it also helps for me too.
15:21I like to use a leave-in, um, slash detangler because for me, it helps detangle my hair. When
15:27I first wake up y'all, I have straight bedhead hair because I don't sleep with anything,
15:31I don't sleep with anything on my hair because it always comes off. So I don't use a bag or anything,
15:36but, um, really the leave-in is getting that moisture back into your hair from overnight.
15:42So you can try that. And like I said, it helped you tangle your hair before you style it.
15:47Um, and then sleeping with your hair, sleeping with curls overnight, you, if you don't want to
15:52sleep with a bag, you can try a satin bonnet, a scarf, or even satin or silk, uh, pillowcases. So
16:00definitely try those and see how that works for you. It was one more thing she asked. Um, why do I
16:05need to wet it every day? So wetting it, the same thing with, um, moisture in a sense, just kind of
16:12just rehydrating it each morning. Um, and for me, by me, like, uh, refreshing it with water,
16:18it just helps detangle my hair and just like refreshes that styling product that I had in there,
16:22that I had in there the day before, so I don't have to constantly keep adding styling products,
16:26which can lead to build up. So yeah, definitely try that if you're having, if you're not already.
16:34I don't have any more questions. Cool. Well, if y'all do not know already,
