00:13This is for you mom. I want to be just like you. Hey Naturally Curly world, it's Christina and I'm Grace and today for Mother's Day we are going to try to recreate our mom's old hairstyles.
00:30These are the photos she sent me of herself at varying ages, presumably in the 80s sometime, when feathered bangs and just brushing your hair after you set in hot rollers was a thing.
00:46I think I'm going to go for this middle one because my hair is short. Hot rollers are such an 80s thing. I went to Target to buy them and there's like one tiny little set at the bottom because no one uses hot rollers anymore.
00:57But I was there. I bought the hot rollers. They were $35 for something no one ever uses. I was like absolutely not.
01:04But I'm going to be returning these. Unless they look good, you know. Maybe they'll look good. But definitely going to be returning an open package of rollers to Target later.
01:12This is the Remington heated clip hair setter. Roll hair as usual in the direction of desired style to secure each roller. Place the clip crosswise over the rollers.
01:24Well, that's the only direction they gave me. I'm going to start off by parting my hair in the ever so flattering middle part.
01:34I'm going to brush through my hair. So sad. I hate brushing my hair. I look like Javier Bardem and there will be blood. It's fine.
01:43I brought a thermal protectant. This is Neuro Style Protect. I've never used it before but I figured it would be good to use.
01:54I'm going to roll and clip. I feel like these are too loose. Are they supposed to do that?
02:06Okay, so I ran out of rollers as you can tell. There are 20 rollers in this kit and they didn't even cover all of my head.
02:17And y'all know I don't have that much hair. Now I'm going to take them out and they're completely cool. And see how the curls look.
02:27My mom said the key is to leave the curls as is when they get out of the rollers.
02:35Hair spray the crap out of them. And then brush them. I think it might be working.
02:42Actually this actually looks like the style. I'm freaking out. I mean it's not exact. But you gotta admit I nailed the essence of the style.

03:05I feel like I look like a mom now. Beyonce's a mom and so am I. I had twins. And you haven't seen them yet. And I look great. And I headlined at Coachella. So.
03:17So I'm going to use the tools that she would have used. A blow dryer and a brush. And that's it. I'm not going to get too fancy with it.
03:25She I think used to be called Betty Boop. Because she had a sort of curly round bob. The look that I'm going to recreate was a little bit longer.
03:34And a little bit fluffier, curlier. Mostly just because she didn't have chi yet. I asked her how she used to wear her hair.
03:41And she said curlier because I didn't have a chi. Okay. I just wet my hair. I'm going to start now. My mom doesn't section her hair.
03:49She just kind of gets in there and starts straightening. I'm using this heat protectant. It's just the one that Grace used.
03:56I don't really use heat on my hair. So I don't have like proper heat protectant. Or even really a round brush. But we'll just see how this works.
04:08I never brush my hair.
04:13I'm trying to get my bangs to look more like hers. The way that it's starting to kind of curl on its own. I think is pretty similar to what hers does. So we're getting there.
04:35Okay. So I'm actually going to try clipping my hair under so that it looks closer to her haircut.
04:49This is pretty close. It's a little bit flippy around the face. It's tucked under at the bottom.
04:56And you can still see a little bit of the curls coming through. But it has also been blow dried and it's, you know, kind of fluffy. I think this looks pretty close to her hair really.
05:10As you can see my mom is really pretty. She, I think she's prettier than I am. Although she would always disagree with me.
05:18I really think that this looks a lot like my mom's hair. Like, I've kind of nailed it. Do you like it?
