00:00Everyone has a personal agenda. Committed to winning. It doesn't feel that way.
00:05This should bother you.
00:06Now, back to Stiney and Guru on 95.7 The Game.
00:10I'll tell you what, right now, it's hard to think that the four of us will be in any better mood than we are right now.
00:18You guys got a little truncation sensation coming up.
00:21That's got to be dope.
00:23Jesus Jones right here, right now.
00:25This show is about 40 minutes longer than ours right now is.
00:31We've got one coming up next.
00:33Yeah, but that's like Charlotte.
00:35It's a cheapie.
00:36It's a day we could have taken off anyway.
00:38Wait, you have a Charlotte game?
00:40New Year's Eve.
00:41The Warriors play Charlotte at 11 a.m. our time.
00:45Oh, yeah.
00:46I mean, like the great Oakland A's days.
00:50Those are the glory days.
00:51Were you guys listening when I gave you and Willard some major love?
00:55I mean, I listen to sports radio all over the country.
00:59I do.
00:59It's just that's what I do.
01:01So I know when it's good.
01:02Forget I'm here.
01:03But what y'all were talking about yesterday with pods, the fan base, and just the formula for it's never good when a player, if you're right, has that animosity.
01:18Like, that's not good for business.
01:20That was provocative.
01:21That was great radio by both of you yesterday.
01:23I was in the car like, damn.
01:25So, like, at the game on Tuesday night, you could tell, you know, and I don't, there's no resentment or even opinion to be stated here.
01:38It's just an observation that when Jonathan Kamingo was about to enter into the game, the arena's like, oh, yeah, here he comes.
01:47And then, obviously, it was an unfortunate circumstance because Pat Spencer's being pulled out for pods, but this was kind of true for opening introductions as well.
02:00Like, Brandon Podjemski just, it brings out a, like, eye roll.
02:09And even when you're watching him, like, when he goes for a shot, there's kind of like, we're going to cheer if this goes in.
02:16But I'm going to be pissed if it doesn't.
02:19That's kind of the way, and it's like, wow.
02:21And I don't think it's, I guess part of it's his fault.
02:25Part of it's his fault.
02:26I give him some blame.
02:27Yeah, he rubs everybody the wrong way with, like, I would like to be the best player who ever lived.
02:32And then he doesn't look like a basketball player.
02:36And then the part that's not his fault is he represents being Steve Kerr's pet player.
02:44That's it.
02:45I don't put that on him, Dibs.
02:48I mean, it's not on him, and it's not on Steve, because when he plays Brandon, Brandon does the things that Steve likes.
02:55And we talked about it yesterday where Kaminga has a way, way much higher ceiling.
03:00And I likened Kaminga, Stiney, to a six-story apartment building.
03:05And Podjemski is a ranch house.
03:08It's one floor.
03:09There's no upstairs.
03:10There's no downstairs.
03:12You get what you get.
03:13And the square footage might be the same.
03:15Like, your house is, like, it's tall.
03:18It's tall, and it's mighty.
03:20And there are different floors that are different, you know, levels.
03:24And you get up to the top, and it might not be as good as it is in the bottom.
03:27And I know the bottom is great.
03:28I've been there.
03:29I've never been to the top.
03:30Your house is Kaminga.
03:33And, you know, somebody else's house might be Pods.
03:37Interesting.
03:38It is interesting.
03:39It's so funny.
03:40We were just talking about, you know, every once in a while this comes up, the idea of,
03:44you know, post-Steph, you know, will a star come here?
03:48And I was like, I just think there's a lot of players that they're not going to want the
03:52burden after Steph of having to live up to, well, there's one guy, Pods.
03:59Pods is ready to take that challenge.
04:02Let's go, yeah.
04:03They'll be the first to tell you.
04:04I'm the elite player who will run this town.
04:08No problem.
04:08The thing I find interesting, like, you've been around for a while, Dibs and Willard and
04:14Goo.
04:15When I think of how many Warrior players were not liked?
04:20I don't know about you, but one guy always comes up.
04:23Mike Dunleavy.
04:25Yeah.
04:25Oh, well, damn.
04:26But I don't think Pods is in his category because Dunleavy was drafted third.
04:32He was overdrafted.
04:34That's why he was not liked.
04:35And he just wasn't his, you know, he wasn't a star.
04:36He was a great role player for 15 years.
04:38But never his verbal game.
04:40Like, you know, saying I want the keys and there's nothing wrong but saying it out loud.
04:44Right.
04:44It's almost like Dunleavy didn't live up to expectations, so they didn't like him.
04:49And Pods thinks he's got expectations that aren't there.
04:52And that's why.
04:53Dunleavy is Wiseman if he would have stayed for 10 years.
04:57Damn.
04:58If Wiseman was here for 10 years, then Wiseman would have been Dunleavy.
05:02Because the reason why we don't feel that way about James.
05:05Oh, I see what you're saying.
05:06I mean, Wiseman, like, oh my God, you were overdrafted and you weren't very good.
05:10But, you know, they were able to get rid of him.
05:13And then now he got hurt and now he's not a player anymore.
05:16But Dunleavy was here for, what, eight years?
05:18Yeah, probably.
05:18Nine?
05:19How far back are we going?
05:20We can go as far back.
05:22So if your nickname is Barely Cares, the fan base doesn't like him.
05:28That's fair.
05:28And that was real.
05:29Well, and it's also, again, what is out of these players' control that leads to this?
05:35Where you were drafted?
05:36Out of your control.
05:37Who you were traded for?
05:38That was a big one for him.
05:39Out of your control.
05:41Brandon Pajemski.
05:42Coach likes you and there's no one else at your position.
05:45Out of your control.
05:46What Brandon did, though, is he stepped into some things that are in his control.
05:50Which he says stuff.
05:52I got you.
05:53I think it's innocuous enough, but it rubbed people the wrong way.
05:56And I really believe that.
05:57To me, on the Google computer, that's 85% of you.
06:01And he's probably like, I'm just being honest.
06:04But, you know, if you're a good-looking dude, you can't just go, I know I'm good like that.
06:09There's no victory in that.
06:11And it's all circumstantial.
06:12What do you think that Joe Barry Carroll averaged as a lawyer in points per game?
06:18I'm going to say 14.
06:19Way north of that.
06:21Way north.
06:2222.
06:23A game.
06:24So we call him Joe Barely Cares.
06:27Fine.
06:27But the problem with Joe Barry Carroll is what happened and what could have happened.
06:33It could have been Parrish and McHale.
06:34Yeah, you got traded for two of the best big men who've ever played the game.
06:37Right.
06:37So we want to call him Joe Barely Cares.
06:40In 82-83, he played all but three games.
06:4438 minutes a night.
06:45And he gave you 24 points a night.
06:47Is that a guy who barely cares?
06:48Well, but what have we learned as Giants fans?
06:51Sometimes it's just the look on your face.
06:54Man.
06:54Brandon Belt.
06:55Brandon Crawford.
06:56You don't care?
06:57Wow, man.
06:58I'm so sick of these dead fish.
07:00They're champions.
07:01You're making me be mad at myself.
07:02They're champions for the Giants.
07:04And we're like, God, do you care?
07:07Are you there?
07:08And that was, again, we're leaving out half the audience because this was so long ago.
07:14But that was fun.
07:14Well, do your homework.
07:15You went for snappers?
07:16Yeah, but.
07:17Wake up, Granny.
07:17How many rebounds, Debs?
07:19It was near 10.
07:21He rebounded?
07:22How many rebounds, Debs, with the 20?
07:24Eight.
07:2520 and eight.
07:2720 and eight.
07:2824 and nine.
07:30Wow.
07:30Joe barely cares.
07:3124 and nine for a team that stunk.
07:35Well, that's just it.
07:3630 and 52.
07:37Wow, man.
07:38None of this stuff ever happens if the team's winning.
07:41Y'all get that.
07:42I mean, pods, like even last year or whatever, it didn't hit.
07:47It hit a little bit, but not the same way because his next round of comments were this offseason.
07:53And now you're 11 and 11.
07:55And the Kaminga contract situation in the offseason, that unfolded the way it did.
08:03And so now it gets turned up another notch.
08:06I got to do this, Willard, because you were the maestro at the summit.
08:11I remember my partners for sure.
08:13I think he was the only one, Debs.
08:14You got to correct me.
08:16Do you feel different about this team and their future currently at 11 and 11?
08:20And just everything warrior-like, as you did that night, I'm a little nervous because I said Western Conference Finals could be had.
08:28And I'm a little nervous.
08:29And I don't know where to put that energy, but this is not the start I saw.
08:34So I'm asking you, Debs.
08:35And I know Stiney was the kind of lone wolf to where he wasn't like, I don't see it.
08:40I think a little bit different.
08:42I'm a little shook.
08:42I'm a little different than where I was, but where I'm also maybe different than what I hear from most people right now.
08:49I'm not as freaked out yet.
08:52Like, it's 22 games.
08:55They have not been blessed with health.
08:57You can certainly predict that that will continue.
08:59But I don't know that that's going to continue.
09:02I do know the schedule is going to get better.
09:04I didn't think they were a championship contender to begin with, so I still don't.
09:10But I also, I'm not at the spot of this season is dust.
09:15I'm not either.
09:16And I hear that from a lot of people.
09:18You know, Shasky's ready to trade anybody.
09:21I'm almost in that line, though.
09:22Shasky's ready for a whole new roster.
09:27And I'm like, just.
09:28Yeah.
09:29But the other thing is, this conversation gets real in a month.
09:34It's not.
09:34Damn.
09:35For sure.
09:36Right now.
09:37You can't trade Kaminga now.
09:39Gotcha.
09:39So this is where I am with Mark.
09:42They're 11 and 11.
09:43And I said this, I do believe they think the schedule's been tough.
09:46And I do think it's been tough.
09:48And so they're getting Melton back.
09:50They're going to have to weather this three-game road trip without Curry and maybe Butler.
09:54But, like, the only thing left now is to try to get healthy and see what happens after four or five weeks of this team playing.
10:02And, like, you know, with some momentum and just.
10:05The real team.
10:05Exactly.
10:06Right.
10:06And then we'll figure out where we really are.
10:09But you have to let that.
10:11You must give that a chance.
10:12And for no other reason, then you have nothing.
10:15There's nothing to do now.
10:16You can say it, Townie.
10:17What?
10:18What was.
10:19You got to let it play out.
10:21Yeah.
10:21Well, mostly just because of a practical matter.
10:23Because of Kaminga.
10:24My God.
10:25And Kaminga.
10:25And also Melton now and Seth.
10:27And so I'm most interested in the next three or four weeks of, all right, Steph comes back.
10:33You've got Seth.
10:34You've got Melton.
10:35Like, who's in, who's out?
10:36Yeah.
10:36And that's, you know, partly what we were talking about on our thread today.
10:39And one of the things that I put out there as a possible engagement poll today is, who do you want to see lose minutes?
10:46Buddy, Pods, Moody, or all the above?
10:50Because people are going to lose minutes.
10:52No doubt.
10:53You would think.
10:53Like, if Melton can make threes consistently, he's going to be tough to get off the floor.
11:00No, but I don't want to be negative, Nancy.
11:02I know you've got to do the thing, but tomorrow's not promised.
11:05And the reason I bring up Melton is he's facing two opponents.
11:09Health.
11:10Well, they all are.
11:12But real quick, remember last week this time when you jumped me, you were like, they're going to practice.
11:16And I wasn't mad if they're going to practice.
11:18But who didn't get to practice?
11:19Steph got hurt out of nowhere.
11:21Now Jimmy's hurt.
11:22Out of nowhere.
11:22All the stuff that we think is going to manifest, sometimes, you know, father time or injuries get in the way.
11:29So I love hearing Melton.
11:31I'm juiced.
11:31I like them.
11:32They like them.
11:3327 years old.
11:33How good does that sound?
11:34Man.
11:3527 years old.
11:36Steph has an ankle and a thigh and a sickness.
11:40And we aren't even yet to Christmas.
11:42And that's all I've been preaching.
11:45And maybe that's a good thing.
11:47We've also learned in the past that sometimes if you can just breathe through the damn injury in the regular season, it can help you later.
11:55Say some miles on you.
11:56It can.
11:57It certainly did the last time they won in the postseason.
12:00But they were the three seed.
12:01Of course.
12:02And I'm not comparing this to that.
12:04But there's plenty of things I can compare it to.
12:08Last year, they made the second round, right?
12:10Yeah.
12:10Okay.
12:11At the trade deadline, they were under .500.
12:13Two games under.
12:14It's December week one.
12:16Right.
12:17The Boston Celtics won a title by being at .500 in late January.
12:21So, like, again, I'm not saying they're going on a championship run.
12:24No, I got it.
12:25I got it.
12:25This is a long way to go.
12:27God, there's a lot of things that are still going to happen.
12:30You're listening to 95.7 The Game.
12:32KGMZ FM at HD1 San Francisco and Odyssey Sports Station.
12:36Always live on the free Odyssey app and now broadcasting from the Laughing Monk Studios.
12:39I just got to ask you three the baseball question.
12:43I got to just real quick shift to the Giants.
12:45I heard Schwarber, they might be linking into Schwarber.
12:48Could they get that bat?
12:50No.
12:51I mean, I heard their Twitter account.
12:54I mean, I don't know if you read Andy Baggerly in The Athletic,
12:58but the Extra Bags article about, you know, the Japanese pitcher that everyone wants
13:03and he's going to be nine figures.
13:05I got that one.
13:05They were out.
13:06No, but they're out, and the reason why they're out is the reason why they're going
13:09to be out on Schwarber is they don't want to spend top dollar.
13:13They sold part of the team, and they want to, I don't know if they want to break even,
13:17but they don't want to spend more than they have to.
13:19And part of the article was they owe Blake Snell, I think, $24 million in deferred.
13:24They owe Bob Melvin $4.
13:26They paid Tennessee $3 for their new manager, and they're paying him $3.
13:31So that right there is $34 million of here's money that is sunk cost.
13:35I don't want to question Bags reporting at all.
13:38But you're about to.
13:40I don't believe anything.
13:42I don't believe Schwarber, and I also don't believe we won't buy Schwarber.
13:47Oh, okay.
13:47So you didn't rule it today, Schwarber.
13:49Here's my evidence.
13:51I remember financial constraint articles last offseason.
13:55And then they signed Willie Adamas and acquired Rafael Peppers.
13:58Right.
13:58So, like, I don't buy it.
14:00I think that this Giants ownership, one thing that they've done well in recent months
14:05is they've learned how to under-promise and over-deliver.
14:09Because they learned from the Farhan Zaidi era, whoops, we kind of slipped and fell into over-promise,
14:16under-deliver.
14:16We're in on everybody.
14:18And then they would acquire a third-string catcher from Houston, and everybody got pissed.
14:23So last year, they're like, no, no, no, like, boy, Mission Rock, okay, this is financial.
14:29And then Willie Adamas, and then Rafi Devers in the middle of the night, and all of that.
14:34So I don't, the Schwarber thing I don't believe for other reasons.
14:38I don't, I don't know.
14:39That he would be an ad.
14:40Where do you play him?
14:42Where do you play him?
14:44Why would he want to come to a place as a left-handed power hitter where the power alley is 470,000 feet?
14:51He's made it look small on his visits.
14:53Is Schwarber Greek?
14:55No.
14:55They may have, what about the Greek population out here?
14:58It's funny you say that, because I actually looked it up.
15:01Shout out Anna Kakarakis.
15:02Did you really?
15:02I looked it up.
15:03And Schwarberakis?
15:04You were talking about, like, the Greek population, and you talked about Anna Kakarakis.
15:10Back when we used to do updates, she was doing updates on the morning show.
15:14Anna is phenomenal, and she's a powerhouse in the Greek community.
15:19But the number one Greek community in the U.S. is New York.
15:24And California's two, and then Illinois is three.
15:28So, I mean, if you're the Greek freak, and I think it's Astoria, New York, which I don't
15:34know how close that is to New York City, but if you're the Greek freak, you're probably
15:37not thinking Milwaukee, but I don't even know how much that matters.
15:41They were talking about it.
15:42He's going to bring his whole family with him on the roster anyway.
15:45He doesn't need Greek population.
15:46Are you at all concerned about his calf issue?
15:48This ain't the first time.
15:49Like, he might be out a month.
15:51There's another thing I don't believe.
15:53I mean, an hour after Shams.
15:54That looked weird.
15:55Shams is like, they're going to meet about his future.
15:58And he's like, I'm hurt.
16:00And he left.
16:00Did you see him fall into it?
16:01It didn't look natural, man.
16:03I don't know.
16:04I'm just in a cynical mood.
16:05Hey, Ali, we need you to take a dive.
16:08That's how that looked.
16:11Yeah, interesting time.
16:12Willard's calling him a faker.
16:13Who is?
16:14Willard calling Giannis a phony.
16:17Listen, Willard, I'm with you.
16:19I'm with you, baby.
16:21I love Giannis, but there's a little thing that bothers me about him.
16:25It's just one.
16:26It just sticks in my craw a little bit.
16:29How can you tell me that you're all about winning,
16:33but then you demand that you waste roster spots on brothers who don't play?
16:39I don't get that.
16:40I mean, whatever, waste roster spots.
16:42Just, dude, you make $60 million a year.
16:46Buy him the place next door and bring him with you.
16:49He doesn't need to be on the roster.
16:51And he makes a lot of notes.
16:52What the hell?
16:53What's his name?
16:54That's so weird to me.
16:56What's his first name?
16:56By the way, Damian Lee can be a warrior, and we're okay with it.
17:00No, but that's, Damian Lee went on to a, like, he is an NBA player.
17:05He's an NBA player.
17:06I mean, ish.
17:07He's held down a job since leaving, Steph.
17:09Kind of.
17:10You know what I mean?
17:11I mean, maybe.
17:12Like, LeBron is the only other person, and that's for a completely different deal,
17:18who has essentially strong-armed organizations into bringing the family to roster spots.
17:24And, like, that became an international incident.
17:27Giannis has been in his whole career, and nobody says a word.
17:31But has Stinev, has he ever played, has he ever gotten that good in the game?
17:35The idea of you saying holding down roster spots is a little bit dramatic to me.
17:41Because Jackson Rowe has held down a roster spot.
17:44Not anymore.
17:45Right.
17:45And, I mean, you've got other warriors who are.
17:47But what is that?
17:48But that's.
17:49It means that there are people on NBA teams who just sit there.
17:52Whether or not their name is Antetokounmpo or Smith.
17:54But nobody strong-armed them into doing that.
17:57That's the word.
17:57You don't know he's strong-armed them.
17:58It could be a coincidence that he happens to have the same name.
18:02I mean, he has all but admitted it.
18:07And I just think it's a weird dynamic that I've never seen.
18:10Last year they had him off the team, but he would come to the gays and sit in the first row.
18:13Can you imagine if this happened somewhere else?
18:17Name the person and name the sport who's just like, by the way, my brother comes to.
18:24Or I'm not here.
18:25And what would we say about that?
18:27I've never heard of this.
18:30Yeah, you mentioned it.
18:31It was Bronny James.
18:32Well, right.
18:32But that's his son.
18:34And that became very widely discussed.
18:37Guru hasn't been able to let that go for a year and a half.
18:41Here's a good one.
18:42What do you got?
18:43Remember, there's a great one.
18:44For the boxer and Gerson work injury attorneys.
18:47Thank you, listeners.
18:48Remember Jack Haley?
18:50Yep.
18:50I worked with Jack Haley.
18:52Jack Haley.
18:53Oh, man.
18:54Yeah, Jack Haley and Fox down in L.A.
18:56Yeah.
18:56Because he was Rodman's guy, right?
18:58Yeah.
18:59But he's not.
18:59Wave in a towel.
19:00But he's not his brother.
19:02Yeah.
19:03It doesn't matter.
19:04What if Seth couldn't shoot and he was only on the Warriors because Steph was like, I'm the
19:09big dog and I got a little brother and I would like him to be with me because he's my friend.
19:15What would we say about that?
19:18Especially when you're losing the Bucs suck.
19:20But with Steph, we'd say, I get it.
19:22Yeah.
19:23Wow.
19:23We would.
19:24No, I mean, I'm not saying I don't get it with Giannis.
19:28I'm saying, it doesn't bother me that much.
19:33I just, to me, that's been worthy of a Stephen A. Smith rant somewhere along the road.
19:38And nobody, Giannis is a good dude with a great rep.
19:42And so nobody says anything.
19:44But that's a weird deal.
19:45I look at the brother all the time.
19:47It's a weird deal.
19:48Why don't I get mad at him?
19:50What if Sam Durant was the 12th guy on the Rockets?
19:54Yeah, boy.
19:55And you would take him.
19:56I'm not coming unless Sam is, like, what would we say?
20:01Sanasis has been a buck for six years and he's done a lot of things.
20:04Six years.
20:05He's played.
20:06How many games has he played?
20:09205.
20:10And how many minutes?
20:12Total?
20:12206?
20:13That's actually pretty funny.
20:15I mean, what do we do?
20:16He's averaging about five minutes a game.
20:18Right.
20:19And it's all garbage time.
20:21Does he ever play?
20:21Somebody needs to play garbage time.
20:23In 2022, he had a big year.
20:26He scored 171 points in 48 games.
20:29Mm-hmm.
20:29Uh-huh.
20:30More than you've scored in your career.
20:31This is true.
20:32That's right.
20:32Even my high school career.
20:33And let's not even pretend that Nepo, Nepo Nation.
20:36Oh, of course it happens.
20:37I mean, yeah, exactly.
20:39It happens everywhere.
20:40Can you give me a comp in any sport where someone strong arms their brother on the roster?
20:49Someone saying, not quite the brother, but someone saying, well, that's what Steph does
20:53with Draymond.
20:54Okay.
20:55I mean.
20:56He's headed to the Hall of Fame.
20:57Yeah.
20:58Guy's holding the Hall of Fame.
20:59Yep.
21:00Yep.
21:00And it's because of Steph, but I get it.
21:02I get it.
21:03Stand on it.
21:04I think we just did.
21:06Does anybody feel bad for Chris Paul?
21:08That they did it on the road?
21:10Hey.
21:11Chris Paul.
21:12Tell him.
21:13Yeah.
21:14Speak on it.
21:14No, I'm like, I wouldn't be shocked either way.
21:16I love, I was listening earlier when you got the Draymond sound and this, that's great.
21:20It is great.
21:21It's just phenomenal.
21:22No, but you guys, and you guys were phenomenal with it.
21:25Okay.
21:26Chris Paul, it's incredible.
21:29You could argue that he's the best player in the history of that organization.
21:33Okay.
21:34You could argue that.
21:35No doubt.
21:35He was the most important player at their best moment.
21:38They're not a good organization.
21:39And they just dumped him.
21:40I know it's a new coach and a new ownership and all that, but they just dumped him in the
21:43middle of the night on a Tuesday across the country.
21:46It's so unceremonious.
21:47But at the same time, I'm telling you, for years, and it's never been, Chris Paul is every
21:53bit as tough on his teammates as Kobe was, and then some.
21:57That I totally believe.
21:58He is so, like, Chris makes dudes cry.
22:02Yeah.
22:02And did for years.
22:04And that Lob City thing broke apart because the likes of Blake Griffin and others were like,
22:09that's the biggest bleep hole I've ever met in my life.
22:11And Ty, lose a respected coach.
22:13You're not talking to him?
22:15I'm just like, whoa.
22:17You're not at a position anymore in your career where you cannot talk to the cops.
22:21That's where it's at.
22:21Like, you're not good anymore.
22:22That's what blew me away.
22:23Yeah.
22:25All right.
22:26I don't have to apologize at all for anything because you guys are almost out of here.
22:31We're going to follow you out the door.
22:32Okay.
22:33Well, Warriors, Sixers, 4 o'clock.
22:36We should get Jimmy Butler news real soon.
22:38He's out.
22:39He's out.
22:39Sorry about that.
22:40I missed that while we were in a meeting.
22:41And do we get your Thursday night pick?
22:43We're talking about Kaminga questionable, Horford questionable, and what happened to the number?
22:48Because it was three and a half, right?
22:49Yeah.
22:50What happened with the number when Butler got announced now?
22:52Not sure.
22:52Hadn't checked.
22:53We got a number update.
22:55Warriors, seven-point underdog now.
22:56They should be able to win this game, though.
22:57One more point.
22:58All right.
22:58Evan says it's now down to four in a hook.
23:00Okay.
23:01All right.
23:02Well, listen.
23:02We'll see you guys tomorrow on 95.7.
23:04Bye.
23:05Bye.
23:05Bye.
23:05Bye.
23:06Bye.
23:06Bye.
