00:05before they go into entrepreneurship, you should go into it with one goal, and that is serving.
00:11You cannot lead unless you know how to serve.

00:22I'm Melvin.
00:23And this is our Essence Uncovered.
00:30What does it feel like to be on the cover of Essence?
00:34It is a very exciting and proud moment.
00:37It is a historic moment for myself and Melvin and our company because of what Essence represents.
00:43It represents culture.
00:44It represents Black excellence.
00:46It represents Black success.
00:47And we are telling our story through the cover.
00:51So our story must be told, and we are excited to tell our story with the hopes of inspiring
00:56and encouraging others to fulfill and live out their best destiny.
01:00To be in this moment on the cover of Essence magazine for our communities to see two Black
01:12husband and wife that have done something historical for our communities to see this.
01:21We are proud, we are grateful, because we understand that our communities can't be what they don't
01:27see.
01:28And we are proud and grateful that Essence have agreed to allow our community to see and
01:34learn of this story.
01:37If I had a Bible verse to represent our marriage and our company, I think there would be two different
01:44verses.
01:45So the Bible verse that represents our company, I would say, is write the vision, make it plain.
01:53So he that reads it may run with it.
01:55Because everything that we have accomplished to this day, we have spoke it and I have written
02:02it down.
02:02And I want to be clear.
02:05And those of you who will watch this, what Monique just said, write the vision, make it
02:13plain.
02:14Every single thing we have accomplished, that has happened.
02:18And we get receipts.
02:21Everything we wrote down, we spoke it into existence, we prayed on it, and God did what
02:27God does.
02:28And then the Bible verse that represents our marriage, the woman was pulled from your rib.
02:37And it is so.
02:39And it is so.
02:40And with that purpose, with me saying that, for me, it represents our unity and how, you
02:50know, you are still the head of the household and being a submissive wife, according to the
02:55Bible.
02:56You know, it doesn't represent that, you know, I'm weak.
03:00What that represents is that I know how to let my husband lead and be the head of the household.
03:05And when a husband truly leads, it gives the wife permission to be submissive because I trust
03:12his judgment and his guidance as my husband.
03:15How do we decompress when we're outside of building this amazing company?
03:27Well.
03:28Oh man, we turn up.
03:31I like to travel.
03:33I like to go anywhere where there's a beach and sand and I can lay out.
03:38No, I agree.
03:40Traveling, I think in terms of decompressing for us, we do a lot of reading and meditation,
03:45lots of prayer, lots of reflection.
03:48Um, and, and just time to, to rest so that we're equipped and prepared for what's to come
03:56when we're, um, getting back to our normal day to days.
03:59Um, but for us, we, you know, we try to have fun.
04:04We, we try to protect our joy, our happiness, um, as best we can.
04:10We practice and balance the two in terms of business versus personal and being parents.
04:16We found the secret in all of that.
04:20And I'll tell you guys, this is when you have God at the center, if in all that you do,
04:26he will create the balance for you.
04:29When people talk about what's worked like balance, the balance is already there.
04:34And so the reality is we lean and trust in on that.
04:38And it is so, and we've been able to flourish and, and, and being successful at doing all things
04:44business, personal, and parenting.
