00:00Join Kiki Palmer as she enters the world of your favorite Disney stories
00:04This is gonna be my shot!
00:06While master food artists from around the world compete to create storybook endings
00:11Time is running out! Go, go!
00:14I am so excited. Oh, you should be excited
00:18Only one can win
00:21This is Foodtastic!
00:23So, I'm excited to talk with you about Foodtastic, you know, premieres on Disney Plus December 15th
00:34And one thing I do want to ask you first and foremost is hosting, what do you love about getting to host?
00:40You've had a lot more opportunities over the last couple years to be able to hold the microphone and talk to other people
00:47And what I get from it is that you get to be personable, you get to be yourself
00:51And so, what do you love about, you know, being on the other side getting to host and lead in that way?
00:58I think it's just what you said, you know, getting the opportunity to be myself and to really talk to people
01:02And, you know, I think there's something about hosting that makes you feel a lot more human sometimes than the acting can
01:09Or just the kind of celebrity vibe can
01:11And I really feel like I can actually, you know, be myself as a host and ask and be curious and be just, you know, who I truly am at heart
01:18And so, I really enjoyed that moment of just being able to kind of just, you know, people will see me as I am in that moment, you know
01:26Nice! And, you know, on Foodtastic, there are some very skilled, extravagant things that are being made into stuff from the Disney universe
01:35From varying food ingredients
01:38What do you love about this concept and getting to see all of these different creations come to life?
01:45Man, I love being thrust into the knowledge of an actual food art competition
01:49You know, we always see the food art shows
01:52I mean, excuse me, the food competition shows that are like, you know, okay, food tastes good
01:56And this, that, and the third
01:57But I never had seen one where people actually taking food and creating actual constructs out of it
02:03And really turning it into this miraculous piece of art
02:06Turning it into people and places and things
02:08I never had seen that done before
02:10And not just with even, you know, baking stuff
02:14But actually like fruits and vegetables and actual produce
02:17So that was really cool
02:18And then the other side of it, aside from obviously hosting, which excited me
02:21Was the opportunity to play different characters that actually kind of tell the story
02:26That helps to design all of our artists' masterpieces
02:31You know, whether it's Pirates of the Caribbean or it's Beauty and the Beast
02:35Me being able to play a new character from those IPs
02:38That then tells the tale of how this particular art piece is coming to form
02:42Was such a cool and I think unique aspect of our show
02:46That I was like, oh yeah, I gotta do this
02:48Nice, I love it
02:49And speaking of food
02:50What is the most extravagant thing that you've made in the kitchen?
02:53Man
02:54Man, extravagant is a strong word
03:00I think the most interesting or, you know, extravagant thing I made was probably like meatless meatballs
03:11You know, I made like mushroom meatballs when I was trying to go on this crazy diet
03:15I'm this person that's always trying to figure out what's wrong with me
03:18And what foods I need to take out and what's best for my diet
03:21So I've done a lot of interesting and difficult recipes just based off of trying to find the best thing for me to consume
03:28So I think, you know, that was a pretty good
03:29Like it was like literally, you know, spaghetti and meatballs
03:32But it was not real meatballs and it wasn't bad
03:34Okay
03:35And what is the one thing people would be surprised to know you can throw down and make?
03:38I'm like crickets, crickets
03:45You know, maybe some good cornbread
03:47I'm good for cornbread
03:49I'm good for some cornbread
03:51But I have not in any way reached actual territory of you being like
03:55Oh no
03:57Don't even
03:58No
03:59Like don't get your hopes up
04:02No
04:03I'm sitting there at the recipe book like
04:05I love it, I love it
04:09What's the most elaborate thing actually that you've seen made on the show?
04:12If you can give us any kind of hints at what we're going to be seeing
04:15Man, really everything
04:17But I think, you know, Ant-Man episode and Pirates of the Caribbean episode
04:21And the Muppets episode
04:23I saw some really incredible stuff that I think will be mind-blowing
04:26You would never imagine that any of it is food
04:28It's really kind of just like next level
04:30You know what I mean? Where it's just like
04:32You see these people's imaginations
04:34And it's like you wonder how they're able to do that and go there
04:37And I think it's going to be really inspiring for both parents and kids
04:40You know, I think kids obviously because kids are already thinking this way
04:43And they're going to be just encouraged to create in a very like limitless aspect
04:47But then parents, you know, some parents that love to cook
04:50Or that are, you know, even construction workers
04:52Because not everybody on our show that's in the competition
04:54Is a legit food artist that has done tons and tons of competitions
04:58A lot of the people are just everyday people that said
05:00Hey, I do something similar in the structure format
05:03Let me try this show out
05:05You know what I mean?
05:06Nice, I love that
05:07And also speaking of food
05:09The holidays are approaching
05:11What side are you bringing to the family table or friend table
05:14And how do you plan to celebrate?
05:16I'm bringing the side of my stomach
05:19Empty and ready to be full
05:22I plan on really just gorging down all of my dad's favorites
05:27From barbecue chicken to sweet potatoes to mac and cheese
05:31To literally everything that he had to offer
05:34But I'm going to have to ask him to try to do some special recipes for me
05:37Because I'm trying not to eat any gluten
05:39And I know I always come to my family house with this dramatic stuff
05:42But my dad luckily always obliges me
05:44So, you know, I'm ready for today
05:46Today's my new version of fried chicken
05:50I love it, I love it
05:52And do you plan to bring the new bay along for the holiday celebration?
05:58Yes, you know, the conversation has not come up
06:00But I'm welcome, you know what I mean?
06:02I'm one of those people where my family is already open doors
06:05You know, with my friends
06:06A lot of my different friends have come down to Thanksgiving
06:09And spend time with us
06:10So, yeah, you know, depending on what he's doing with his family, absolutely
06:13Oh, I love that, I love that
06:15And so you have a history with Disney
06:17You know, you've done Jump In
06:18And then coming up you have the Proud Family Reunion
06:20Well, the reboot
06:22What do you love about working with Disney?
06:25You're living the dream as somebody who's like a Disney-like film
06:28And everything lover, Disney World
06:30Me too, me too
06:31It's the same
06:32And it definitely is a dream
06:33I mean, when I first came out to California
06:35Disney was one of the first people that believed in me
06:37You know, Gary Marshall read Disney Channel Greenlit
06:39Or not Greenlit
06:40But Greenlight, my first pilot
06:41Even though it didn't get picked up
06:43And then kept me around in mind for many different things
06:46From Jump In to the music
06:48And, you know, I was probably the first, I think, person
06:51Even on Disney Channel to have their music video played
06:53And not being, you know, signed to Hollywood Records
06:55So they've been a company that has always believed in me
06:58And I think it really comes from the fact that they really appreciate Evolve Villain
07:02They are an old company that has continued to be able to thrive in each generation
07:07And I think they've always appreciated people that did multiple things
07:10And they always embraced that about me
07:12And I think that's why our relationship has continued to grow
07:15As I've continued to evolve as an artist
07:17They have continued to embrace all those different qualities
07:19And use them
07:20And I would love to be used at their service
07:22Because it's what I love to do
07:24Nice, nice
07:25And lastly, I wanted to ask you
07:27When we're speaking about all this extravagant, awesome food
07:30Simple enough
07:31What is your favorite food?
07:32Oh, man
07:33I love sweet potatoes
07:35I mean, like, I think I'm like a favorite meal person
07:37Right?
07:38Okay, gotcha
07:39I love sweet potatoes
07:40I love catfish
07:41I love
07:42I don't try to eat it too much
07:43Macaroni and cheese
07:44But I love macaroni and cheese
07:46Dressing
07:47Like that's like
07:48I mean, like those are some of my favorite things to just eat
07:50I come from a very like typically soul food eating kind of home
07:53So my dad was
07:55Learned how to cook from his mother
07:56So, you know, he throws down
07:58And so I grew up with a lot of nice
08:00Midwestern soul food cooking
08:01And that's like my favorite stuff, you know?
08:03Nice, nice
08:04And I know you mentioned it
08:05Like what you're not eating as much of
08:07And things like that
08:08Like do you alter how you eat?
08:10I know you talked about your PCOS
08:11And I know I have my own kind of issues in my skin too
08:14So how do you kind of, you know, tailor the things that you love
08:18With knowing like, okay, well I also need to be cognizant of
08:21What I'm putting into my body
08:22Absolutely
08:23I mean, I just think as I've gotten older and there
08:25You know, I'm trying to keep my body in the best shape that I can
08:27And obviously I really do want to
08:29You know, I think anything we see in our bodies
08:31Whether it's a skin issue
08:32Even though it can seem very cosmetic or very trivial to some
08:35It's a message that, okay, something's off
08:37You know, I don't have to have this going on
08:39Okay, what can I do to kind of counteract this?
08:42Is there something that I'm consuming or something that I'm putting on to me?
08:45And so through that constant journey, I'm always learning something new about myself
08:49Especially as it pertains to allergens
08:51And so I think, you know, with PCOS
08:53And finding out about how my hormones are all out of whack
08:55It taught me a lot about, you know, oils, fats, lactose
08:58And then now I'm realizing, okay, there might be even more to this
09:01And I've realized that gluten has actually really affected me as well
09:05So now I've been taking that out of my diet
09:07And I'll be excited to see whether it takes me maybe, you know, three to six months from now
09:12Because it takes time for your body to readjust to all of that
09:15And actually be able to see what's really working
09:18And that's the hard part is sticking to it
09:20Right, for sure
09:22And, you know, food testing looks amazing
09:24You, like, you're having a lot of fun
09:26So what can we expect from you?
09:27I hear we're going to get to see you dressed up as different characters
09:30Very excited about the characters
09:34Anybody that loves my sketches will really love that there's an aspect of that in this show
09:38Aside from that, obviously the amazing food art that they're going to see
09:42Really, their minds are going to be honestly blown
09:44And there's also a lot of very heartfelt stories in there
09:47That you would not really be expecting
09:49So it's also a very moving show
09:51And then just general fun and beauty
09:53You know, it's a beautiful set
09:55It's a, you know, I mean, we also had such a great time with every single theme
10:00As I was hosting and coming out
10:02I would literally, you know, make my outfit to the theme of the show
10:05Like in his own fashionable way
10:07Shout out to Seth, my stylist, who did an absolutely fabulous job
10:10Transforming all of these kind of classic looks into modern fashion
10:14I think people are going to have a lot of fun with that, too
10:16Nice
10:17Well, I'm excited for it
10:18And thank you so much for making time to chat with me, Victoria from Essence
10:22So just thank you
10:23And I look forward to the show December 15th
10:25Yeah, yeah, thank you
