BIA Talks New Project and More
Transcript
00:00First, I just wanted to start out with, you know, we had like a crazy year last year,
00:13but you ended it with a project. So how was your year? I'm sure you were, you know, preparing for
00:19that. But how was it? Well, aside from like the quarantine, it was a reflecting year. Like,
00:28you know, those years that when you, when you either go through like a breakup or you like
00:32come through like a turning point in your life where you're like, what's going on in my life
00:35right now? Where do I go next? That's what me making for certain was. So like a lot of that
00:40music was just me, like not seeking validation from other people and just really like, you know,
00:46tuning back in and building my own confidence back up. No, definitely. I love that. My favorite
00:53song is Same Hands with Lil Durk. So, but I'm going to ask you about that later. So, yeah. So how did
01:00it feel to kind of have a new body of work out? I know that you like switch teams and all of that.
01:05So it was kind of like a, just a refreshing start. So how was it to put out a project?
01:10Oh, I think for any artist, like it's so rewarding to just have it out, you know,
01:15because we put so much work in behind the scenes and there's so many like tweaks and changes that
01:20can delay a project coming out. So when it finally came out, I was like, oh my God, like
01:25finally, you know, like I just rejoiced with my friends and the people that helped me make it and
01:29helped me make that possible. So. Right, right. Definitely. Um, okay. So you, I know that Best
01:36on Earth kind of was, would you say that that was like a transitional point? Um, I know the song with
01:40Russ, that's kind of, I knew you before that, but that started when I really tapped into you and
01:45started listening to your music. Um, what was that song for you in your career?
01:50Oh man. I love that song. I just wasn't expecting that to go the way it did. And I just wasn't
01:55expecting, you know, Reed to embrace it the way she did because, you know, like it was just
02:02crazy. It was, it was a moment for me. It was so, it was what I needed.
02:06Did you know she was going to post it or like, how was that feeling when you saw that she posted
02:10like the slow-mo vid and all of that?
02:13No, I didn't know. I had sent it to her, but I didn't know, like I, I've sent her the song,
02:18but I didn't think, I didn't think anything like that.
02:20Right, right, right. Definitely. Um, so with your, or your project for certain, what's your
02:26favorite song on the album or project, I guess I'm going to call it album.
02:29Oh, it's so crazy. Cause I don't have one. Everybody always asks for that, but I don't,
02:35I don't have one. I would say I have different, um, I have like maybe like a top few. Does that
02:41make sense? I guess give me your top you or like the days when you're feeling like turned
02:49up. Different, different moments. So I would say Bia Bia because it has, you know, little
02:55John and it's such a nostalgia. Me growing up with listening to little John to have him
02:59a part of that legend. So I loved it. And, um, cover girl, because honey, when I made cover
03:06girl, I was just in that bag of like, yeah. So it's like basically cover girl is always
03:16the anthem for me for the girls, you know? And, um, whole lot of money is cause it's a
03:22newer one for me. And I just feel like, no, when my friend, my friend actually played me
03:28that song and I was like, Oh, this is like one of my favorite songs right now. Like that
03:32one in same hands. I like have that on repeat right now. Um, but I wanted, you actually mentioned
03:38this song with little John and I wanted to ask you like, how did that link up happen? Or
03:42just like, how did you, how did you feel having him on a song? I think that's so iconic. Um,
03:47so yeah. How, how did that link up happen? He actually sent me a song to do a feature
03:52for like months ago, like maybe like eight months, nine months ago. And I did the feature
03:58for him, but this, I don't think this, the song hasn't came out yet, but, um, then when
04:03I, after we had built that relationship, when my producer Aziz did Bia Bia, I'm like, Oh,
04:08perfect. Let me hit little John because if there's a little John for it, it's this one.
04:14Definitely. No, I love that. Uh, so I know that your whole vibe was like orange. Is there
04:18any significance to that color or do you just like it? Cause you just look good in it.
04:22Um, you know, what's crazy. I think everybody has like colors that are like, you know, match
04:28their aura. Um, I just happened to feel like I didn't know mine was orange until I put it
04:33on my head. You know, once I put it on my head, it started like, you know, I just like morphed
04:39into Bia. Like it just, a different type of Bia. Cause it just felt more like me. Like,
04:44you know, I feel like I'm orange inside, if that makes sense.
04:48Yeah. I love it. Cause you don't see like many black girls just trying and like really honing
04:54in on like a bright color, you know, that we may see it switched up, but we, I love that.
04:59Like your vibe is orange. It's super cute. Um,
05:02They make it seem like we can't own the color. Like, you know, like, you know, it's like,
05:06why can't the girl from Paramore have orange hair? But if I have orange hair, it's tacky or it's
05:10ghetto. It's like, no, I'm going to wear this one. I love it. I loved your, um, you did a
05:19performance on new year's and you had the orange, like that look on. Um, I like it all together.
05:24It was super cute. Um, yeah, I loved it. We're, so I'm just wrapping up the last question. I wanted
05:30to know, like, what's your vibe this year? Like, obviously I'm not gonna ask you, like you don't
05:34have to run down your goals for me, but what can we expect just to see more of, um, from you this year?
05:40Um, I definitely want to move more into the, the entrepreneur space. Like I want to start
05:45a few more businesses. I want to move more into the beauty space. That's a big goal for
05:49me. And, um, just definitely more like where the business woman had, like, I really want
05:55to share some knowledge, um, you know, more mentorship, more philanthropy and just reach
05:59out to the girls and just really let them know what's going on. Like, I want to be that person.
06:05I can totally see you in the beauty space. I think that would be a cute little market for
06:08me to tap into. So I'm excited to see. Yeah, I'm excited to see what you do with that.
06:13Cause I think there's some, there's some money for you to be made in the beauty space for
06:16sure. Um, nail lines, girl, cause I love nails. I do nails all the time.
06:21Those are cute. Are those pressed ones or like, uh, acrylic or whatever?
06:26They're in gel. Oh, really? Those are cute.
06:28Yeah. So it's like, you just, they're like, you press them on with gel and it's a vibe,
06:33girl. You can decorate them. It's like a little therapeutic thing. It's like a little hobby I have.
06:38We need some Bia nail gel press ons very soon in the works.
06:42Yes! Maybe I should do that.
06:44Yes, you definitely should. Well, thank you so much for tapping in with me. Make sure everyone
06:49go follow Bia on IG. Bia Bia, correct? Yes. Bia on IG and Bia Bia on Twitter. But, um,
06:55yes. Thank you so much for having me. God bless and you stay healthy and safe and happy 2021.
07:01Yes. Thank you. You too.
