01:21like me shout out to michaela cole i love michaela cole i love chewing gum i may destroy you change my
01:28life you are that girl i was inspired to pursue screenwriting after watching bended like beckham
01:32written by grinda cheta viola davis in doubt she was on screen for like less than like eight minutes
01:38and she just destroyed it i'm actually inspired by actors and creators who who changed the landscape
01:45rami yusuf rami the different world is amazing and what it did for the culture what it did for
01:50black culture roger guinevere smith for a huey p newton story billy holliday was my mother's favorite
01:56singer and i grew up on her songs and listened to them daily i was blown away by it and was like i want to
02:03do that i was so captivated by angela bassett's performance that i thought that angela bassett
02:09and tina turner were actually the same person i remember watching one of her episodes for the
02:13first time and i dragged my parents from the kitchen and put them to the tv screen and was like look so
02:21when the movie came out my mother dragged me to the movie theater and i was enamored i was mesmerized
02:30her performance touched me so much it was like i was a fly on the wall look at how beautiful and
02:36transparent and raw and rugged she is look at what our people can do one of the producers that really
02:42inspired me into wanting to become a creative executive is lily burns ten years ago when i
02:48watched the social network it turned my life upside down i've been inspired by patrick ian polk's
02:54noah's ark lisa nishimura at netflix i love her work everything she touches
02:59is full of empathy compassion it has a lot of heart i really admire the ability to create
03:05something that resonates through different phases of a black woman's life that's why i started doing
03:09this to create heart an actor who inspired me to pursue my career would be denzel washington first
03:14figure that really inspired me to get into creative development was isa ray we had an hbcu on our tv in
03:21our living rooms in our homes that show made me want to go to an hbcu i think of the deborah martin
03:26chases of the world working on classic movies like cinderella with whitney and brandy i realized
03:33then that if i wanted to see myself on screen my stories represented that i needed to be the
03:39person to tell those stories i remember having a moment i was like i'm a latino queer girl from miami
03:44who is doing that that's like me till i saw terrell mccraney's moonlight and it shattered my world because
03:50of my love for crooklyn i remember learning that you could turn over a vhs and on the other side it
03:57would have the production company or the director screenwriter and all of the credits this is
04:02something i can do and i'm literally sitting in the place that can teach me how to do it
