00:00Believe in yourself, stay true to who you are, and if you think about something you
00:03want to do, just go for it.
00:05Because nothing is stopping you.
00:08Hey y'all, it's Marce Martin and this is Essence Uncovered.
00:18I don't necessarily deal with the pressures of even being a child actor or just the things
00:23that I do in general, because I'm just a teenage girl at the end of the day, so I do the same
00:28regular stuff, so I hang out with my friends, but also I just film and be on camera most
00:34of the time for a living.
00:35So I really just don't stay in that mindset because I know my mind will go crazy if I
00:39think like that.
00:50I don't necessarily block haters out because I don't let the haters get to me.
00:53When I post something, I don't look at the comments.
00:55That's the best thing for self-care as well, because I know a lot of kids my age will get
00:59twisted up in likes, comments, and what other people think, and honestly at the end of the
01:04day, it doesn't care what other people think.
01:06It really all depends on yourself and what you feel confident in, and yeah, I just don't
01:12worry about that.
01:17I feel like with me, I always keep my purpose in anything that I do, because for the past
01:25couple of years being in the industry, I basically, I pitched little when I was like nine or ten,
01:32and I started on Black-ish around that same time, so I've kind of just grew and matured
01:37more with the idea of being in this space.
01:41So I never really got to see what it was without it, and with me, I always kept the same mindset.
01:47I don't really know, honestly, what it feels like to not be seen in a certain way, because
01:55I always try to keep that mindset of, yes, I'm here, creativity, creative mindset, and
02:02then just build my own lane from that, and I'm super blessed for my friends and family
02:07that support me, because they are the reason that I don't necessarily focus on that, because
02:13I usually just see it as regular life, normal, good vibes, and all of that, and I'm super
02:18blessed to actually have that mindset, and especially with me being 16 now, I'm glad that I get to
02:24learn the lessons that I learn now so I can set myself up for the future.
02:40My advice for Black girls that want to break into the industry themselves, or any industry
02:45that they want to be a part of, is believe in yourselves.
02:48Be confident in who you are and what you want to do, and honestly, you only live once, and
02:53I feel like that's what 2020 really showed us, too, because we've regretted so many things
03:01throughout our years, and we've been forced inside our houses, you know, and a lot of people
03:07may be like, man, I wish I did this or I did that, because we don't know when we're going
03:11to get back to that lifestyle, and I think that's the scary thing of it all, so I would
03:15just say, believe in yourself, be confident, and do whatever you want to do, honestly.
03:21If you're at home, there's so many things you can do at home, I mean, you can make clothes,
03:26you can make your own movies at home, you can start somewhere, and then, surprisingly,
03:32get wherever you want to be in, like, just a couple years, or whatever you do, but really,
03:36believe in yourself, stay true to who you are, and if you think about something you want
03:40to do, just go for it, because nothing is stopping you.
