Nash appeared at the 2018 ESSENCE Festival Empowerment Stage where she shared gems about her journey in acting and being a woman of color in Hollywood.

00:00Sometimes I'll do interviews and the person will say, well, there's you, you're on television,
00:07and then you got Viola and you got Kerry Washington.
00:11I mean, diversity box checked.
00:14That's three.
00:15And I'm like, wait a minute, everybody calm down.
00:19You know, there's a lot more stories of women of color that have not been told yet,
00:24are yet to be forthcoming.
00:26But I think the way it changes is that when you have a show that is successful,
00:31that is led by a person of color, then they say, oh, well, we can do it again.
00:36Like Black Panther, like, you know, Selma, like, you know what I mean?
00:40You go on and on, being Mary Jane and how to get away with murder and scandal and claws.
00:46And it's like, oh, those are successful?
00:48Then we can recreate it and keep it going.
00:51But the world is bigger than just black and white women.
00:53You know, there's a lot of women whose stories are not being told,
00:57and I'm hoping to see a shift even in that.
