00:00I have Kat Graham. I have Kat Graham.
00:07I'm so excited to be here.
00:10It's such a beautiful, beautiful, beautiful carpet, beautiful people
00:14celebrating black women in music.
00:16I'm one of them.
00:18I know, you know, people, hey, Kat Graham is also a singer.
00:22Yeah?
00:23Yeah, I'm really excited.
00:24I'm dropping a single in March.
00:26I took a couple years break because I've been doing Vampire Diaries
00:31and I'm really excited because my first while we've been doing rehearsals
00:35and finishing the album, I've been able to partner with Degree for the Grammys,
00:39which are coming up on Sunday.
00:41So we've been looking for game-changing performances,
00:43what makes a performance game-changing, and it's been really exciting.
00:47So I'm going to be watching as a fan but also as somebody who wants to take their music
00:52to the next level and I'm looking at all these incredible artists like Let Us See
00:55and all these amazing, beautiful women that do inspire me
00:58and I want to see what they're going to do on Sunday.
01:00Nice.
01:01So Kat, you know, when you started thinking, you know,
01:04I'm going to also pursue acting, I'm also going to pursue my music,
01:07who do you think are or who is the woman that most influenced you in terms of singing?
01:13Singing?
01:14I really like kind of huskier voices.
01:18I like people that have a bit of a darker tone.
01:22I really like Christina Aguilera and Adele and Nicole Scherzinger.
01:26In terms of career, I really love Janet Jackson.
01:28You know, she also started off on a TV show and signed to A&M Records
01:32and did the dancing, singing, acting thing and no one faulted her for it.
01:36So I look to different women, different black women for inspiration all the time.
01:41Nice. Who would you say, I've been daring to ask people this all night,
01:45who would you say is the most influential black woman in the last 45 years in music?
01:49In the last 45 years?
01:50See, I was about to give you Josephine Baker.
01:52I was about to give you all these incredible people.
01:54I mean, I really like to focus on, when I get inspired,
01:58I like to focus on the women that kind of set the stage so that we could be here today.
02:02So I'm really inspired by different people from the past, more archive artists.
02:10And I like to go to the source to find my inspiration, you know.
02:14And then sometimes I get inspired by the boys, a little James Brown inspiration right now with the funk.
02:19But there's just so many incredible artists.
02:23And I really feel like, especially with all these incredible films that are coming out,
02:28they're getting to showcase a bit more like what's happening with Selma and Lettuce doing that.
02:34And I'm really excited to see this new movement happening in a grander scale, I think is what's happening.
02:43Love it. We're excited to hear the album and the single.
02:46You said it's coming out in the next couple of months?
02:47March 10th.
02:48March 10th.
02:49March 10th.
02:50All right. Thank you, Kat. Enjoy yourself.
02:52August 10th.
02:53March 11th.
03:03.
