00:00Now it's the Oscars so white and I'm thinking about the Emmys which do you
00:09feel like the Emmys are a lot more inclusive than the Oscars have been
00:13historically? No. I mean no. If you look at if you go back and I only say that
00:22because today I actually did go back because I was looking to see how many
00:25times Debbie was nominated and I wanted to get my facts correct. If you go back
00:28and you actually look at the number of times someone of color has been
00:34nominated or someone of color has won, it's startlingly sad. The fact that I can
00:42tell you all six African-American women who've been nominated for a Best
00:46Actress Emmy in a Drama, I can tell you all their names and I can tell you that
00:49I've worked with every last one of them is disturbing. And I can tell you that
00:53there have only been seven people of color who've been nominated and the other one
00:57is Rita Moreno and guess what? Just worked with her. So it's not like there's a big
01:02sea of people who've been nominated and I feel like in every category there is a
01:08sense or what I'm fearful of is that there's a sense that you know Viola won
01:13and so everyone will go like okay someone won and we're good because that's what
01:17happened in the Best Male Drama category. Yeah. How do you feel? What do we do now?
01:21You know you're in the industry. As the public what do we do you know most of us are seeing
01:26Oscar So White and being like yes that's true like why are why is it still happening? What are
01:32your thoughts on Oscar So White first of all and then what do we do as people like it's just
01:36we may not have all the power to be in those rooms but what do we do? I don't think I don't
01:41think any of this has to do with award shows like I personally was not very interested in Oscar So White
01:48mainly because I don't think that award shows are the problem the award shows are the result of the
01:55problem the problem really lies in how many people are given jobs in the industry how many people are
02:04given access in the industry which then tells you how many people are let into the Academy and the
02:08industry you know I mean it sort of stems from the beginning of the pipeline versus the end and to
02:14me that when we hit the Oscars we're already at the end of the pipeline it's really about access
02:19yeah I think and I feel like what's beautiful about what's happening right now is that people are
02:25noticing which is great and audiences I mean television audiences are being very clear about
02:30what they want to watch and money talks period and if things like Star Wars are happening and people
02:37are embracing a female action lead and a male and a man of color is the lead leading man then that's what
02:43should be going on money talks and things will get made because people are going to see them and
02:48spending money on them period
