00:00How's everyone doing? Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous, fabulous. Thank you so much
00:07Zuri for that introduction. It's been amazing. Hi, come on over, come on over,
00:13come on over. It's been an amazing three days here at Essence Fest. Is everyone
00:17having a good time still? Yes? Okay, great. I'm really excited to be here. As Zuri
00:21said, my name is Ty Beauchamp. I've had the amazing pleasure and honor of hosting
00:26the Walmart stage all weekend, which is why my voice sounds like this, but that's
00:30quite all right. I'm here on behalf of Walmart and let me introduce two of my
00:35wonderful accomplices today, that's what we call them. This is Dale Dees, hair stylist
00:40and makeup artist extraordinaire. Hello everyone. And Kamala Johnson, makeup artist,
00:46social media maven. Fabulous, and so what we're gonna do right now, I'm calling it
00:52the Beauty Bar War. And I need two participants to come up here and help me
00:58who know their beauty. Let me ask you this first and foremost, who thinks they
01:02know everything about beauty? Who? Somebody out here? Who's a real beauty girl? Why are
01:10y'all being so shy? Well let me say this, if you come and participate with me, I have
01:15amazing gifts for both people who participate, but then the winner is also
01:21going to get a $100 gift certificate to Walmart to go over here to buy
01:26everything that they want at the Walmart beauty and style station. So, do I have
01:32any participants? Okay, oh look, look, everybody's like, now it's like, oh yes, Ty,
01:37you're gonna, oh you want to participate too? Really? Okay. No, I'm, well, I'm open to that.
01:43Okay, lady right here in the Black Girls Rock. Thank you, come on up.
01:49Oh, now y'all making it hard for me when I start talking about gift cards and such. I love it.
01:57Come on, right here, sit with the, with the, with the, this one, this one right here. Sorry, yes.
02:02Come on, ask her to split it with you. How about that? Come on up. All right, perfect. I'm gonna have, you have a seat here.
02:08Yes, you're gonna have to talk too. Okay. All right. Hi. Welcome. I'm wonderful. Thank you. So, you have a seat there.
02:15What's your name? Alicia. Alicia. Can we turn Alicia's mic up just a little bit? Alicia, where are you from?
02:20Dallas. Dallas, Texas in the house. Hi, Alicia. Okay, and what's your name, beautiful? Cheryl. And Cheryl gave me all the sass in the world.
02:29Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Let's put this mocks on. Cheryl, where are you from? New York. I've met you at the Cecil.
02:36You are so beautiful. Aw, thank you so much. Well, you better say that into the mic if you're gonna talk about how beautiful I am.
02:42I'm from New York, and I met her at the Cecil, and she was so kind and beautiful.
02:46Thank you, because if you're gonna talk about me being beautiful and kind, you have to let all the people here show up. Thank you so much.
02:51Yeah, I go to the Cecil a lot, you know, because it's down the street from my church. Okay.
02:55So, that's one of the reasons why I go. I'm gonna go have a seat over here, and we're gonna play this. Now, I don't want any cheating. Okay.
03:03We're not gonna cheat during the beauty bar war, okay? But I'm gonna provide a few questions. This seat is low, sorry. I'm a tall one.
03:12I'm gonna provide a few questions, and then I'm gonna expect each of you, whoever has the answer and knows the answers, to raise their hand.
03:20Okay. Kamala and Dale, I'm gonna need your help in helping me identify who really had their hand up first.
03:26Because we don't have a buzzer. Okay? Okay.
03:29I need your help, too. And how it's gonna go is we're gonna ask the question, we're gonna answer, the person's gonna provide the answer,
03:37and then I'm gonna provide the actual answer if the other person doesn't know.
03:40Okay. So, Wisha Rogers, here, from One Solution, is gonna help me keep tally of who actually wins.
03:46Okay. We have about ten questions, is that correct? Five. Okay. So, this is gonna be rather painless.
03:52And then my lovely accomplices are gonna help us really understand how it works, okay?
03:56Okay. Dale, we ready? We're ready. Are we ready?
03:59I think so. Okay. Okay. Let's see. Question is, now you know I'm a former beauty editor, right?
04:10So, I started out as a beauty editor, so this is my thing, even though people think that I'm a real fashionist style girl, which I am,
04:16but I love beauty, so beauty is my obsession. All right. What is the proper way to cleanse your face?
04:25Listen, I'm gonna give you multiple choice. I think I'm making it way too easy.
04:29Up and down. A. B. In a circular and upward motion. C. Back and forth. D. It doesn't matter.
04:41I saw the hand go up over here first, right? Okay. Okay. I'll say B. Circular upward motion.
04:48What was that again? B? C. Yeah. In a circular and upward motion.
04:52Ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
04:56My sound effects are awful, and I know that. But that, you're absolutely right. So, we have one there.
05:01Dale, why don't you show us exactly how to do this and talk to us about what you're using to do this.
05:05We're gonna, do you have makeup on? I do. Okay. So, we're not gonna remove your makeup.
05:09We're just gonna play play. So, Kamala, why don't you take, this is play play beauty war right now.
05:15So, I have in my head an Olay Gentle Clean Facial Cloth. It's really, really simple.
05:23So, one of the main reasons why you want to go in a circular upward motion is because when you pull your face down,
05:29you get wrinkles so much faster. And it also really helps with the blood flow.
05:35So, when we say that, we mean going like this and up, this way and up, this way and up, because you want to lift.
05:43You don't want to pull anything down. I know you heard your parents say when you were younger,
05:48if you frown, you make those faces, your face gonna stay like that.
05:51Well, there's a little bit of truth to that. So, we want to go in a circular upward motion.
05:57Perfect. Thank you so much. So, let me just tell you, if you've been washing your face like, uh, you're doing it the incorrect way.
06:04So, now we know exactly how to do it. And I love these products and these cleansing cloths.
06:08And I actually use them because I'm a big believer in kind of two-steps cleansing.
06:12So, I use a cloth because I wear so much makeup for work, obviously.
06:16And I like to remove the makeup. And then I use a liquid cleanser to wash afterward because I believe in a two- or three-step process for cleansing.
06:24So, thank you so much for that tip. All right. Question number two.
06:28I need your help in identifying. Let me finish the question. Thank you.
06:34What is the difference between a BB and a CC cream?
06:38So, what is the difference between a BB cream and a CC cream?
06:42A. CC cream is a color corrector and BB is a blemish cream.
06:47B. There is no difference. C. CC is a light foundation. B is a tint lotion.
06:54D. BB is a setting cream. And CC is a color corrector.
06:59I did it. Okay. A.
07:02You're, oh my god, these are real beauty girls. I want to do them.
07:05But we're really having a beauty work. You're absolutely right, Cheryl.
07:08A is the answer. CC cream is color corrector and BB is blemish cream.
07:13Let's talk about it, y'all. Absolutely.
07:15So, I'm going to use the CoverGirl Queen collection CC cream.
07:20It is also oil-free. So, this is an amazing product.
07:23You would want to use this when you want a little bit more coverage.
07:27This is going to give you the coverage that you're looking for if you're running late for work,
07:32but you have a pimple here, pimple there, or, you know, something like that.
07:35You want a little bit more coverage. I'm just going to add a little pea-sized portion.
07:39I'm just going to dab it. Hair all over.
07:44And so, this is great for the beach. This is great if you are just going to, you know, chill with the girls.
07:49This is a full foundation. Again, this is just a very light option to foundation.
07:58Yep, absolutely. And so, during the summer months especially, you don't want anything too heavy on your skin.
08:06But the other great thing about this is that it actually provides added benefits outside of the tint to your skin tone.
08:12So, I love that. And those colors are really great for both of them.
08:15Absolutely.
08:16And it's very, very easy to blend. The thing is that you don't need very much of this.
08:19A little goes a long way. Okay? So, if you're a minimalist and don't really like to wear a lot of makeup, this is what you need.
08:25Again, this is the CoverGirl Queen Collection CC Cream. And I believe they come in quite a few shades. So, it's really expansive.
08:32They do. These are the few shades that we have here, but there are way more than this.
08:36These are just, you know, the middle of the road so that we could accommodate our guests.
08:40But also, this, if you have a couple blemishes, this really evens out the skin tone really, really, really well.
08:47This CoverGirl Queen Collection is awesome. Fabulous, Dale. Thank you.
08:51Okay. Next question, number three. When is the best time to apply moisturizer to the skin?
09:02Let me hear what your answer is. What's your answer? What was your answer?
09:07Morning and night.
09:08Morning and night. Okay. Let me give you the multiple choice.
09:13Multiple choice. A, every five minutes. B, after you dress. C, never in the summer. Or D, after you bath or shower.
09:25You're absolutely right. D, after you bath or shower. So, but that's the best time for actually, for you to apply
09:31moisturization because your pores are open and they're going to receive the moisturization.
09:35And also, one of the things that I say that is ideal to do is that you don't want to fully dry your skin.
09:41You want to keep it a little bit moist. So, it's almost as if though your skin has a mist on it.
09:46And then you apply the hydration. Let's talk about it.
09:48Absolutely. And for the face routine, you want to cleanse, add a toner, and then moisturize.
09:55That is the, that's the way that I suggest that all people cleanse their face.
10:00But I have here the body moisturizing lotion, which is amazing for your skin.
10:05If your pores are wide open, like Ty said, this is actually going to go in and seal in the moisture.
10:11It's really great. So.
10:13And this is the Palmer's Shea Butter Lotion Cream?
10:17This is the Shea Butter Formula, yes. Perfect.
10:19So, how many people just squeeze it out the tube and then like lather it on their skin?
10:24Don't do that. Rub it in, emulsify it first, and then apply it to the skin.
10:30And that way you don't have that excess grease and oil sitting on top of your skin.
10:35So, emulsify it first, warm it up, and then a little bit goes a really long way.
10:39Do you see the shine? It's beautiful.
10:41It feels great. And it smells good.
10:43You know what I even like about that? I mean, honestly, I'm usually in a rush though.
10:46I am definitely the person who like just works it on and just gets it on my body.
10:51But that's the moment for you to obviously just take a moment and just nurture yourself.
10:56Like really luxuriate a little bit and pamper yourself.
10:58So, I like that tip.
10:59Thank you so much for that deal.
11:00You're welcome.
11:01Okay, so now we're two to one.
11:04Alright.
11:05We got this.
11:06Okay, look.
11:07Really?
11:08Okay.
11:09Next question, number four.
11:11What tone of the lip colors...
11:14Wait, what is that?
11:15Let's see.
11:16What is tone of the lip colors of summer 2016?
11:21I think that that question's...
11:23What's the popular color?
11:27Perfect.
11:28I just need to clarify.
11:29So, what is the most popular color for lips for summer 2016?
11:34Blue?
11:35A.
11:36B.
11:37Green.
11:38C.
11:39Bright pinks and oranges.
11:42D.
11:43Black.
11:44You move very fast, girl.
11:47Yes.
11:48You can tell she's from New York City.
11:50Her hands go up so quickly.
11:52C.
11:53What's the answer?
11:54Wonderful.
11:55And actually, you're wearing it.
11:56So, let's talk about this, Dale.
11:58So, although blue is popular right now, the pinks and the oranges and the bright colors
12:05are way more popular, and they're actually in.
12:08And there is nothing wrong.
12:09Even if you have a plain face, putting on a bright color will absolutely change your entire
12:14look.
12:15So, I'm just going to add a little bit of this.
12:17Also, from the CoverGirl Queen collection, this color is called Q730.
12:23Oh, I love that that's the color name.
12:26So, what is great about what you said about using the pop of color?
12:30I'm one of those people that when I'm not working, I try not to wear too much makeup.
12:35So, I would definitely be the person to use the CC cream and then just the pop of color,
12:39and then I put on my sunglasses.
12:40So, that's one of the ways to really look like you have effortless style, right?
12:44So, when you don't feel like applying mascara and doing all of that work, you apply your sunscreen,
12:49you apply your moisturizer, you add your little CC cream, and then you add that pop of color
12:54and get your sunglasses and go.
12:56Also, if you feel like bright colors are not for you, why don't you just take a neutral
13:01lip gloss, apply it to the top of it, and it gives a little shine, but it also mutes the
13:07color a little bit.
13:08Just a little bit.
13:09Yeah.
13:10Just a little bit.
13:11So, you can still be in trend without feeling uncomfortable.
13:14Fabulous.
13:15And because we're going to actually have a tie back, break them.
13:20Alright, we're going to move on to our next question, number four.
13:23What is the best way to receive a natural summer glow?
13:27Okay.
13:28A, toss water on the face.
13:30B, apply baby oil on the face, or to the face.
13:34C, use bronzer and a natural shadow color palette.
13:38Or, D, all of the above.
13:41C.
13:42C, ding, ding, ding, ding, ding.
13:44You're absolutely right.
13:45Use bronzer and a natural shadow color palette.
13:47Okay, why don't you talk about this, Dale?
13:49So, can you open that for me, please?
13:51I just moisturize with my wonderful shade butter lotion.
13:53Exactly.
13:54That makes it a lot more difficult, and I don't want to break another nail.
13:57Here we go.
13:58Thank you so much.
13:59So, as we know, I know we've all seen the YouTube tutorials where highlighting is like the
14:04major thing, but once you've added your CC cream, and you want a little bit more of a natural glow,
14:11just take a fluffy brush of your choosing, and add it to the apples of the cheek.
14:19And this will give you a really nice J-Lo glow instantly, like you've been at the beach tanning.
14:26That is pretty.
14:27And this is the Milani Baked Bronze color.
14:31And I think they have several shades, and one of the things that's always key about picking the right bronzer
14:36is that you want to find a bronzer that has your natural undertone, so because most of us are brown,
14:41you want to go for something that has a little bit more of a golden or bronze undertone,
14:45opposed to a pink.
14:46If you're more fair-skinned, then you can go for a pinker undertone.
14:49But you want the shade to be a little bit deeper than your natural shade, your natural coloring,
14:54so it actually picks up.
14:55And one of the tricks I love actually to do, Dale, is I apply a little bit on my forehead,
15:00right down here to the T-zone in the tip of the nose, and really what you want to do,
15:05is on the highest point of your cheekbone, and up, and outward.
15:10So a lot of people, sometimes they apply too much of the highlighter to the apple of their cheek,
15:15and then it looks a little bit too shiny.
15:17Exactly.
15:18So you want to do the highest point on the apple of your cheek, and sweep it outward.
15:22And if you want to add a little dimension to your nose, I'll just take my finger, and just rub it down just like that.
15:28If you don't have, you know, all your brushes handy, it just gives her face an instant lift.
15:34And I love that because it adds dimension.
15:36Absolutely.
15:37And now you look like you've come from the beach. How about that?
15:40We love that.
15:41Flawless.
15:42Okay, I have a bonus question.
15:44And this actually is going to be the tiebreaker, am I correct?
15:47You're keeping score two and two.
15:49Okay.
15:50So, no actually, we have two more questions.
15:53What are the key factors to healthy dark skin beauty for the summer?
16:00So skin of color, what are the key factors to healthy skin?
16:05One, water.
16:07A, water.
16:08B, sunscreen.
16:10C, eating fresh fruit and vegetables.
16:13D, plenty of sleep.
16:16Or E, all of the above.
16:19All of the above.
16:20You're absolutely right, Cheryl.
16:21You're right.
16:22So, the fact of the matter is that you want to drink lots of water.
16:25You want to stay hydrated.
16:26And the other important fact that a lot of women of color sometimes fail to remember is that even though we have melanin in our skin naturally,
16:34we all need sunscreen.
16:35What you have to realize is that melanin in your skin only accounts for about SPF of 4.
16:41So, it's not SPF 15.
16:43It's not SPF 25 or SPF 30.
16:46It's only equivalent to about SPF 4.
16:48So, that means that you should really on a daily basis be using an SPF of at least 30 every single day.
16:53At least.
16:54At least.
16:55And I wanted to mention that Palmer's also has like an even toned sun care cocoa butter moisturizing sunscreen lotion.
17:01And this is an FPF 30.
17:03So, you can also get this in the same in Walmart as well.
17:07And it's around this area where the cocoa butter lotion is.
17:10And like she said, I have two girlfriends that got sunburned two weeks ago.
17:15Wow.
17:16So, they were like, I don't need sunscreen.
17:19And they're paying the price for it today.
17:21So, make sure that you use sunscreen, please.
17:23And we also have some water here just to show you from Walmart as well, Dasani, and Walmart fresh foods as well.
17:31And your local Walmart, they not only have all of the supplies that you need for your home and for back to school and for daily use, but they also have fresh foods there as well.
17:39So, beauty starts inside out.
17:42It's about sleeping well.
17:43It's about your diet.
17:44It's about you getting proper rest.
17:46So, even though we all do so much, make sure you're getting the rest.
17:49And we hope that you've enjoyed this session.
17:52Thank you so very much.
17:53Yes.
17:55Thank you so much.
17:56So, we have two prizes for each of you.
18:01And then the winner, Cheryl, you will get your $100 gift certificate to go shopping over here at the Walmart food bar.
18:07Thank you so much.
18:09Thank you for coming.
18:10Everyone have a good rest of the time here at Essence Fest 2016.
18:13Hi, my love.
18:14And thank you so much.
18:15Thank you so much.
18:17You're welcome.
18:18Take that from me.
18:19Sure.
18:20Yeah.
18:23Nice to meet you ladies.
18:30Thanks, miss you kind of share a lot of worlds.
18:35Feel great.
18:36We can actually enjoy today that we can do this tomorrow.
18:39We just want to thank you for your time.
18:41You can enjoy today.
18:42Thank you so much.
18:43Thanks, doin' all.
18:44Thanks, buddy .
