00:00And your parents are from Ghana?
00:05Yeah, Ghana, West Africa.
00:07And so, you know, we often talk here in the office about whenever you're a parent, you're
00:10first generation, that you're expected to be a doctor, a lawyer, an accountant.
00:15Right, right.
00:16Which is real.
00:17What was it like when you came to your parents to say, I want to be an actor?
00:19I didn't have, like, that Peter Parker moment.
00:22I'm ready for the, you know.
00:24It was very gradual.
00:25We did TV and we did print work and modeling stuff, like, when we were younger.
00:30It was three of us, three little chocolate babies, my mom running around.
00:33So it progressed to, like, commercials.
00:35And then as I got older, it progressed to TV and film.
00:37And it was more of a decision around, like, 17, 18.
00:40So I would say, like, the last four years of my life has been very, very adamantly, like,
00:45in that trajectory.
00:46But they support completely.
00:49I mean, when I say support, they break all cliches.
00:53Like, they support it.
00:54And, you know, just realistically, my pops still has that one foot in the door where it's, like,
00:59you know, make sure that education's on point.
01:01Make sure you know how to talk.
01:03Make sure, you know, make sure everything's on point because you can't get lost in the
01:06hype.
01:07But that never really stopped him from still supporting and backing, even though he's a
01:11little apprehensive, you know.
01:12And how do you stay grounded with all of this going on around you?
01:15My family.
01:16I think that's really the key factors.
01:19Just remembering where I came from, remembering why I'm in this industry or why I do what I do,
01:24which is just to connect, you know.
01:26So it's like talking to you right now.
01:28I don't know you. I've never met you.
01:29But I get to sit here, look in your eyes, talk to you, and actually vibe on a level that I wouldn't be able to do from my bedroom in L.A.
01:36if I didn't do Queen Sugar.
01:37Right.
01:38So this whole thing is just about connecting.
01:40And as long as I remember that, there's really no place to go.
01:44I can't get high up there.
01:46You know what I mean?
01:47I'm grounded.
01:48I'm here just to connect.
01:49So that's what we're going to do, you know.
