00:00Now, I have to ask you, there's so many women in this room of influence and power and idols,
00:07and we talk a lot here at Essence about black girl magic.
00:10What does that mean to you?
00:12You know, it's so many different things that it means to me.
00:15I think in my experience of being a black person, a black woman, and knowing the history,
00:18that's where I get my strength from, and that to me is magical.
00:21You know, some people can look at that as a negative thing,
00:23but to me the history of black people is the most beautiful and astonishing thing to me in the world,
00:27to see how far we've come and where we've been, and, you know, that's the magic to me as a black woman, I feel like,
00:32to have that inner pocket of strength.
00:34No matter where I go through, I can look back and know that I'm going to be okay because of those before me.
00:38Yeah, that was so well put.
00:39Oh, thank you.
00:39That's so beautiful.
00:40And what brings you back to black women in Hollywood year after year to this event?
00:45Well, because we get to be here and congratulate each other.
00:47You know, I think people might assume that we get to see each other more often than we do,
00:50but we're all out here grinding and, you know, working the pavement, so we don't get to see each other that often.
00:55So when we're here, we get to connect, and we also get to say, when we're working together, girl.
00:59Right.
