00:00Hey everybody, Janelle Snowden here with Teddy Riley and Dougie Fresh, who completely annihilated the stage last year at the Essence Festival.
00:07If you weren't there, you played yourself, but guess what? You have another opportunity to redeem yourself because they're coming back.
00:14What's up, New Orleans? Essence in the house.
00:18You perform all over, but I'm sure there's some shows you do where you're like, I know I killed that.
00:23What did you walk off stage thinking last year?
00:26Come on! Come on!
00:27It's hard to explain. It's more of a spiritual thing, you know what I mean?
00:31It's like I know his spirit and he knows mine and there's no ego in it.
00:39I walked the stage saying, we jumped him. And we won.
00:44Like in the projects! Like in the projects!
00:47Like in the projects.
00:48Let me clear my throat!
00:49It was just really good because it was so many people. That was like a moment to remember.
00:56You doing this Essence Festival is one of the most special times in my life.
01:02In front of these 80,000, you are my brother.
01:07My favorite moment, really quick, was when Dougie, he did the thing and started counting and counting.
01:16He was counting it all the way down.
01:26Until his last breath.
01:28Give it up for Dougie Frye!
01:35And I'll call it the Michael Jackson model.
01:38Why do you call it that?
01:39Because he had everybody on their feet at the same time, roaring.
01:45Teddy, you have produced so many hits and you performed quite a few of them last year.
01:49Did you save any for this year? Like what is going to be different?
01:53You had so many guest stars.
01:54Can you give us a little hit of maybe some of the new ones?
01:58Well, Doug and I, Pharrell and Timbaland, we have some surprises.
02:03Wait, wait, wait, wait. You got to build that up more.
02:05You guys are dropping these epic names and you're like, oh yeah, Doug and Timbaland.
02:10You, Dougie Fresh, Pharrell and Timbaland are gracing the stage this year as part of your set.
02:16And then before us, you have Jermaine Dupri.
02:19And then after us, you have the person.
02:21We're honoring him.
02:22And he's been the person who's been at Essence the most.
02:27It's Frankie Beverly.
02:29So we're honoring him and it's going to be a real, real party.
02:33Are y'all ready?
02:35This time, this time, this time.
02:37We're planning it at least two months before.
02:40And we have the rehearsals and everything for two weeks.
02:43And this time, because last time was spontaneous?
02:45Last time I did all the rehearsals.
02:47Right, right, right, right.
02:49Without the principles and then I gave everybody a script.
02:52I said, here.
02:53That's what we're doing.
02:56This is what we're going to do.
02:57We're going to improv.
02:58We're going to figure to make it.
03:00We're going to do all the things above.
03:01And that's how that show came about.
03:03It's going to be a little bit of that, but a lot of practicing with the band.
03:09I'm scared.
03:09If you're doing two months planning and you did that with nothing, I mean.
03:13We have with the rehearsals and Doug and I are going to really put our heads together
03:18because I would like to see Pharrell on the stage with Rumpshaker rapping my life.
03:26Wow.
03:27Timbaland with a little beatbox might be cool too.
03:30Let me see what he do.
03:34A little competition maybe?
03:35Nah, more collaboration.
03:37I created it, so I'm competing with myself.
03:41It's like in the mirror.
03:42Doug B-Box.
03:44I'm doing Rumpshaker and Pharrell rapping my rap.
03:48Ready with the one, two, checker.
03:50Because he wrote it.
03:51You really would love to see that.
03:53And that's just my dream.
03:56And most of my dreams come true.
03:58Beautiful thing to be able to say.
04:00Make some noise for the unbelievable, talented, gifted, Shadim Raleigh.
04:06Any parting words for the Essence Festival audience from me?
04:10Be there.
04:10Be there 2-5.
04:122-5.
04:13You got to be there and you got to see what's about to go down.
04:18You heard him.
04:19Go grab your tickets at EssenceFestival.com.
04:22New York down, but you're Virginia.
