00:00I am living my best life in Grenada this is my first time in Grenada and I am blown away
00:28this place is so beautiful like it's literally like a postcard I know a lot
00:34of people say that but it is truly paradise Grenada was just really
00:40magical and I say that because we got to work here and play here you know it's
00:46I think sometimes we can be very insular and not here this is open and
00:52beautiful and family I'm a girl I'm into passion I'm into beauty like I want to
00:58see what the local market is and buy the goods and support the local artisans it
01:03was really cool to see how they have them set up and they're very open air we
01:07really wanted to make sure that we got items that were actually made on this
01:12island got to get a great handmade sandal in Grenada oh look at these ones I like
01:16this color I love these ones with like the wrap that's the kind of stuff that
01:21you want to bring back to really remind you of Grenada it's an island so you
01:27know it's not like you're gonna have these like major highways and that's the
01:30beauty of it you don't want that these roads are bumpy and and curvy and like
01:36the altitude my ears are popping at one point and then you come all the way down
01:40the mountain on the other side they're a lot of fun to me I like a roller coaster
01:45oh my gosh I learned so much Grenadian slang I love it and I love how they
01:51communicate with each other I've learned that if you really want to emphasize
01:55things you say three times we say oh you're rich rich and they're like they
01:59add another one they're like you're rich rich rich that's stupid stupid stupid I
02:03just love the slang here I think it's really also indicative of later like fun
02:08loving like easygoing spirit so you actually make this hot sauce I'm like
02:13just such a sucker for food when I go and travel like that's the one thing I
02:17research first and I heard that they have this dish here called oil down and I
02:23just I knew I could we could probably get it at a restaurant somewhere but when
02:27Yvette came through and and had chef Kennedy create us a home-cooked meal I'm
02:34Kennedy Roberts from Montparnasse Grenada today we're doing a vegan oiler when you
02:41do the regular one you tend to use salted meat and salt fish and we already have a
02:46pot done with everything in it we tend to use a lot of the local chicken that we
02:51know at least it grew up right around the corner from us here but we're gonna
02:54prepare a vegan oil dung oil dung is Grenada's national dish the main
03:00ingredient is breadfruit they would tell you cannot have an oil dung unless it has
03:04breadfruit in it once you create the sauce you pack the pot and you put a range
03:09of things in it so tonight we're gonna put breadfruit green bananas yam pumpkin
03:15christophine broccoli carrots string beans okra and callaloo I knew that like I
03:24wasn't gonna get the watered-down version of like their traditional dish that
03:27everyone can do and you just don't know who does it like the best we got it from
03:31one of the best chefs on the island in his home from the pot he cooks his family
03:36food and thank you for making my vegan one I love you it felt really nice and the
03:48food was banging it's so good I would love to recreate that for my husband and
03:52son so we're staying at the Silver Sands Resort and it is stunning the longest pool
04:00in all of the Caribbean which it's crazy to say because they're probably some
04:05really major amazing pools in the Caribbean the manager when we first
04:09walked in said if you could swim the length of it under the water you could
04:13have like free drinks for your whole stay I mean it's impossible but I like a
04:16good challenge so I tried to do that but to no avail
04:21so I was definitely indulging and one two three four five six seven eight nine ten
04:29cocktails while I was here one of which is called the writer's block which us
04:34being journalists some you know editors and journalists down here was kind of
04:37cool too because it's like yeah writer spot like let me drink this and like be
04:42inspired I've been to Bali I've been to St. Croix I've been to Jamaica and
04:47Grenada is definitely my like number one or two like island now it is just so
04:53beautiful and that water is like healing thank you so much thanks for joining us
05:00in Grenada I am going to enjoy my last few hours here so goodbye to you and
05:07hopefully I'll meet you on the beach at some point soon
