00:00We say this with love, but what is going on with Erykah Badu?
00:06Now, Erykah Badu is my boo.
00:07But she first tweeted about how girls should wear long skirts to prevent boys and men from sexualizing them.
00:13And now in a cover story for Fader magazine that covered everything from her writing process to social media,
00:17she gave this doozy of a quote.
00:20We can organize like a mother when police beat us up,
00:23but can we organize to stop black-on-black crime or poor-on-poor crime?
00:28Because, you know, poor is the new black.
00:30You don't have to be black now.
00:31Huh?
00:32What say you?
00:33Are we slaying or shading?
00:35And what would you be slaying or shading on the count of three?
00:37Let me see your panels.
00:38One, two, and three.
00:41Shade.
00:42Wait, are you on the fence?
00:42Oh, there's always one that says to slay.
00:44Here we go.
00:45And we got slayed and slayed.
00:47Okay, come on, talk to me.
00:48Why are you on the fence?
00:49Oh, we're slaying?
00:50Okay, I'll go with the group then.
00:51I'm kind of on the fence.
00:52Don't succumb to peer pressure.
00:53You can still come back if you don't on group team.
00:57What are you slaying?
00:58I mean, obviously that's, you know, that's what rich black people and white people say.
01:03You know, that's not something you say when you're...
01:05What, about the poor on poor?
01:06Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:08So you feel like she's out of pocket with her comment or...
01:10I mean, she has a right to her opinion.
01:12She wrote Call Tyrone.
01:13I can't really hate her too much, but yeah, that's not my opinion.
01:18That's your opinion.
01:18Okay, fair enough.
01:19Julie, what are you slaying?
01:20I just think that I love how outspoken she is.
01:23I really love Erica for standing up for what she believes in.
01:27I, you know, I definitely am on the fence about this comment in particular, but I think that
01:33her just being like a voice of, you know, I don't know, like a voice that's like pushing
01:40conversations and having people talking, I think is important.
01:43And I don't think enough people in her position do it.
01:46Fair enough.
01:47Yeah.
01:47Damon, you look like you got a lot to say on the end over there.
01:49Were you a slay or a shade?
01:50I went with slay.
01:52Okay.
01:53I went with slay.
01:54I think Erica is, you know, she's a champion of the unpopular opinion sometimes.
02:01You know, we get caught up in groupthink and there's things that, but she has some points.
02:05You know, there's certain points to be made with what she's saying there.
02:09You know, I don't know about poor is the new black.
02:12That sounds like a show I wouldn't watch.
02:14I wouldn't watch any of that.
02:15Yeah, but I, you know, I can understand some of the points that she's made.
02:19Kamala, you had something to say?
02:20I felt it.
02:21I felt it too.
02:22I felt it.
02:23You can't go up and then be quiet on S.S. Live.
02:25But black people are worried about black on black crime.
02:28That's the first thing we worry about.
02:29We just have to focus on police on black crime for a little, you know, like if the police
02:34weren't killing the black people, we could focus more on black on black crime.
02:36So I just think that it's like, yeah, no, I don't think that without black people worrying
02:41about that, we wouldn't have had the slavery, the civil rights movement.
02:44You know what I mean?
02:45Yeah.
02:46Reminds me like mother wit, you know, like, you know how like when you, there's certain people
02:49that get a little older, like we're all going to get older and some of our opinions are
02:54going to phase out.
02:55They're not going to be as progressive.
02:56We're not going to update our operating system.
02:58We're going to have our values that we stick to.
03:01So I can understand it.
03:02It feels like somebody that would be in my family that says, no, that you know what they
03:06need to be, you know?
03:07Right, right, right, right.
03:08And I'm not mad at stepping out there, like to your point, step out there and own this
03:12different opinion.
03:13Fair enough.
