00:00Chris Brown is back at it with a new controversy.
00:05Breezy just released the trailer to his upcoming not-so-anticipated documentary, Welcome to
00:11My Life.
00:12According to what we've seen in the trailer, the film will follow the rise of the pop
00:15star to the top of the charts in his fall after his assault on Rihanna in 2009.
00:20And in his words, he went from being, quote, kind of like America's sweetheart to public
00:24enemy number one.
00:25Mmm.
00:26Chris, Chris, Chris.
00:27But what Chris is really interesting is that the straight-out hate that he's getting on
00:31social media from everyone, mainstream.
00:34New York Magazine called the documentary, and Chris himself, quote, garbage.
00:38Mmm.
00:39Huffington Post accused the singer of just looking for sympathy, and Paper Mag called
00:42the film a, quote, documentary that no one asked for, honey.
00:46Panelists, what are you saying?
00:48Oh, hello, Julie.
00:49Tell us how you really feel.
00:50Slay the shade.
00:51You got shade, shade.
00:53You're on the fence, Julie.
00:54I have a little...
00:55You on the fence, David?
00:56Oh, okay.
00:57Julie, shade.
00:58You threw it up really fast.
00:59What are you shading?
01:00I'm just not here for Chris Brown.
01:02Like, I don't know.
01:03Like, um, that's not to say that I don't listen to his music here and there, but I'm just
01:08saying.
01:09No, no, no.
01:12I don't have any of his music in my iTunes, so let's just put it there.
01:16But I do...
01:17The music's not in the tunes.
01:18I agree with kind of like the popular hate train here that it's just like, it's pandering
01:23for sympathy.
01:24It's like, sir, just take several seats, make your music, that sort of thing.
01:27I think he's still trying to be relevant and look for the, look, I'm a good guy.
01:32And it's like, I just don't want to be reminded of that night in 2009.
01:35Like, just do your music.
01:37Keep it moving.
01:38Like, let's not talk about it anymore.
01:40Um, or let's not rehash it in a way that makes you look good.
01:45Right.
01:46Damien, talk to me.
01:47You had a sh...
01:48I had a shade.
01:49I'm confused with the slate of shade.
01:51I'm not, I'm not into it.
01:53I feel like...
01:54That's a shade.
01:55That's a shade.
01:56That's a shade.
01:57That's a shade, Damien.
01:58Uh, yeah.
01:59Look, I think Chris Brown is as troubled as he is talented, right?
02:03I was just, we were just taping, we were taping on Common Sense yesterday.
02:07And they were playing a new Chris Brown record.
02:10And I couldn't, I was just...
02:12He gets you.
02:13He gets you.
02:14He's a conversation starter because your body is gonna respond to what's going on.
02:18But then it's like, here we go again.
02:22You know, the thing that I just have a problem with is don't recast yourself as a victim of circumstance.
02:29You know what happened.
02:31You know what you did.
02:32You just gotta own it.
02:34Take full responsibility because that is part of your narrative until the end of your career.
02:39Agreed.
02:40Or until you do something to change the narrative.
02:42Well, what can he do to change that narrative?
02:44Okay, okay.
02:45He can own up to the fact that he did it.
02:47But you know what?
02:48I don't think he has to keep rehashing it over and over.
02:51Come on, I'm sorry.
02:52I almost took you down.
02:53I got so excited.
02:54But you had a Slade or a Shade?
02:55What'd you have?
02:56Uh, yeah, I'm Shade.
02:57Shade and I'm...
02:58No, you guys got it.
02:59No, no, no.
03:00I wanna hear...
03:01What's Shaden?
03:02I'm just mad that of all the trailers to watch, we had to watch this one.
03:04Oh, snap.
03:05Magnificent Seven is out?
03:06Why can't we watch that trailer?
03:07That was very Shade.
03:08I'm a Shade.
03:09I'm taking your paddle there.
03:11No, but you know, I think he can change the narrative.
03:14Yeah, yeah.
03:15But he has to change it.
03:16And let me ask you a question, though.
03:17Does he have the right to tell his story, though?
03:19Absolutely, yeah.
03:20And we have the right to not listen to it.
03:21Y'all just don't wanna see that story.
03:22Yeah.
03:23Okay, fair enough.
03:24And I also don't wanna see it now.
03:25Like, why now, Chris?
03:26Like, wait for a further time down the road.
03:29Like, it just happened in 2009.
03:31He's seven.
03:32He's young.
03:33It's okay.
03:34I need to hear it right now.
