00:00What about our thoughts on the conflicts we have within our own community?
00:06How can we stand against other communities, if you will, or stand up for our culture if we're battling internally?
00:12I mean, it starts at home, and a lot of this stuff is projected on social media.
00:16You know, you see these pictures that people put up, you know, this light-skinned girl, or this dark-skinned girl, or this brown girl.
00:22We're segregated in our own color, and it's sickening.
00:25You know, it should just be this black girl, or this African-American girl, and this white girl, this Asian girl.
00:30It shouldn't be like, oh, this dark-skinned Asian girl, or this dark-skinned, like, why are we doing that?
00:34And I've been guilty. I'm not going to lie to you. I've been guilty of it. I see the ramifications.
00:38Oh, what'd you have to say about a dark-skinned girl?
00:40Uh-uh. I'm just asking.
00:43That's not my inbox. That's his inbox.
00:46I'm not saying.
00:48What'd you have to say about a dark-skinned girl?
00:54What'd you have to say, Lo?
00:55I didn't have, I have nothing against dark-skinned girls.
00:57You better been called Kanye.
00:58Got a light-skinned girl.
01:00I actually got a dark-skinned fran look.
01:03And what it is, is like, from, you know, past, you know, recent years, the girls that I've dated have been, you know, a little bit lighter.
01:12But I think that's because my mom's light-skinned.
01:14You know, mom's a little bit lighter.
01:15So, it's nothing against, I love dark-skinned, and they're beautiful, but it's a preference.
01:19And that's, it's not just me, it's with a lot of people.
01:21And you've been addressed by that?
01:23I've been addressed by that plenty of times.
01:24Plenty of times.
01:25But women have that, too.
01:26I just like, I want a chocolate n-word.
01:28Yeah.
01:29And it's like, well, what's wrong with the brown skin?
01:31But I mean, even the All-Star game this weekend, like, after all the guys on Saturday won, you know, Klay Thompson.
01:37Yeah, yeah, yeah.
01:38Kid Gordon and the other dude.
01:39Yeah.
01:40They were like, team light-skinned took over this weekend.
01:42Woo!
01:43I'm on my light-skinned way, man.
01:44So it's like, the undertone of it is just projected in any format that we have.
01:47And it's, it's chickening, almost.
01:48So why do you think we do that as a community?
01:50Why do we do that?
01:51I mean, it started all the way back in the days of slavery.
01:54True.
01:55But why do we continue it?
01:56I think it's ingrained in our minds.
01:58It's the same way that racism is still alive today.
02:00We haven't really moved forward from that.
02:02So like, people say that we've progressed because we have a black president, but obviously we haven't.
02:06We still have black kids getting shot by cops.
02:08So it's something that's ingrained in all of our minds.
02:10And it takes more than just like, talking about it amongst each other.
02:15You know, we need to have a larger conversation with all races present.
02:18And it needs to be something that's taught in schools.
02:20Where people understand like, this is something that you shouldn't shy away from.
02:23You should talk about it openly.
02:24So that it's not something where when you become an adult, you're like, team light-skinned, team dark-skinned.
02:29Like, you wouldn't even think in that manner.
02:31But that's how we think.
02:32But see, especially if you're going to a mainstream school, they don't know how deep the illness
02:37is in our community in regards to colorism, race, light-skinned versus dark-skinned.
02:42They're barely teaching black history in a coherent way.
02:45Very valid point.
02:46So the fact that you want them to delve deeper and understand the psychosis that divides us
02:51along shades of skin, they can't do that.
02:54It's up to us to fix that problem.
02:56And it's going to take a lot of work.
02:57It's going to take some time.
02:58It's going to take a lot of honesty.
02:59It's going to take a lot of people being like, I'm self-loathing.
03:02I don't like the way I look.
03:04And as a result, I don't like the way you look.
03:06And that's a hard thing to admit.
03:08And that's a very deep conversation.
03:11It's so many different levels.
03:13So many layers.
03:14The physical aspect of it.
03:15You're going to the mental and spiritual aspect of it.
03:18There's so many different things.
03:19Like the social class.
03:20It's so many things top onto that one thing.
03:24You're going to go.
03:25I'm not going to the mental and spiritual aspect.
03:28I'm going to go.
03:30I'm going to go.
03:31And I'm going to go.
03:32I'm going to go.
