00:00All right, I'm here with Common. I want to say Mr. Common. I don't know why.
00:10Come on, don't call me Mr. Common.
00:12I'm sorry. You're just so respectable.
00:15I'm respectful, but I don't want to be called Mr. Common. I'll tell you that much.
00:19Mr. Common. That was silly. I'm sorry.
00:21So Common, you know, you actually, you're getting ready for the Oscars on Sunday.
00:25How does one prepare to go to the Oscars?
00:27Well, you do your best to not be nervous, but that's going to happen.
00:32So really, you just stay present.
00:34Like, you look at all the great things you got going on, being able to come to Essence Black Women in Hollywood.
00:39You come enjoy this. You know, we're performing, so you get ready for that.
00:45But at the same token, you just enjoy it. My mother's flying out with all her friends.
00:49So I'm just enjoying it and trying to really, really be present.
00:54Yeah. Yeah. And, you know, let's talk about Glory, because I heard that you submitted the song.
00:58You were inspired, you know, working on Selma. You were so inspired that you submitted the song.
01:02Well, Ava actually asked us to do a song. And I've, you know, it was like she, while she was busy editing, we gave her, you know, John and I, I called John and we cooked up the song.
01:16And once we had Glory at the first stages, I played it for her. And she was like, oh, okay, this is it. This is, this is it.
01:22But she said, we have to, you know, take it to some next levels. She said, we are the world.
01:26Oh, wow. So I was like, I was like, that's a lot of pressure right there.
01:29No pressure. No pressure, no pressure. But it was, it was a blessing.
01:33And, you know, my experience from Selma is what got me to wanting so much to do something with Glory and do a song for the movie.
01:41We love having you here and we hope to see you again next year and the following year and the year after.
01:45Yes, God willing. I love being here. Thank you all for having me.
