NO MAS COMPETITION IN SOUTH

There will be no mas competition in San Fernando this year.  That's the word from the San Fernando Carnival Committee.

00:32the committee stated that after meeting with san fernando carnival stakeholders on monday

00:36it wishes to formally advise all stakeholders band leaders cultural practitioners sponsors

00:42the general public the competitive component of san fernando carnival 2026 has been suspended it

00:51explained that this decision was taken following careful review of the level of funding received

00:56for carnival 2026 which was lower than allocations received in previous years and insufficient to

01:02responsibly support a full competition based carnival product the committee says it has also assessed

01:09current operational costs and the need to ensure that all participating bands and stakeholders are

01:15treated fairly and sustainably the committee emphasized that san fernando carnival 2026 is

01:21not cancelled it says the parade of the bands will proceed as scheduled and the city will once again

01:27come alive with color creativity and culture bands will participate in the parade in the usual manner

01:34but without competition or prize placements for the 2026 season there will be no registration fee for the bands
