00:00you know there's three things that a strong leader should have in their
00:12toolkit first of all I always tell folks that are you know expanding into
00:17leadership roles is to really think about knowing your trade the second
00:22thing I will tell you is to make sure that you focus on your staff and your
00:29group and the people that work for you because what you give to them you get
00:33back from them twofold and the third thing I always tell people to do is to
00:39make sure you're setting your sights on the end game and by that I mean you know
00:44think about where this is all going to end up you know how big is big for you as
00:48a leader and and go for it and I encourage people to really think about what that
00:54road map looks like to get there and to begin to process that and make it
00:59happen you have to take control of it and own it every step of the way I think
01:04sponsors are really a critical part of the transformation or the ladder to
01:11leadership to senior leadership is first of all you're going to need someone to
01:15tell you about the unwritten rules because you know it doesn't exist in a playbook
01:19it doesn't exist anywhere in your training and development so it's amazing
01:24how these sponsors can come in and tell you really some of the unwritten rules
01:29and ways to succeed in an organization sponsors are important also because they
01:35help you form your point of view and you know a good sponsor does two things for
01:41you one they'll mentor you they ought to listen to what's happening in your day to
01:46day life and listen to your the the path that you've charted for yourself but also
01:52a sponsor makes it happen for you that's really different from a mentor so they
01:56ought to open up doors and break down barriers for you and talk your story for
02:00you better than anyone else they should be a huge champion for your success you
02:05know the best advice I was given and it was very early on by one of my toughest
02:09managers is is he reminded me to to make sure that I lead with the open and
02:16honest heart and when you do that all of us follows in your in your wake and so
02:24I've always done that you know it's it's it's helped me with being an open
02:28communicator it's helped me because you know I've been told that I'm very
02:32approachable as a leader and I think you're gonna get the straight story for me
02:36when we interact and I think most people would describe me in that way
