00:00You
00:10Yo, what's up y'all? It's your boy ET look super excited to be a part of the essence festival
00:17Like let me just keep it 100. You know when I was given the topic
00:21You know mental and emotional health, right?
00:25I'm just gonna be real first thing came to my mind me in my 20s
00:28Right me in my 20s. I'm talking about devastated, you know, I'm talking about let down, you know
00:33Like Santa Claus ain't real let down, you know, I'm saying like the tooth fairy ain't real let down
00:38You know, I remember being in my you know, um teens, you know
00:42And then when I was kind of like, you know first jumping into the young adult stage
00:47There are people for real you just look up to right you got relatives that you look up to
00:52You know, I went to college. I went to an HBCU. I went to oak wood
00:55You know, I started going to church and I ain't grew up in church. So I started going to church
00:59You know, I started becoming a part of different, you know functions. I'm telling y'all my mind was just blown. I'm seeing
01:06Leaders, I'm seeing pastors, right?
01:08I'm seeing professors that I look up to
01:11People who are now in the industry whether it be the music industry, whatever like I'm looking at people like yo, they getting it
01:17I'm seeing the husband to wipe the kids
01:20You know, I'm seeing the european vehicles. We go into people's house for dinner. They live in it, you know max
01:27But just like santa claus, I realized santa claus wasn't real
01:30I started to realize, you know, I started seeing people I look up to get divorced
01:35You know, I saw I start people that I look up to I saw people, you know committing suicide
01:39Like like life got real, you know, I'm looking at people who were happy one day, you know in ugly divorces
01:46You know, i'm seeing people get their house repo, you know, they don't have the money that they they acting like they have cars getting repo
01:53Like i'm devastated like flat out i'm in my 20s. Like, you know, 23 24 25 and stuff is starting to you
02:00You know is what was blurry is starting to get real clear like behind the scenes and i'm starting to find stuff out
02:07And i'm just like what when I tell you devastated
02:10I wasn't devastated because I was judging people and couldn't believe things happen to people now
02:16I didn't believe it would happen to the people
02:17I know but I was devastated because I was like
02:20Yo, the the path that I was trying to take like the formula that I was trying to take like I realized
02:26Yo, you might not you know, I'm saying like you might want to you might not want to do that
02:30And I started realizing that people were one-dimensional
02:34Like for real people were one-dimensional and people were building their success on saying
02:39So some people were building it, you know, on professionalism
02:43Some people were building it on, you know, uh being attached to a man or a woman, you know, having a family
02:49Some people were attached to like their house and their cars
02:52Some people were attached to like titles and I and I realized like yo e look if you
02:58Want to literally be happy i'm talking about like a piece that passive all understanding
03:03You know, it's like if you really want that life if you want to live that triple double life
03:07You're gonna have to you're gonna have to do a different e so I want to share three things with you guys real quick
03:12Because listen to me it doesn't matter how much money you make
03:16It doesn't matter what titles you have like it does it doesn't matter what your you know business portfolio is
03:23You know what you have in the bank account?
03:25It doesn't matter what people think about you like really at the end of the day that you have to have this self-actualization
03:32You got to get to a point where
03:35Internally listen to me internally
03:38That you're happy with you, you know
03:40Like no matter what you have the stuff no matter what relationship and I and I started to realize
03:46Like yo eat if you want that life
03:49If you really want what you you dreamed of like what you saw on tv the huxtables
03:54You feel me like what you saw on television if you really want that life leave it to beaver
03:59You know, i'm just being real with y'all like in my mind. I had this picture of what life was like
04:04And it dawned on me at it in my early 20s. It dawned on me
04:08E.T. if you're going to be successful it's got to start within like you gotta you've got to build all of this on a mental and emotional
04:17A foundation kid you can't get caught up in stuff. So I want to share three things. Yep. I want to share three things with you
04:24so the first thing I want to share with you is
04:26Momentum all right momentum listen to me
04:30Apollo 11 all right apollo you're talking about
04:3511 minutes and 39 seconds over a half of the fuel
04:40That was used to take that sucker into the atmosphere
04:44Over a half of it was used in that first 11 minutes and 39 seconds
04:50So so so first and foremost what i'm telling you is that you're gonna need momentum like you got
04:56You need momentum y'all. All right, you need moment. So what what what was my momentum?
05:00I realized et like your fuel
05:03Your fuel is going to have to be something other than stuff
05:07Right, and so I started working on like my spiritual life like flat out
05:12I started working on my spirit and i'm not talking about going to church now. I'm talking about my character
05:17I started focusing on my character. I started focusing on integrity
05:22I started focusing on my values like yo, what do I believe like for real e you know
05:27You you you worried about what your mama think about you you worried about
05:31What your aunts and uncles think about you you worried about what society thinks about you
05:36You you worried about the peer group that you went what you think about you but e you got to build you like eat
05:42That's it's gonna drive you crazy
05:44Like all of these different people and different things is pulling at you. It's gonna drive you crazy. You need an anchor e
05:51In order to be mentally and emotionally at peace. You need an anchor
05:56And so my anchor was my values like what I had to write down. What do you value?
06:02What do you stand for like what's your stabilizer and I realized this is just personal I realized that my stabilizer
06:10Was my relationship with my creator
06:13Right, my stabilizer was my history in terms of where I come from like my people and then my wife
06:19That was my stabilizer. That was my stabilizer
06:22And so I started getting up every single morning for those of you who follow me
06:26You know, I get up at three o'clock in the morning
06:28I started getting up at every every morning at 3 a.m
06:31And I started taking an hour walk and talk with god an hour and then it went to an hour and a half
06:36I start off at six in the morning then went to five in the morning
06:38Then went to four in the morning then went to three in the morning
06:40Why because I realized at three o'clock wasn't nobody up with no cars going by with no dogs up with no animals up
06:46It was just me and my creator alone. What's your stabilizer?
06:49And i'm not suggest like i'm not trying to tell you what your stabilizer is
06:53But i'm saying I realized that the economy ain't stable so how in the world could my
06:58How in the world could my money be my stabilizer?
07:00I started realizing that I worked for michigan state university. They hire and fire that that's not my stabilizer
07:06That's not my anchor. That's not my rock. I had to get a rock
07:10And so it became my god and my wife and I had a routine what fuels you what fuels you
07:16Right then after worship like I would start reading and studying on my own history
07:21Science starting to learn a different language, right?
07:24And so I spent time like really working on my mind, you know, and then I would meditate
07:29I would spend about 30 minutes just in meditation get on my treadmill put a certain type of music on
07:35Or just walk and talk in my basement and just stabilize it your momentum
07:40Don't wake up in the morning and get dressed and go to work
07:43Like that's what you're doing for the industry like that. That's that's your gift that you're using
07:48But what are you doing for you?
07:49Right are you are you uh, once a month, you know, manicure pedicure, you know once a month
07:55I remember starting to go to the country club and I remember getting massages look stabilizers
08:00Right and I remember having uh an accountability group a group of men that I would call every day
08:05And we'd spend 30 minutes to an hour. We're talking about our dreams and our goals and our plans for the day
08:09And when we were going through stuff, we would talk to each other and like i'm going through this as a parent
08:14I'm going through this as a husband. I'm going through this as a black man in america. Help help. What's your stabilizer?
08:21Listen to me apollo 11 used over a half of its fuel in the first 11 minutes and 39 seconds
08:28Your fuel is important. What's fueling you? What's fueling you like what's moving you?
08:34What's what's waking you up? What's getting you going? And if you're spending the majority of your day
08:39Just doing doing doing doing for others as a wife as a husband as a ceo, you know as as a team player
08:45Like whatever if you get all your energy is going to what you're doing and none of it is going to you
08:51It's gonna kill you. So number one is momentum. I want you to think about what's fueling you
08:56What are you doing every day to take care of you self-care you taking care everybody else?
09:01You looking for everybody else? You your husband got what he need your wife got what she need
09:06Your kids got what they need your boss got what he need
09:09Everybody pulling on you and so many directions and that's not the problem
09:13But the problem is you haven't fueled you
09:16You're not taking care. What if you took care of yourself like you took care of your man?
09:19What don't you took care of yourself like you took care?
09:22Your woman what if you took care yourself?
09:23Like you took care of your kids, what do you took care of yourself?
09:25of yourself like you take care of your job all the time you put on your job you're giving them
09:3140 50 60 hours a week and you're giving yourself 30 minutes at best listen to me you cannot build
09:39a a solid foundation you cannot on what you do for others it's got to be some self-care
09:46all right so i told you i'm a man but i get the manicure the pedicure absolutely i'm a man but
09:51i get the massage number two maintenance number two is maintenance now look some of y'all don't
09:56have a problem taking care of certain things but you have a problem with maintaining it you have
10:01a problem with the consistency right so i want you to ask yourself what do you what do you do after
10:06you take that rocket off now look they they were up there for weeks so the rest of the fuel allowed
10:13them to get their voyage taken care of whatever they were discovering or exploring right they had
10:19that taken care and then they were able to get back to houston are you hearing what i'm saying
10:25what are you doing you spend all that money on starting a business you spend all that money when
10:29your children were born buying stuff you spend all all the money on a wedding you didn't spend none of
10:34it on your marriage you spend all that money starting a business but you didn't spend that
10:38money on professional development are you hearing me you spent all that money having kids bringing kids
10:43in the world you didn't spend any time learning how to parent so now i'm asking you what are you
10:48doing to maintain it like it's one thing to get it like it's one thing to get married it's another
10:53thing to stay married it's one thing to have kids it's another thing to have a healthy relationship
10:57with your kids it's one thing to start you know that 70 or 80 percent of businesses don't make it up
11:02to the fifth year but if you can make it past the five year come on so what are you doing to maintain
11:08it what's your daily routine what's your monthly routine what's your yearly routine are you
11:13take listen to me i'm considered one of the best speakers in the world let me tell you what i
11:19wasn't doing i didn't have a vocal coach i had to spend money she said you're about to blow your
11:23voice out you're not gonna have a voice you you got the diaphragm like you got to start speaking from
11:28here you're speaking from your throat what what are you doing to maintain it are you hearing me i had to
11:33get the four-year degree i had to get the master's degree the phd after that i got the uh the disc and the
11:39value and the attribute like constantly at maintenance what are you doing what's your what's
11:44your oil treatment look like you getting your oil change you getting your tires rotated come on you
11:49getting your fluids done you checking your uh uh uh uh transmission or are you just buying the car
11:55and you just gonna run it into the ground listen to me we cannot we cannot stop when it says check
12:02engine light we can't that's it's too late then when the check engine light comes on it's too late
12:08what are you doing to maintain and so listen to me last year was the first year of my life where i
12:14worked six weeks and i took the seventh week off come on you're not hearing me i literally worked six
12:20weeks and took a whole week off why maintenance i gotta give my my soul time to catch up to my body
12:27you see if i gotta give my body time to catch up to my soul i'm constantly running and moving all over
12:31the world listen to me very closely i'll never forget i was doing six on one week off six weeks work
12:37seven week off then then carl who works for the company our videographer carl went back home to
12:43barbados for 30 days i'm like yo we doing 30 days we taking 30 i didn't know we could take 30 days off
12:49let's do it he took 30 days off and the company is still alive we didn't die we we we talked about
12:55it we found a way he took 30 days off his wife his children his mom his dad his brother's family and
13:02they're from barbados with a home in barbados and didn't even stay in the home they rented out an airbnb
13:07with a swimming pool right next to the ocean are you hearing what i'm trying to tell you maintenance
13:12it's not enough to buy it it's not enough to have it what what what are you doing to maintain it and
13:18so guess what in 2020 this is without covet 19 i had a plan i was working six months on and six months
13:26off bought bought a home uh in southern california michigan we work we go to california it's the you
13:33you know it's the pool in the backyard it's like it look when i go to vegas everything in the
13:37backyard palm trees the whole not i one house in michigan for work one house in southern cal in the
13:44winter for rest respice are you hearing me you gotta maintain so it's your boy et all right they
13:50didn't give me a lot of time i apologize all right all right but but but here's what i want to share with
13:55you we have a program called the flight assessment right please please we're going to give you a test
14:02and i hope that after the test you're going to uh call me for coaching look i want to coach you but
14:08watch this there are two characters the extrovert the pilot the flight attendant you naturally have
14:17momentum your problem is you can't maintain right and then there's the introvert group which is the
14:22grounds crew in the air traffic control you don't have no problems maintaining you just can't get
14:27started okay so there are two groups we want to work with you one group the way you are naturally built
14:33you start stuff but you can't never finish right then there's the other group you can't never start
14:39but once somebody helps you to get start you are consistent we want to help you are you hearing what
14:45i'm saying source your boy et listen to me don't build your house upon a sand you can't build your
14:51house on stuff if you're going to have a half if you're going to have the triple double life
14:56that you you your relationships are fire you hear what i'm saying your your business is fire your
15:03personal brand is fire your family is fire your finances are fire you can't start without you have to
15:11start within you have to be healthy emotionally and mentally why because you attract as a man think of
15:20has a woman think of so is she are you hear me as a man think of so as he has a woman think of so is
15:27she and so if you want to fix your world you don't fix it by making more money if you want to fix your
15:33world you don't do it by trying to attract other humans if you want to fix your world you don't go
15:37getting degrees if you want to fix your world you don't start businesses if you want to fix your world
15:43You fix your mind and fix your heart to fix your soul. And when you fix those things you will attract
15:50Oh, come on the law of attraction
15:53You will begin to attract different stuff when your mind is healthy when your heart is healthy when your soul is healthy
16:01So hey, it's your boy ET. Look, I love you. I only want the best for you. I only want the best for you
16:07I want you to be at the best place. You can be mentally spiritually emotionally
16:12But do me a favor go take the test learn what you are and then get help with what you're not so that you can make the rest of your life
16:19The best of your life. Remember small steps
16:23Great distances. Come on. Are you hearing what I'm saying? Mentally spiritually emotionally your mind your heart
16:29I'm not asking you to change the world right now. I'm not all I'm telling you small steps
16:34Great distances small steps great distances if you are ready to be transformed
16:40Let's get started with this test because 22 page document
16:44You can read it on your own in your own time, right? You know when you have to call me all the information is there, but it's gonna help you
16:51Take small steps
16:53Those small steps will eventually and get you to great distances. How do I know?
16:58I started as a high school dropout homeless sleeping in the abandoned building that GED
17:03Was a small step that got me to PhD
17:08And now it's making me number one in the world small steps great distances my people after that's it
17:16That's it. You're your mental and emotional health is the essence of your life
17:20Enjoy yourself, please and make the rest of your life the best of your life. It's your boy
