00:38to introduce today's business owner camila i got you a mute girl now she is the owner of tease with
00:47meaning such an incredible incredible mission story products everything we're going to get into those
00:54products in a little bit but you know we got to tell the people all about you and your story so
00:59why don't you tell them a little bit about yourself and how you got started on your journey
01:04yes cheers so i am camila mitchell of tease with meaning i am currently living in oakland california
01:11where tease with meaning was birthed i started tease with meaning in 2018 after being diagnosed with
01:16cancer in 2017 and each herb blend means more to me than anything that i can ever really explain but
01:26the magic of the ingredients are sourced from mount shasta and other farms with integrity and i'm
01:31grateful and honored to just make the magic happen and share it with everyone else with meaning
01:35oh my goodness just so incredible and we just had a wellness check this wednesday
01:43um about colon cancer after the passing of chadwick boseman so it's so inspirational
01:48to hear your story and um not only are you a survivor cheers to you but you took it and you made it
01:55something meaningful tease with meaning so talk a little bit about tease with meaning um how did you
02:02come up with the idea and before you get into that just a reminder to everyone this is a community show

02:18comments so talk a little bit about tease with meaning how you got that idea so again um 2017 i was
02:26diagnosed with cancer of the uterus and um for me being um in my 30s at the time of finding out
02:34it it was devastating and i had the opportunity to go sit on my friend's land in malshasta california
02:41and just meditate and grieve and allow myself to really um feel what it feels like to find out that
02:49you won't be able to carry your own child and that you have this cancer and i sat with it and when i
02:55opened my eyes after meditation and just after prayer and after being um everything i needed was right in
03:02front of me there was yarrow growing there was maulin growing there was lavender growing and to know
03:06that to tap into nature and to self you can really find the healing that you need um so just to be able
03:13to to do it and do it with meaning just became my purpose it became my health care um so tease with
03:19meaning is is my baby i i am still battling with cancer but i'm battling it with it with community
03:27and with teas with meaning so i'm good i'm strong oh my goodness so incredible and inspirational um
03:36your story so if people are looking at teas with meaning without you know knowing the ingredients
03:41or anything what is what is the message what's the meaning that you want people to take away
03:46um when they drink your tea i want them to take away the experience tea time is definitely um meant to
03:53be a slow down experience from brewing i mean excuse me from boiling the water waiting for the water
03:59um to heat at the temperature needed for the herbs to um steep it it's magic and it gives you that time
04:08to also slow down within um and i want people to realize that outside of the magic of the various
04:15medicinal properties of each herb or fruit there's also magic and just slowing down and breathing and
04:21being still um so i want people to take away i was like i took a full exhale when you said the main
04:28ingredient of teas with meaning but also within self
04:31absolutely incredible um i know a lot of people want to know i feel oh you can't hear me hold on hold on

04:56listen you already know it's time to say i was ready i was like
05:03sorry i had to leave you sorry i had to leave you you just had to reset really really quick and
05:09now you can hear me um the comments and the questions are already going crazy right now
05:14i want to go talk a little bit about like what was your first step because a lot of people have
05:20you know they have an idea or they want to do x y and z how did you get from you know being in this
05:25beautiful place and having this idea to now you're manufacturing and you have it in stores and cafes and
05:32shop essence how what were the steps that you took to get there um so honestly 2018 each month i created
05:41a new blend and in creating those blends i was looking for the herbs and plants and fruit that
05:48um and roots that would help me through my journey again i wasn't just physically battling the diagnosis
05:55of cancer i was battling the guilt i was battling the shame i was battling other internal things so
06:02finding something for nerves anti-depression anti-anxiety um so each each blend became
06:11uh intention and a mission for each month and with that i would share those those teas and those ideas
06:19with community here in oakland california that not only celebrated it but also supported it in a way
06:25for it to grow throughout the bay area um so 2018 was was just learning steps and flow but it reminded
06:33me of why i started in in that moment in sitting in prayer in 2017 so everything just flowed and kept
06:40flowing and um the the right people are sipping it the right people are enjoying the magic and i'm grateful
06:47for the flow but like i tell everybody each blend after the intention is set after the magic is made
06:53i just trust god i just keep sipping tea and keep hoping that people understand that it's bigger than
07:00us when we really take the time to slow down and and be with self with meaning 100 oh so incredible i want
07:09you to go through your teas but before you do that because i see people going in the comments like where

07:54these teas that you have first the ones that are available on shop essence um so what do you want
07:59to talk about first the one that everyone loves including me it's my baby girl it's cheers cheers
08:05yes first tea made by tea with meaning and as you can see i was um excitedly putting everything in
08:12there i put everything from apple to beetroot to licorice root to ginseng to hibiscus and this tea
08:19extra body heart and soul say cheers so cheers i love that and it is not caffeinated so when i
08:27say that it's uplifting it's because of the ginseng the ginseng root is definitely a natural
08:32uplifter um so that's cheers tea my baby everyone's favorite listen it's the favorite for a reason
08:39because it's so incredible i've been weaning myself off of having the cup of coffee every single
08:45morning i haven't had in quite some time and this has been such a great thing in the morning to just
08:51have all natural and and you could see the love that went look at that it's love i just felt so fancy
08:58pouring this into my and then you have these little tea bags that you can make your own tea bags which
09:05is in i have never even exactly i've never even had that before i also have biodegradable
09:13i also tell people you can take some of the herbs depending on the blend open the bag you can either
09:21put it in your juice your smoothie you can add it in your coconut yogurt or just you can you can add it
09:26into other things and for some of my teas which i'll get to i i even throw the herbs in my bath
09:31water because i mean what's what's inside is out outside i'm missing out okay and i have all these
09:37other uses okay prototype prototype is my baby girl and i know the first thing that comes to mind for
09:44all of us is andre 3000 you are the prototype you know i started thinking that she's the thing song
09:52so there's rose buds in there there's saffron and the saffron as we all know rose and saffron you put
09:58it in your bath water or your face mist it's magic so imagine the magic that it does commonly within
10:03your body it's it's also on shop essence and it is definitely a herbal tea when i say tea i know a lot
10:10of people think of black green and white and um caffeinated but these are herb blends so prototype
10:16has no caffeine um this is also an herbal blend and it's all the herb love that you need that's on

10:59oh spilt it and that was such a treat to actually you know put it into my little tea scooper and see
11:07the bits of dry fruit and the herb it's magic it's better than chai luxurious i tell you

11:48shifts of season so this is elderberry and sunflower i mean cornflower blossoms and papaya it's just
11:56everything that your body just wants to cool down with um as we transition and shift with not only
12:01weather but internally as well and then there's harvest and harvest is for those who like chai
12:08but want to get away from caffeine harvest is a rooibus base and it has like pumpkin and um
12:15oh my gosh cardamom and it definitely has a little ginger and magic and cinnamon in there so that's harvest
12:23and she is great hot and iced and even as a hot toddy for all that oh hot toddy okay yeah you know
12:31a little extra extra so that is with meaning and again over 20 blends um each season i come out with
12:38a new four i have an eight signature that you'll always see on um shop essence and on with meaning.org
12:46but there are always a shift in a transition of seasonal blends to keep up with what's going on
12:53um with our with mama earth here who wants to share with us the love i love that so i'm good i'm just

13:38the ritual of having tea and what it means and like you have to take a second to you know steep
13:45the water and all of that just sometimes especially as black women juggling 10 million hats that means
13:52so much can you talk a little bit about how you choose the different blends and maybe what some of
13:58the benefits are i see a lot of questions in the the comments of like can i use tea for this or that
14:05do you um have any of those points about each of your teas i do um so for those again like me i i like
14:15caffeine as well um but for me i know that i needed an uplifter and something that will also give me the
14:24medicinal properties properties that i needed so that's cheers is definitely if you want that
14:30extra kick that coffee or caffeine gives you cheers will give you that as well with no caffeine so none
14:37of the jitterness um you get the beetroot the licorice root the peppermint the ginger you get the things that
14:42your body needs uh to kind of start the day fully balanced so cheers is something like anytime i'm starting
14:49in my day um i'll go with cheers but i'll also go with cheers if i had a day where i was triggered um
14:56so oftentimes um there's so much going on right now where um sometimes cheers is my slowdown and it's
15:05the slowdown even like i said cheers this whole body um uplifting so sometimes drinking cheers and
15:11just slowing down and breathing is spiritually uplifting for me as well um when i'm looking to
15:17have like a self-care um situation i definitely go to prototype with the rosebuds and the saffron and
15:25the ginger because again i'll take those rosebuds and i'll throw it in my back water with other herbs
15:31and just kind of create so it depends on what you are exactly looking for because my experience with
15:37tea will be different from your experience but there's magic in each blend

16:23several cafes and stores now that we're in this pandemic and covid has hit how has your business kind
16:30pivoted from before and to now um so i think the first thing um i had to slow down because you know
16:42after covid hit everyone everyone was in that state of all of us were uncertain and still um but for me
16:51the first thing i had to think of is oakland's ramp um this is my health care like this is what keeps me
16:59physically and spiritually going um so in that moment i created teeth with meaning and bottle
17:06started to bottle teeth look at you i started to that's great just do trial and error um with a lot
17:15of things and just figure out um what it is that i need to grow i also just stay true to my values and
17:22and and what it is and but kept putting those values out there and reminding people that wellness
17:28mindfulness and tea time is really the cup of tea they wanted you know and that they needed during
17:33these times so i was it i would honestly say business has has become my balance you know it
17:40helps me just recognize that okay there's gonna be days where it's uncertain but there's gonna be
17:45days where you keep going and in that i got a great cup of tea to kind of soothe me and and remind
17:49me that that keep going is going to continue to look like shine i love that light listen and you're
17:59already giving us a word but wait okay hold on so i have some more questions i don't want to leave you
18:04guys out um alana wants to know are there specific ingredients to use for cancer management versus
18:10some other ailments yes and those ingredients i personally use only on me because every body
18:17is different like literally and but everybody is different so those herbs i definitely spend a lot
18:25of magical time with on myself um because oftentimes when dealing with cancer you're dealing with um
18:31you're dealing with the emotional side of it too the grief of it the the there's there's a lot that
18:37an individual may be carrying um and as we've seen um a lot of us are are putting on something else
18:45when we're really going through something else um so those herbs i definitely use just on myself
18:52but i will recommend um herbs to others after listening to them because again you don't want to
18:59tell people you have to hear what people are really saying and what they need that's right and i think
19:05for that you need to tell people how to get in touch with you what's your social media

19:57it is a um a tea blend and it has lavender and rooibos and um just apple bits and and magic it's
20:06really a soothing um soothing herbal blend but then community became how i also provided services for
20:14um pop-up events how i provided services within schools how i provided services within professional
20:20developments as well as mindfulness and diversity inclusion within corporate and startups so
20:27community time was just it is a time and it's still done virtually so anyone love it for community time
20:35or a tea party i got a tea for that um love it community just became a time where we we come
20:42together have meaningful conversations um over a cup of tea and whatever meaningful conversation
20:47is needed within that community i was there to support it not only with the herbs but with
20:52the the safe space hmm that is amazing so y'all gotta follow her so we can get invited to these
21:01virtual tea parties and hopefully when this is over we can have one in person um dorinda so dorinda
21:08asks if any are decaffeinated i know that most of them don't have caffeine do you so dorinda just go

21:23teas with meaning um but anytime i ask and i remind people to please please please read the descriptions
21:32because the descriptions say it as well yeah the descriptions also give you an opportunity to google
21:37um what herbs that you might be looking for as well like what might work for me one way might work
21:44differently for you so really take the time and this is for everything in life so really kind of
21:48yeah take the extra seconds of google real quick but um the only thing that you can't google is the
21:54magic because i am the main ingredient you better tell them so now we're already on the powerful
22:02moment but i love to firing us through this whole 22 minutes blown away but if we can just leave
22:09everybody uh with a positive word not even necessarily for anyone who is an entrepreneur
22:14just they could be dealing with an ailment or um just dealing with life out here right now what is
22:21something that you would say to them to keep them going don't forget your magic you are magic and we
22:28all have it um it all vibrates differently or at certain times or higher or just depending but
22:34don't forget your magic and that can be um that can be through tea time that can be through whatever
22:41self-care you need just don't forget your magic
