The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) clarified that after a thorough inspection, the switches were found to be 'satisfactory with the locking tooth' and remained secure under pressure.

00:00All right, cutting across to some news coming in, this is DGCA issuing a statement now in the
00:10India, the Air India fuel switch Rao. The DGCA has now issued a statement saying that both left
00:16and right switches were checked and found satisfactory with the locking tooth, the pole
00:21fully seated and not splitting from run to cut off. Now when the full force was applied parallel
00:27to the base plate, the switch remained secure. Now all these details basically, what is the
00:32context to this? Remember that just a couple of days ago, there was another case flagged
00:41off by a pilot who was on the Boeing 787 Dreamliner and said that there was a problem with the
00:50switch. Now post that flagging off, there had been an alert that had been sounded off and
00:55there were checks going on. So what exactly has happened? Let's get an update from my
00:59colleague Shriya Chatterjee now joining us for the very latest. Shriya, take us through
01:02what exactly is DGCA saying at the moment? They are saying, yes, there is a concern on
01:07these switches, but on that particular aircraft, that was not the case. Is that correct?
01:13Well, absolutely. Now this is a huge turnaround that is now coming in from the DGCA where
01:18they are clearly saying that on the third attempt, the switch latched correctly in run and it
01:23remained stable. So in the initial two occasions that they are mentioning that the crew had
01:29observed that the fuel control switch did not remain positively latched, but when there was
01:34some vertical pressure that was applied, the switches were found to be latched. Now the
01:39technicalities of this is something that only the DGCA and the Air India Engineering Department
01:45is going to spit to answer because remember, they've also carried out in a sweep of security
01:49check across their Dreamliner fleet. That's something that we got a confirmation in the
01:54morning. And now the DGCA is saying that after a thorough check of this very aircraft is where
01:59it was found fit in spine. So clearly we'll have to wait and watch because inspections will
02:04still have to be carried out. And now with the DGCA coming in saying that the DGCA officers were
02:09saying that the video that had been circulating on social media was analysed in light of Boeing
02:25recommended procedures. And it was observed that the procedure demonstrated in the video
02:30was circulated incorrectly. So it's the video in concern which the DGCA is saying has been
02:36purportedly misused in an incorrect manner to flag off the issue. But they are saying
02:41that the runoff switches in the third attempt latched on correctly, thereby saying that in
02:46their presence, when the inspection was carried out, the flight was found fit.
02:51Right. Shia, very quickly, for anybody taking Dreamliner at the moment, what is the DGCA guideline?
02:58Is it safe to travel?
03:00Well, you know, obviously, because that is what they are implying right now. They're saying
03:05that the airline is being advised to circulate the Boeing recommended procedure for operation
03:09of fuel cut switches. So there was some operational error is what the DGCA is exactly pointing it
03:14out. And because there's an inspection that's also being carried out, it's like allaying the
03:19fear that was created after the news break yesterday. They are now saying this.
03:22Sure.
03:22Just let see.
03:32Y'all do not see anything.
03:32Let us know this.
03:36See you next time.
03:37And finally, there is a leave of that.
03:41Okay.
