Oprah Winfrey and Brad Pitt are teaming up to adapt The Water Dancer, the best-selling novel by Ta-Nehisi Coates, for MGM.

00:00Oprah Winfrey and Brad Pitt are teaming up for a new project.
00:04Winfrey's Harpo Films and Pitt's Plan B are coming together along with Camilla Forbes
00:08to adapt and produce The Water Dancer, the best-selling novel by Ta-Nehisi Coates for MGM.
00:14Coates adapted his own novel, which was Winfrey's first selection of her revived Oprah's book club
00:19in partnership with Apple, and was listed as one of the best books of the year for 2019
00:23by Time, NPR, The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, Vanity Fair, and Esquire, among others.
00:30Set in the pre-Civil War South, the story follows Hiram Walker, who was born into bondage
00:35and possesses amazing photographic memory, but has no memory of his mother.
00:39A car accident reveals to him a superpower called conduction, an ability to travel large distances,
00:45and that is triggered by powerful memories of his mother.
00:48Through his journey, he becomes involved with the Underground Railroad and meets historical figures.
00:52Coates himself spoke out in a statement saying,
00:55I'm honored to be working with Harpo, Plan B, and my old friend Camilla Forbes.
01:00We all believe that MGM is the best home for this adaptation and look forward to bringing it to life.
01:05Coates' Between the World and Me is currently being adapted at HBO as a special,
01:09starring Mahershala Ali, Angela Bassett, Jarrell Jerome, and Yara Shahidi, among others.
01:15Coates is an acclaimed essayist and author, and is also the current author of the Marvel comics,
01:20The Black Panther, and Captain America.
