00:00Moving now to Costa Rica, after the release of the preliminary results from the presidential
00:05and legislative elections by the Supreme Electoral Tribunal, official candidate Laura Fernández
00:10has emerged victorious with 49.61% of the vote.
00:15Fernández from the conservative Pueblo Soberano Party surpassed at the 40% threshold required
00:21by the Costa Rican electoral law winning the election in the first round, with a voter
00:25turnout of 68.51%, the highest since 2022, Fernández defeated her closest rivals, Álvaro
00:33Ramos from the Liberación Nacional Party, who, at the time of the preliminary results
00:38release, had 32.56% of the votes.
00:42And Claudia Robles from Coalition Agenda Ciudadana, who trails with 4.58%.
00:49This marks the second time in Costa Rica's 204-year history that a woman has been elected
00:55president.
