00:00Cynthia Nixon will not be the next governor of New York, but she says she will keep fighting.
00:05Of course, you know her as Miranda from the hit show Sex and the City.
00:09They don't make cosmopolitan. It's a Staten Island iced tea.
00:13Is that like a Long Island iced tea?
00:15I think so.
00:16But back in March, she took the Democratic Party primary by storm when she entered the race for New York governor.
00:22When asked why she was running, here's what she told Stephen Colbert.
00:25You know, I'm a lifelong New Yorker, and I love this state, and I just know we could do so much better.
00:31But as soon as the polls closed on Thursday night, Nixon's opponent, incumbent Governor Andrew Cuomo, took a lead.
00:37And within about 45 minutes, he was declared the winner.
00:41Nixon gave her concession speech only two hours after the polls closed, telling the crowd,
00:46While the result tonight was not what we hoped for, I am not discouraged.
00:50I am inspired, and I hope you are too.
00:53The actor-turned-candidate said that she had already achieved victory by pushing the governor to the left
00:58on issues like marijuana legalization and equitable policing. She told the crowd,
01:03Nixon didn't say whether or not she will remain active in New York politics.
01:14But while things didn't turn out her way on Thursday, she did take on a sitting governor,
01:18make him sweat, and reveal herself to be quite the politician.
01:22That's not bad for someone who many dismissed as just an actor.
