00:05The CNN This Morning co-anchor returned to the morning show on Wednesday for the first time since he landed in hot water
00:11over comments he made last week about 2024 presidential hopeful and former South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley.
00:19He did not, however, address or apologize for those comments on air.
00:23But in a tweet on Wednesday morning just before his return, Lemon wrote,
00:26I appreciate the opportunity to be back on CNN This Morning today.
00:30To my network, my colleagues, and our incredible audience, I'm sorry.
00:34I've heard you, I'm learning from you, and I'm committed to doing better. See you soon.
00:38Lemon's initial comments came as he was discussing a proposal from Haley
00:42to require all political candidates over 75 to undergo a mental competency test.
00:48She says people, you know, politicians or something are not in their prime.
00:51Nikki Haley isn't in her prime. Sorry.
00:53A woman is considered to be in her prime in her 20s and 30s and maybe 40s.
00:57What are you talking about? Wait.
00:58That's not according to me.
01:00He was called into a CNN staff meeting on Friday to apologize.
01:03Sources say his comments angered a number of CNN employees,
01:07including his co-anchors on The Morning Show, Poppy Harlow and Caitlin Collins.
01:11Lemon was off on Friday and also took off Monday with CNN CEO Chris Licht telling staff that Lemon would undergo formal training.
