00:00Tonight on Healthy, Wealthy and Wise, a firefighter mum gets a makeover that will inspire us all.
00:06Oh, look at you. That looks awesome. Doesn't she look good?
00:11Jesus.
00:13Comedian Dave Thornton is our first victim of the box of death.
00:17What are you doing? I live in Melbourne. We only have hook turns.
00:20Like, that's the only thing I have to worry about.
00:22This room needs to be rescued.
00:25And this family can't believe how we transformed their home in a room rescue.
00:29Oh, my God.
00:49Hello, hello, and welcome to the very first episode of the revitalised Healthy, Wealthy and Wise.
00:56Yes, we are bringing it back.
00:58A bit of a polish, a bit of a zhoosh, but the bones are still the same.
01:02It's all about living smarter, feeling better, and maybe having a bit of a laugh along the way.
01:09I'm Chrissie Swan, and I'm so pleased to be here.
01:13And over there, within arm's reach of every fact you could possibly need,
01:18is our researcher and in-house info whisperer, Mr Ash Wicks.
01:22Hey.
01:23Hey.
01:26Now, we thought we needed someone that I could call on to answer questions in an instant,
01:31but sadly that person didn't show up.
01:33So we got Mr Moustache over there.
01:35Great start.
01:36I was first pick.
01:38Number one pick, they say.
01:39But anyway, I have got a broken phone screen, a vague sense of responsibility, and Google.
01:46So we're in safe hands.
01:47What could possibly go wrong?
01:49A lot.
01:49Now, our very first guest, it's someone who knows exactly how to make you feel confident
01:55in your own skin.
01:56She's a creative force, an entrepreneur, an author, a styling icon, and a genuinely beautiful
02:01human being.
02:02Of course, I'm talking about our style expert and my very good friend, Chika Keen.
02:07We'll take a seat.
02:10I mean, good on us for creating an entire TV show just so that we can sit on a couch and
02:16chat.
02:16I know, we never get to catch up, so now we get to do it this way.
02:18I love it.
02:19Now, I know what you're doing here, but why don't you tell our beautiful viewers what
02:23you're up to?
02:24Well, I'm here to help people reconnect with themselves, because I think a lot of people
02:28feel style is something that's slightly intimidating, and really, when we look good, we feel good.
02:33So, I'm hoping that with some perspective, I can show people how they can change the way
02:37they look and feel, just with a tweak of an outfit or a moving around to some furniture.
02:42Chika, where did your first Mission for Confidence take you?
02:46Well, the first person was Linda.
02:48She's from a town close to Bendigo.
02:50She is the chief officer at the CFA, and she's the most selfless woman.
02:54Her daughter put her forward, wanted to give her mum the spotlight, and to get her out of
02:58her black clothing.
02:59So, we had a lot of fun hanging out together and doing a little bit of a makeover.
03:03Oh, my God.
03:04I love this so much.
03:06It's fun.
03:07All right.
03:07Let's take a look.
03:08Let's do it.
03:18Well, hello, Miss Linda.
03:20It is so lovely.
03:22I'd like to meet you.
03:23You too.
03:24This is incredibly impressive.
03:25Big red truck.
03:26Big red truck.
03:27I know, I love it.
03:28Very exciting.
03:30Now, what are we doing today?
03:32Ashley.
03:32Oh, Ashley, have you done this?
03:35Yeah.
03:36My daughter Ashley nominated me.
03:38She's a member here at the Fire Brigade as well.
03:40She wants to see me try something new.
03:45I don't really have much style.
03:47I dress for comfort.
03:50I want to see mum get out of black.
03:52Okay.
03:52So, she's wearing a lot of black, is she?
03:53Yes.
03:54When I'm not captaining the CFA, I am a lighting technician at the local theatre.
04:02Black.
04:03That's what we wear.
04:04It's just carried over into my real life.
04:08Because it's easy.
04:10And I'm lazy when it comes to fashion.
04:13Black.
04:14Black.
04:15Black.
04:15Oh, my God.
04:16You really aren't joking.
04:17I know.
04:17No.
04:18No.
04:18You don't have to think about, does this go with this?
04:21You just go with black.
04:23But, I do have a little bit of colour in my velvet flares.
04:28Love, love, love, love.
04:30Yes, I do too.
04:31What would you wear with this, though?
04:32A black turtleneck.
04:36Dress?
04:37Dress, no.
04:38Definitely no dresses?
04:39No dresses.
04:39Okay, fine.
04:40That's cool.
04:40I'm not a dress person.
04:41No, no.
04:42And that's totally fine.
04:42At all.
04:43I don't own a dress.
04:44Not one.
04:46I like to be able to jump into my firefighting gear when we get a page and not have to worry
04:53about getting out of a frock.
04:55And I'm assuming probably not much make-up.
04:57If it's a really special occasion, I'll put some mascara on.
05:01Woo-hoo!
05:01Woo-hoo!
05:02Okay.
05:03I've got no idea how to put it on.
05:04She couldn't even do my dance make-up when I was little.
05:06Oh, really?
05:07Did you have to learn how to do it yourself?
05:08No, I still can't do it.
05:09Make-up.
05:10Just not a priority in my life.
05:13I have no idea how to apply make-up, but I can drive a semi-trailer across the Nullarbor.
05:19I had breast cancer in 2022.
05:24I found the lump myself.
05:26Fortunately, it was nice and early.
05:27It hadn't gone to my lymph nodes, so I just had it removed a month of radiation treatment.
05:33And so far, so good.
05:35It certainly gives you a sense of your own mortality and that every day that you have is a gift.
05:40It also makes you realise that you've really got nothing to lose.
05:44Get out there.
05:46Do what you want to do.
05:47You might not get another opportunity.
05:50Okay.
05:51I think we can definitely give you some things that you can layer up and have fun with.
05:54Still keep it casual.
05:55Working with your personality and maybe move a little bit away from all the black.
05:59Aw.
06:00Are you happy to do that?
06:01I'm happy to have a crack at it.
06:02That's all we can ask for.
06:03We might even find you a few white T-shirts.
06:05Oh, me and white.
06:07Gosh, and they'll stay clean for about 30 seconds.
06:09That doesn't matter.
06:10Don't worry about that.
06:11I bet you that's not true.
06:12I bet you.
06:13Oh, it is.
06:13Oh, it is.
06:14The boys here are going to love when you walk in and go, what have they done to our captain?
06:18Before I left, Linda was kind enough to give me a little wardrobe makeover of my own.
06:27A diverse and inclusive brigade that represents the community that we serve is really important.
06:34And I think that's important for all brigades.
06:36For me, it's all about breaking down barriers for women.
06:39People can be what they can see.
06:41Absolutely.
06:41And in the tanker, we're sometimes all girls.
06:44It's really nice seeing mums pointing to their little girls and saying, look, look, look.
06:52Oh, firetrucks, firetrucks.
06:53And the little girls are all there waving.
06:56Traditionally, that was a little boy thing.
07:03Very good.
07:04I have feelings for Linda and I'm pretty sure they're real.
07:15She's a very special woman.
07:17Oh, my God.
07:18Do not go anywhere because after the break, I will be sitting down with the master of the mic, Dave Thornton,
07:24who's blissfully unaware that he's about to face the box of death.
07:29Stick around.
07:30You'll see what I mean.
07:31This segment is brought to you by Bob Jane T-Mart's Best Tire Price Guarantee.
07:47Welcome back to Healthy, Healthy and Wise.
07:49Now, do not go anywhere because we are smack bang in the middle of a Chica-style makeover.
07:55We'll have the big reveal a little later in the show.
07:58But before we get back to the glam, we're shifting gears with a segment we like to call Fast Facts.
08:05Today, second-hand cars.
08:08Now, what to look for, what to run from and how not to get sweet-talked into buying something
08:13that needs a new transmission and a priest.
08:17We've brought in our motoring expert, Adam Morris, from ReDriven to give us all the info.
08:23And I'm going to time him two minutes.
08:26No pressure.
08:27How are you planning on timing that, Chrissie?
08:29How do you think?
08:30I thought you could just time it off my attention span and then time that by six.
08:36And we should be around about there.
08:38I'm going to time him with two-minute noodles.
08:41The people's stopwatch.
08:43Amen.
08:43All right, Adam, you've got two minutes before these noodles go in my gop.
08:51G'day, I'm Adam and I'm your motoring expert.
08:54And look, let's be honest, when it comes to buying a car, there are some dodgy characters
08:58out there.
08:59It can be daunting, but I've got some good news.
09:01Avoid these red flags and you should be sweet.
09:03If the seller, and this also goes for car yards and dealerships as well, doesn't allow
09:09you to get an independent pre-purchase inspection, they are hiding something.
09:13Do not buy that car.
09:14Also, if the car doesn't have a service history or the service history seems dodgy or the
09:19receipts or any of the paperwork isn't sorted, yeah, not a good sign.
09:23You need to learn as much about the car's history as you possibly can.
09:26Next up, if the odometer is showing 30,000 kilometers, but the rubber on the pedals is
09:30completely worn through, that's not a good sign.
09:33The kilometers should match the condition of the car.
09:35Also, modifications are generally a no-no.
09:38Plus, they might be illegal.
09:40This means that when it comes time to re-register the car, you won't be able to.
09:43Also, be really careful of dodgy finance deals and used car warranties.
09:48A bad finance deal can put you into a world of hurt, and most used car warranties are not
09:52worth the paper they're written on.
09:53You've got to read the fine print.
09:55Also, does the seller seem sketchy?
09:57Are they not answering the phone or they want some weird form of finance?
10:00Or maybe they're way too enthusiastic to sell and the price of the car is far too low.
10:05These are all red flags.
10:07Next up, looking out for any mismatched paint or if the panel gaps aren't accurate or if
10:11there are any signs of spray paint overspray, that's a good sign that the car has had an
10:15accident.
10:15And inside, if the car smells like wet dog, there's a good chance it's got some water
10:19leakage issues.
10:20Yeah, don't buy that car.
10:22Look, overall, if the car or the buying process doesn't feel right, or maybe it feels way
10:27too good to be true, it probably is.
10:29Just keep your emotions and your enthusiasm in check and buy with your head, not your heart,
10:33and you should be good to go.
10:34And he's done.
10:41Let's see if Adam beat the noodles.
10:45Nah.
10:45Still got some crunch, so he's safe.
10:48And with that, it's time to slow it down a bit.
10:52Let's all just settle in.
10:53Make a cup of tea.
10:55Maybe have a classic late night show chat with the guests.
10:58Nothing too intense.
10:58Nope, that's what a boring show would do.
11:02We are not that.
11:03We're taking it up a notch with a little segment we like to call...
11:07The Box of Death.
11:12Please welcome to the Couch Australia's own stand-up sharpshooter, Dave Thornton.
11:17Dave, hello.
11:19Hello, Swanee.
11:19How are you?
11:21Well, that sounds...
11:22Always an absolute pleasure to see you.
11:24And to you.
11:25Now, this time is going to be a little bit different.
11:28Or no.
11:29Let me explain.
11:30This is Australia, and we live in a country where pulling down a sun visor in your car
11:35could unleash a large spider, and every third pot plant is harbouring something venomous
11:40with an attitude problem.
11:41So we thought, why not honour this national anxiety that we all share with a little challenge?
11:47While we chat, you're going to be holding a creature nature designed specifically to make
11:54you scream expletives.
11:55But you're not allowed.
11:56We're on telly.
11:57Your choice is a massive snake.
12:02Oh, Jesus.
12:06And if that doesn't tickle your fancy, your other choice is a giant spider.
12:11What are you doing?
12:12I live in Melbourne.
12:13We only have hook turns.
12:14Like, that's the only thing I have to worry about.
12:16Weirdly, a hook turn is your third choice.
12:20Really?
12:20Only joking.
12:22Your third choice is the box of death.
12:27Hey, Chrissy, this doesn't feel healthy, wealthy, all wise.
12:30This doesn't hit any of the KPIs that we're trying.
12:33So I've got to choose between these three.
12:35Yeah.
12:35We do take our obligations seriously.
12:37So we want to return your children's father to them tonight after this show.
12:42Oh, that's nice.
12:42So we do have top-notch paramedics on standby.
12:46Woo!
12:48Hey.
12:52We actually couldn't afford a paramedic, so I've taken a crash course in first aid.
12:56I hope this program has deep pockets because there's going to be a lawsuit.
12:59I just want to let you know.
12:59So, Dave, what are you vibing?
13:03Are you arachnophobic, spiders, or...?
13:06Ophidiophobic.
13:07I beg your pardon?
13:09Ophidiophobic.
13:10I believe it's fear of massive snakes.
13:12Wow.
13:13Yeah, I get paid to Google.
13:15No, I think the name for that is reasonable.
13:18Yeah.
13:18Like, it's not as if anyone's going, I'm fine with giant snakes.
13:21It is perfectly reasonable for that thing to, oh, my God, that doesn't look right.
13:26All right, we're going to take a break, and then when we come back,
13:28I'm going to need an answer.
13:31Oh, no, fair enough.
13:32Mention your sponsors, and then I die.
13:34That makes sense.
13:34That makes complete sense.
13:36Got to pay the bills, Thorno.
13:37We'll be back after the break.
13:44Healthy, Wealthy and Wise is brought to you by Specsavers.
13:51Welcome back to Healthy, Wealthy and Wise.
13:53I knew you'd come back because you want to see
13:54which creature Dave Thornton is going to choose.
13:59Thanks for sticking around.
14:00Yeah, I shouldn't have.
14:02Well, you could have been a hasty retreat
14:05because before the break, I offered you three options.
14:08You can hold a snake, you can hold a spider,
14:10or you can go for whatever is in the box of death.
14:14And we're here to find out what it's going to be.
14:19To be honest, I spent the whole time texting Tommy Little
14:21to see if he could fill in, but...
14:23LAUGHTER
14:24This sounds weird.
14:27It's better the devil you know,
14:28because I don't know what's in that box.
14:30I'm actually worried to see what's in it.
14:32And I hate spiders.
14:33And I don't know if I watched too many Motley Crue video clips
14:36when I was a kid, but I feel like I could wear the snake around me.
14:40I should be fine.
14:41You're going to do that?
14:42It looks like... Has it eaten recently?
14:45No, not recently.
14:46Oh, this is...
14:47LAUGHTER
14:48This feels like I'm a D-grade celebrity, get me out of here.
14:51This feels...
14:52It looks so real.
14:54Oh, this doesn't feel good at all.
14:56Done all of this.
14:57There's a little lump in here.
14:58Was that Grant Daniel?
14:59What's going on?
15:00LAUGHTER
15:01All right.
15:02Are we ready?
15:04Yeah, you have to hold the head.
15:05Why? Why do I have to do that?
15:07Because I just made it up.
15:09Oh, so you're not cool with it?
15:11No, I'm not cool with it.
15:12No.
15:14Honestly...
15:14Oh, God.
15:15Oh, OK.
15:17All right.
15:17Start the clock.
15:18You, Dave Thornton, have had dozens of sell-out shows,
15:21both here and overseas.
15:22You've officially made it.
15:23How's your super?
15:24LAUGHTER
15:24To be honest, I work in the arts, mate.
15:28It's just annuation.
15:29There's no super about it.
15:31Whatsoever.
15:31You have performed across the globe.
15:34Edinburgh, Montreal, Singapore.
15:37Why was your residency at the Sphinx in Geelong,
15:41the pinnacle of your career?
15:42Because I grew up in Geelong.
15:43I grew up in Detroit.
15:44I'm a proud Geelongian.
15:46And, um...
15:47Actually, the Sphinx Hotel...
15:48The drive-in bottle-o, do you know what it's called?
15:50No.
15:51The Toot and Come In.
15:52LAUGHTER
15:53That is the best.
15:54Isn't it?
15:55Dave Thornton, every comedian has to deal with abuse from hecklers.
15:59Have you ever heard them say anything
16:00that's made you think,
16:01Actually, you've got a point.
16:03Yes.
16:04What?
16:05I was performing at a university when I was younger
16:07and I had just started comedy.
16:09And I remember I looked out to the audience
16:10and this woman was sitting in the front row
16:13and I said,
16:14Oh, are you OK?
16:15You're not really laughing.
16:16And she just said,
16:16I just think you can do better.
16:18LAUGHTER
16:19And here I am, 20 years later on a Saturday night
16:24with a snake around my neck.
16:25LAUGHTER
16:25Who's laughing now, sweetheart?
16:28This is...
16:28Oh, he twitched.
16:30He actually twitched.
16:30Oh, God.
16:32What if I told you right now
16:34you had a bat in the cave?
16:36There's a booger.
16:37What are you going to do?
16:37Oh, God, this is the least of my problems.
16:40You should see what's in my pants.
16:42Like, he isn't a brown snake,
16:44but I have one on my person at this point in time.
16:46He's actually...
16:48Oh, I don't.
16:49Carry on.
16:50Keep asking you.
16:51Yes.
16:52You climbed Mount to Kilimanjaro
16:53with the great Tommy Little.
16:55Next time,
16:56do you think you'll do it with someone more sympathetic
16:58when you break down and cry for your mummy?
17:01This is a story up there.
17:02Tommy's a really lovely guy, to be honest,
17:04and I had...
17:05My circulation's quite bad
17:06and my hands weren't really working
17:08and I had to whizzle-wazzle at one stage
17:10going up the mountain
17:11and I couldn't button my pants back up.
17:13And so Tommy, bless him, did my pants up.
17:15Oh, it was the Daily Mail paparazzi
17:18at that exact moment.
17:19I know.
17:19Where?
17:21Well, like I said, it was very cold,
17:22so he was Tommy Little by name,
17:24I was little by nature.
17:26Oh, this is making my immemorium.
17:28I was once at the Logies with Denise Strysdale
17:30during the immemorium
17:31and it ended and she goes,
17:32oh, good, I'm not dead.
17:35Anyway, you didn't die.
17:36Well done.
17:37You've survived
17:37and you can go out
17:39and make more money for your children.
17:40Well done.
17:40Sonny, thank you, mate.
17:42Oh.
17:44Oh, that was you, Ebony.
17:45Oh, I didn't know what he was doing.
17:47Oh, God.
17:48Oh.
17:48Next up, we are taking a closer look
17:50at something a lot of us do overlook,
17:54our eyesight.
17:55We all like to think that we'd notice
17:57if something was wrong with our eyes,
17:59but it turns out plenty of conditions
18:01are sneaking up on us very quietly.
18:05Our medical expert, Dr Michael,
18:06has been out talking to the public
18:08about the warning signs
18:09that we all tend to miss.
18:11Let's take a look.
18:12Most of us take our sight for granted
18:14until something goes wrong.
18:17So today, I'm hitting the streets
18:18with these simulation glasses
18:19to show everyday Australians
18:21what it's like to live
18:22with a chronic eye condition
18:23and why you should get your eyes checked
18:25before it's too late.
18:31We're going to give you these glasses,
18:33try them on,
18:34and then tell me what you can see.
18:37Absolutely nothing.
18:39Have a look at me.
18:40Can you see me?
18:41It's just blur.
18:43Oh, yeah, that's quite difficult.
18:45Wow.
18:46Yeah.
18:46That's not good.
18:47No, you don't want to get to that stage.
18:48No.
18:50I'm visiting an expert
18:51to find out more about eye conditions.
18:54So, Joe,
18:55these glasses have been blowing
18:56everybody's mind out in the street there.
18:58Look, I think it's important
18:59that we talk through
19:00all of these different conditions
19:01and let people at home
19:02understand what's going on.
19:04So, these glasses replicate
19:05diabetic retinopathy.
19:07So, when these small blood vessels
19:08in the retina becomes leaky,
19:10and it makes your vision
19:11really patchy and blurred.
19:13There's certain bits of my vision
19:15that I can see,
19:16and then there's other bits
19:17where I just can't see anything.
19:18Yep.
19:19So, that one's diabetic retinopathy.
19:21What does it look like?
19:22Maybe the floaties
19:23that I get in my eyes sometimes.
19:24I'm seeing white spots everywhere.
19:26I can see you, sort of.
19:28Often, in the early stages,
19:31there are no symptoms,
19:32which is why I would say
19:34to patients with diabetes
19:35to get their eyes checked
19:37on a yearly basis.
19:38Makes sense.
19:39You want to try another one?
19:40So, that one's called
19:42glaucoma.
19:43Yeah.
19:44Uh, oh, golly.
19:47Glaucoma often creeps up
19:48with no symptoms at all.
19:50So, when you start to notice it,
19:51often the damage is already done.
19:53It affects your peripheral vision,
19:55which is why wearing these glasses
19:58look like you're looking through a tunnel.
20:00I've got to adjust my centre side,
20:02not the peripherals.
20:04How much harder is that than normal?
20:07Well, 150% harder.
20:10Try these ones on.
20:11This one's pretty scary.
20:13Oh, wow.
20:13Yes.
20:14I cannot see right in the middle
20:16of my vision.
20:17Yeah.
20:17Can you read anything there?
20:19No.
20:19Do you have to move your eyes around
20:20to try and see it?
20:21Yeah.
20:21Can you see me?
20:23Only if I move that way.
20:24How many fingers am I holding up?
20:26There I can see two.
20:27There I can see none.
20:28Your macula is your central vision,
20:30and macular degeneration
20:31affects that part of your vision.
20:33So it means doing simple things
20:35like reading, driving,
20:38or just seeing detail
20:39is really difficult.
20:41It's one of the leading causes
20:42of vision loss as we age.
20:44I see a faint outline of you,
20:46but that's all.
20:47What eye condition
20:48do you think that might be?
20:49I don't know.
20:50I'm assuming it's nothing not good.
20:52How many fingers am I holding up?
20:53Um, no, no.
20:54No?
20:55I wouldn't be able to tell you.
20:56That's actually cataracts.
20:58Wow.
20:58Wow.
20:59Can you see anything?
21:00No, I can see your hand moving,
21:02but you could be anybody.
21:04Cataracts is basically
21:05when the natural lens in the eye
21:07becomes foggy,
21:08kind of like looking through
21:09a dirty or foggy window.
21:11Often it can creep up
21:13really gradually.
21:14Yeah, that's scary.
21:15I did have a cataract removed,
21:17but it definitely wasn't
21:18as bad as this.
21:19Do you think you'd be able
21:20to live your normal life
21:21or drive
21:22or do your day-to-day stuff
21:23without a chance?
21:24Absolutely not.
21:25I just would not be able
21:27to function
21:28if I had vision like that.
21:30So, Joe,
21:30from what you're saying,
21:31these don't go from
21:32zero to a hundred overnight.
21:34This is a process
21:34that happens over time.
21:36The scariest part is
21:37some of these conditions
21:38don't even have
21:39any warning signs.
21:40So even if your vision
21:41feels fine,
21:42you should still book in
21:43to get eye examinations
21:44on a regular basis.
21:46It's not rocket science,
21:47is it?
21:49Exactly.
21:49Early prevention and detection
21:51makes all the difference.
21:58Actually, Ash,
21:59can you quickly look up
22:00how often we're supposed
22:01to be getting our eyes checked?
22:03Oh, surely it's similar
22:04to bed sheets,
22:05like once a year.
22:06That's disgusting.
22:08Still to come,
22:10our DIY diademo,
22:11Amy Stanton,
22:12is rolling up her sleeves
22:14and giving a tired old womb.
22:16Oh, no,
22:16it's not about
22:17my reproductive system.
22:18A tired old womb.
22:20A proper refresh
22:21for a family
22:22that really deserves it.
22:24We'll see you then.
22:32This segment is brought to you
22:34by Oz Design.
22:36Furniture for life.
22:39Welcome back to Healthy,
22:40Wealthy and Wise.
22:41Now, if you love
22:42a good before and after,
22:44you are going to love this.
22:48Sitting with me
22:48is Amy Stanton.
22:50Amy, welcome.
22:52Thanks, ma'am.
22:52Now, we did just meet
22:54a snake that eats
22:56a rabbit once a week.
22:58Have you eaten a goat
22:59or is there something?
23:02Just a few too many beers.
23:04No, I'm expecting a baby
23:06in, yeah, not long now.
23:07A few weeks.
23:08Well, we'd better get cracking
23:09on this segment.
23:11OK, we have set you a mission.
23:14Tell us about that.
23:15Well, we're doing something
23:16called Room Rescue.
23:18And basically,
23:19we put a call out
23:20to families
23:20that have a room,
23:22a space
23:23that needs a bit of TLC.
23:25It might be not functional,
23:27old, outdated.
23:29And then we go in,
23:30give it a cheeky little makeover.
23:32And I tell you what, Chrissie,
23:33this first family
23:34couldn't be any more deserving.
23:36I was so stoked
23:36to help them out with it.
23:38Let's take a look
23:39at your first room rescue.
23:42Casey and Cam
23:42met five years ago.
23:44After the heartbreak
23:45of losing their son
23:46at 25 weeks,
23:47they now cherish
23:48the family of four
23:49they always dreamt of.
23:51I'm a mum of a toddler
23:52with another one on the way.
23:54I know how hard it is
23:55for a house
23:56to feel unfinished.
23:58Did the kitchen,
24:00started this room.
24:02That's where it stopped.
24:03We had this little surprise
24:04down here.
24:05Who come along?
24:06So time and money
24:07just went elsewhere.
24:08We have had the walls
24:09plastered for about six months.
24:11We have had a blanket
24:14as a curtain
24:14for about six months.
24:15Also, this room
24:17needs to be rescued.
24:20It got plastered
24:21when I was 38 weeks pregnant
24:23and it wasn't ideal
24:24but we needed to get it
24:25to a livable state
24:27before a newborn.
24:28Yeah.
24:29And from one kid
24:30to two kids,
24:31no one tells you
24:32how hard it is.
24:33It's a completely different spectrum.
24:34Everything in that space
24:36was put on the back burner.
24:37We had bigger priorities,
24:38bigger issues
24:39to worry about.
24:42Okay, Casey's house.
24:44This is a classic episode
24:46of have a small family,
24:49then you have all these
24:50big plans to get things done
24:51and they just don't happen.
24:54Wall's half done,
24:55floor's half done.
24:57They've emptied out the space.
24:58It's actually
24:59a little bit bigger
25:00than I thought.
25:01We're at the gateway
25:02of the beautiful Yarra Valley here
25:04so I really want to bring
25:05those outside colours in.
25:07Your soft greens,
25:08your sages,
25:09your terracottas
25:10and just make it a space
25:11where you just sit down
25:13with your family
25:14and it's chill
25:15and you're walking here
25:16and you're like,
25:17ah, I love my life.
25:18First things first
25:20is painting.
25:22The walls have been plastered
25:23and ready for months.
25:25Time to get the job done.
25:28A warm white
25:28will allow me to bring in
25:29pops of colour
25:30through the furniture
25:31and homewares
25:32and complement
25:32some much needed new flooring.
25:36All right, Rowan,
25:37the floors.
25:38What are your first thoughts
25:40on them?
25:40So it is going to take
25:42a lot more work
25:43than we first thought.
25:44A bit of grinding to do,
25:46a bit of levelling to do
25:47to make it flat
25:48but we'll get there.
25:50All right,
25:51let's get into it.
25:52The last thing I want
25:54is for Casey and Cam
25:55to walk around
25:56on bumpy, creaky floors
25:57so good prep
25:58is essential.
26:00Taking the time
26:01to prep properly
26:01means the finish
26:02will look amazing
26:04and last for years.
26:10Laying over hardwood floors
26:13can be a touchy subject
26:15for some
26:15but the hardwood floors
26:17have seen
26:18way better days
26:19and moving forward
26:20with maintenance,
26:21keeping them clean,
26:23they're the way to go
26:23and they're going to look amazing.
26:25As much as I'd love
26:26to stick around and help,
26:28a girl's got to shop.
26:29All right, Casey's house.
26:31Number one thing,
26:32you need a comfortable couch.
26:34The tossing up
26:35between leather
26:37and fabric.
26:39Leather's great
26:39because you can wipe it down
26:41but you can't go past,
26:43especially in Melbourne,
26:44the warmth and comfort.
26:46On a fabric couch
26:48like this,
26:49this might be a winner.
26:50Look at this.
26:52It's beautiful.
26:53I really want to bring in
26:55kind of curved edges,
26:56just soften up the space
26:58and it's kid-friendly
26:59because there isn't
27:00so much pointiness going on.
27:03And this buffet
27:03looks like
27:05the perfect showstopper.
27:07Look how much storage
27:09there is
27:09to chuck all your kids' toys
27:11in there
27:11and it's a beautiful piece.
27:23Matches the floors
27:24so well.
27:27Beautiful.
27:27We're on.
27:29She's going to be tight.
27:30That was close.
27:34This nearly had to be
27:35an entryway couch
27:36but we got it in.
27:37I want it about
27:38five centimetres off the wall
27:40because it's quite a small space
27:41and actually,
27:43if you leave it
27:43about five centimetres off,
27:45it creates a shadow line
27:46and makes it look bigger.
27:48Magic.
27:49Now,
27:49always love to go a bit oversized
27:51with the rug
27:53and the trick is
27:55don't have it there,
27:58always chuck it
27:59just under the first leg.
28:01Makes the space look bigger.
28:05Oh,
28:05I need a nap after that.
28:12Look at those colours.
28:15Just bringing in
28:18those natural terracottas
28:20and green
28:20and soft browns.
28:23Yep.
28:24Perfect.
28:25These dining chairs,
28:27even the tactical curve
28:28on them
28:29to match the curve
28:30on the buffet.
28:32Curve on the dining table
28:34and then we mixed it up
28:36with a bit of sharp edges
28:37on the occasional chair.
28:39Love your work, Chris.
28:44They look amazing.
28:45It just softens
28:47the whole space.
28:48This room
28:49is just
28:50a pump.
28:53Alright, guys.
28:54No peeking.
28:56Remember what it looked like
28:56before
28:57we had
28:58the iconic
28:59blanket
29:00up on
29:01the window.
29:02Floors.
29:03There was stuff
29:04everywhere.
29:05On the count of three,
29:07open your eyes, right?
29:09One.
29:10Two.
29:11Three.
29:14Oh, my God.
29:19Oh, my God.
29:22It is amazing.
29:24Yeah, it is.
29:27You guys deserve it.
29:29You deserve it.
29:30I know you're going
29:30to make me cry.
29:32Look at those
29:32planes.
29:34We've got these
29:34beautiful shears up.
29:35Look at that.
29:36I don't want to say
29:37that are you.
29:37New flooring,
29:38so much easier
29:39to maintain.
29:40Yeah, the floors
29:41are unbelievable.
29:42Paint job.
29:43Everything is so bright
29:44and lively.
29:45Beautiful new furniture.
29:47Wow.
29:48I can't.
29:49I'm so grateful.
29:50I've never had something
29:53so nice in my life.
29:55I am literally shook.
29:57It would be nice
29:57to come home to you.
29:59Oh, it is heavenly.
30:01Yeah.
30:03We would have never
30:03made it look this good.
30:05We are forever grateful
30:07and cannot thank you enough.
30:08You both deserve it so much.
30:10So many memories
30:11are going to be created in here.
30:12It's amazing.
30:12Amazing.
30:13And just like that,
30:17new floor,
30:18new furniture
30:19and a whole new vibe.
30:21You make it look so easy.
30:23Make it look easy
30:24is the key word there, Chrissy.
30:26At home,
30:27it's pretty hectic.
30:28I've got a toddler,
30:29another baby on the way
30:30and my toolkit
30:31always gets lost
30:32or it's full of Lego
30:33or something like that.
30:35I relate to that so much.
30:37My kids seem to think
30:37that yogurt's for wall art.
30:39Yeah, but Ash,
30:41the best form of DIY,
30:42if you can do something
30:44and your kids can't break it,
30:45you know you've built it well.
30:47Like, you've smashed it.
30:48Yes.
30:49Interior design
30:50by Chaos Goblins.
30:53Please stick around.
30:54Linda is just around the corner
30:56with her brand new look.
30:58See you soon.
31:07Welcome back to
31:08Healthy, Wealthy and Wise.
31:09Now, earlier,
31:10we met an incredible woman
31:12from just outside Bendigo.
31:14Firefighter, a mum,
31:16someone who's always
31:17putting others first.
31:18Now, with Chica's help,
31:20she's going to have
31:21a full wardrobe revamp,
31:22clothes that push her confidence
31:24through the roof
31:25and now,
31:26it's time for the big reveal.
31:30Hello, lovely ladies.
31:32Hello.
31:32How are you, folks?
31:33Lovely to see you.
31:34So good to see you.
31:36Are we ready to go shopping?
31:37Sure I am.
31:38Let's do it.
31:40We're going to meet Donna.
31:42Donna, this is Ashley and Linda.
31:44Welcome to Blue Illusion.
31:46Black.
31:46Black.
31:47More black.
31:48So our beautiful Linda
31:49only wears black.
31:50Yes.
31:50And we're going to take her
31:51away from black.
31:53There's some nice black here.
31:55Yeah, for you though.
31:55Well, I'm wearing black today
31:57so I, you know.
31:59Not allowed to have black.
32:00Black and white.
32:01Black and white.
32:02But I thought the Bendigo
32:03jean was a perfect place
32:04to start because there's
32:05so many varieties of
32:06colours and shapes
32:07and I think you'll love
32:08these jeans because
32:09they're easy to pull on.
32:10They'll look great
32:11on your body type.
32:12And they're stretchy.
32:12And they're stretchy.
32:13You can run in them.
32:14Yeah.
32:14You can sleep in them.
32:22The cardigan.
32:23Not something I would
32:24ever pick off the rack
32:25but I'm happy to give it a crack.
32:26I'm going to try it.
32:30In you go.
32:32Oh, hang on.
32:33I've got to figure out
32:34how to undo jeans.
32:37I really like that.
32:38This is a great piece too.
32:40You know, it's got the nice arms.
32:42Love, love, love.
32:43What about a wide leg pant
32:44like this?
32:44I love the way they fall.
32:45They're how beautiful, aren't they?
32:46Yeah.
32:47That's just not my colour.
32:48I like it.
32:49Oh, of course you're not.
32:51It's the colour on her eyes,
32:52isn't it?
32:53I really like the detail
32:54on the cuffs there.
32:56This is not going so well.
33:01These pants.
33:02Oh, yes, I like those.
33:04You could wear it
33:05with a little white T-shirt
33:06and a jacket over the top.
33:07See, I think that they're
33:08way more versatile.
33:09It's a good colour.
33:10Do you like the pants?
33:11I love the pants.
33:12Yeah.
33:12This looks great.
33:14That is a strong look for you.
33:16That's a lovely jacket.
33:18Look at you go, Linda.
33:19I love it.
33:20You're going to go,
33:20no, Chica,
33:22but let's just try it
33:23because we can.
33:24No, Chica.
33:26This one?
33:28Stop it.
33:29This is beautiful.
33:31What do you think
33:31of the sneakers?
33:32Nice.
33:33I love it.
33:33Yeah.
33:33And you don't have to
33:34undo the shoelaces
33:35to get them on.
33:37These are nice, Chica.
33:37These have got a bit
33:38of a wide leg on them.
33:39It's all about the pockets
33:40on the hips at the moment.
33:41Yep.
33:42Ooh.
33:43I like this one.
33:44You could have the front
33:45tucked in and have the back out.
33:47Makes your legs look longer.
33:48I think you need more colour
33:49underneath that jacket.
33:50Oh, that's a lot of green.
33:53It's a lot of green.
33:54They look really good.
34:10Ashley, are you excited
34:11to see your mum?
34:12Yes, very.
34:13I'm going to expect
34:14a little tear, you know.
34:15A little reaction.
34:15No?
34:16No.
34:16I'm going to pinch you.
34:18Still won't work.
34:19Don't challenge me.
34:24How are you going in there,
34:25Linda?
34:25Have you checked yourself out?
34:27I have.
34:27Do you look hush?
34:28I didn't even think
34:29that was possible.
34:31OK, Linda, we're ready.
34:38Ooh!
34:40Look at you.
34:41That looks awesome.
34:42Doesn't she look good?
34:44Oh, my God.
34:45Look at this body
34:47hiding under those tracksuits.
34:48Yay!
34:50Well, you know,
34:51I said to you,
34:51no black.
34:52Yeah.
34:52But what I have done,
34:53knowing that you are
34:54a black wearer,
34:55is showing you
34:55that you can wear
34:56a bit of colour with black.
34:57It doesn't have to be
34:58all black.
34:59But it's black enough
35:01that I'm comfortable.
35:02Good.
35:02And what about the hair?
35:03I'm loving the curl
35:04being more exaggerated.
35:05Nigel's got a superpower.
35:06Yeah.
35:07Yeah.
35:07Your face looks just stunning.
35:09You look so beautiful.
35:11I'm very proud of you
35:12because I know
35:13this is a big deal
35:14and you look amazing.
35:16It's just a joy
35:16to see you
35:17looking so wonderful.
35:18Amazing.
35:19I'm really stoked with it.
35:20Well, I think
35:21our job here is done.
35:22I'm absolutely thrilled.
35:24Feels great.
35:25Whee!
35:25You look so beautiful.
35:44I had a fantastic time.
35:45Thank you both so much
35:47for coming.
35:48And enjoy.
35:50It's locked.
35:51Bye.
35:57Bye.
35:59That was unbelievable.
36:02I know.
36:03She just looks so confident
36:05and now she's got
36:05all those extra options
36:07that aren't black.
36:08Yes.
36:09She's not just a firefighter.
36:11She's now a whole smoke show.
36:12Yep.
36:14Yes.
36:15No, it absolutely is amazing
36:17and, you know,
36:17confidence doesn't have to be loud.
36:19It can sometimes just be
36:20but it's good if it is sometimes.
36:25All right.
36:26Well done.
36:27I know it's early days
36:28but that could be
36:29my favourite segment.
36:31After the break,
36:31we are going to be joining
36:32Vincent Dim Sim Lim.
36:35My God, I'm so hungry.
36:36I'm salivating just at the thought.
36:38We'll see you soon.
36:38Welcome back to Healthy,
36:45Wealthy and Wise.
36:46OK, it is time now
36:47for No Dumb Questions.
36:50It's the safe place to ask
36:51what you actually want to know.
36:53Expect honest answers
36:55and a little hairspray.
36:57Let's go.
37:01My name is Patrick Stone.
37:03I am a barber
37:04and there are
37:05No Dumb Questions.
37:07Let's start.
37:08Ellie Kay asks,
37:10What's the weirdest request
37:11you have ever had
37:12in your chair?
37:14Well,
37:15someone came in
37:16and asked a scarlet
37:17which is
37:18shaved everything here
37:20and then here
37:20you have the malet going down.
37:22People ask
37:23really weird questions
37:24but I like it actually.
37:26You know,
37:27it keeps life spicy.
37:28Jesse W wonders,
37:30Is it really bad
37:32to shampoo every day?
37:34Shampoo can damage your hair.
37:36The most important point
37:37is just this.
37:38Invest in good shampoo
37:40and conditioner.
37:41There are better qualities
37:42so the thing is
37:43you don't have to do like this
37:45just a little bit
37:46unless it's more
37:46and if I say that
37:48I mean it
37:48because normally
37:49unless it's never more.
37:50Lily F asks,
37:52What's the best way
37:53to tell your barber
37:54you don't like the haircut
37:55they have given you?
37:57Be brutally honest.
37:58No one has the right
37:59to be angry at you
38:00but the worst thing is
38:02if you never gave me
38:03the chance
38:04to fix my mistake
38:05or just restyle something
38:07which you didn't like
38:08and it goes out
38:09and you tell people
38:10you were not happy with me
38:11because that would
38:12break my heart.
38:13Wow,
38:14I get emotional.
38:16Vivian L asks,
38:18How do you deal
38:19with someone's hair
38:20when it's really gross?
38:21If someone has really gross
38:23or greasy hair
38:24I'm a little bit
38:25of a weird, kinky person
38:27so I like it.
38:28No, just kidding.
38:29If it's extra gross
38:30you're just going to
38:31shampoo it three more times
38:33you know
38:33that's not a big deal.
38:36Alex T asks,
38:37What's the most common mistake
38:40people make
38:40with their hair at home?
38:42Well,
38:43it's not COVID
38:44isolation times anymore
38:45so don't use the trimmer
38:47or scissors
38:47on your own hair.
38:48I have made many people
38:50who have always
38:51made the same mistakes
38:52and then come
38:53and ask us for help
38:54and the problem is
38:55if it's too short
38:56darling we can't go
38:58any shorter.
38:59I mean
39:00you wouldn't operate
39:01on yourself
39:01you're not a surgeon
39:02isn't it?
39:03So,
39:04the professionals
39:04are here to help you.
39:08What's up guys
39:09my name is Vincent
39:09I'm the food expert.
39:11Don't want to fly 14 hours
39:12to eat American burgers?
39:14Well,
39:14you don't have to.
39:15I'm going to show you guys
39:16the best way
39:16to make down and out burgers.
39:19Let's get into it.
39:20Very first step
39:21is to preheat
39:22this hot plate.
39:23At home
39:24you can use a pan,
39:25flat top,
39:25barbecue outside,
39:26whatever you like.
39:27We're using a wok burner today.
39:28Let that heat up
39:29and we're going to
39:30make the sauce.
39:32Mayonnaise
39:32in the bowl.
39:34Relish.
39:36Tomato sauce
39:37and mustard.
39:39A little bit
39:40of white vinegar.
39:44Paprika
39:44for the colour.
39:47A little bit
39:47of salt and pepper.
39:49And that's it.
39:50Super easy sauce.
39:51The sauce is like
39:52an American style burger.
39:55Okay,
39:56now the hot plate is hot.
39:57I'm just going to
39:58turn down that heat.
40:00Add a splash of oil.
40:02Onions.
40:04On the hot plate.
40:07The natural sugars
40:08from the onion
40:08is going to caramelise
40:09it slowly.
40:10We're going to turn
40:10it all the way down.
40:12It's just going to
40:12take a couple of minutes
40:13on the pan.
40:13We're just going to get
40:15these onions nice and brown.
40:17Even colour.
40:19If you find your onions
40:20are drying out
40:20before they go brown,
40:22you can add a little bit
40:23of water,
40:23just a little splash,
40:25just to keep it
40:25hydrated again.
40:27There we go.
40:30Boom.
40:30Done.
40:31Now we're going to be doing
40:32the burger patties.
40:33We just have some ground beef here.
40:35What I'm going to add first
40:36is onion powder
40:38and garlic powder.
40:41Now we add a little bit
40:42of Dijon mustard.
40:44A tiny bit of oil.
40:45This is going to help
40:46it keep moist.
40:48Secret ingredient.
40:50This is meat velvet.
40:51What this does is
40:52it's going to tenderise
40:53the burger.
40:54It's going to keep
40:54everything juicy
40:55on the inside
40:55and the outside
40:56is going to get
40:57a nice crust on there.
40:58Now we're going to add
40:59yum yum.
41:00This is a little bit
41:01of MSG.
41:03It's going to bring out
41:03that natural flavour
41:04so you can taste
41:05the original flavour
41:06of the burger
41:06so much more
41:07and salt and pepper.
41:10Now everything's in there.
41:11We're going to give it
41:12all a mix
41:12and get all the flavouring
41:14mixed in.
41:16One giant meatball first
41:18and then we're going to
41:21split it to
41:2280 gram balls.
41:24A little bit of oil
41:25to our hot plate
41:26just to stop it
41:27from sticking
41:28beef ball
41:30onto the plate.
41:32This is a patty smasher.
41:34This is going to be able
41:35to press everything
41:36on there
41:36so it gets
41:37the maximum contact
41:39onto that hot plate
41:40but this thing sticks
41:42so what you want to do
41:44is use a piece
41:44of parchment paper
41:45and press it on there.
41:47Then it makes it
41:47nice and easy
41:48to pull it off.
41:49There you go.
41:50No stick
41:51and no mess.
41:53Perfect smash burgers.
41:56Anything that's
41:56on a hot plate
41:57if you can't hear
41:58that sizzle
41:58then the fire's
41:59not hot enough.
42:00You've got to
42:00turn it up a little bit.
42:02And we're going
42:03to put the burger
42:04buns on.
42:06Now once the cheese
42:07is melted
42:07burger buns should
42:08be nice and soft
42:09and we're ready
42:10to plate up.
42:16Woo!
42:17I'm drooling
42:18just looking at this.
42:21Alright guys
42:21I'm so excited.
42:23Look at these
42:24American style
42:26down and out burgers
42:27made right here
42:29in Australia.
42:30That looks so good.
42:31I'm Dim Sim Lim
42:33and I'll catch you
42:33guys next time.
42:36Perfect.
42:37And on that
42:38very delicious note
42:38that is it.
42:39The very first episode
42:40of Healthy Wealthy
42:41and Wise 2.0
42:43is in the bag
42:45and you didn't
42:45ruin it.
42:46I'm shocked
42:46I didn't cry.
42:47It's amazing.
42:48I am in absolute
42:49shock.
42:49And TBH
42:50I thought
42:51during that
42:52makeover segment
42:53there was going
42:53to be a tear or two.
42:54Oh it was touch
42:54and go.
42:55I know me too.
42:56I am a crier.
42:56I did the pageant.
42:58Yeah.
42:59It's been a bit
42:59of everything
43:00hasn't it?
43:01Informative,
43:01surprising
43:02and genuinely fun
43:03hanging with you Ash.
43:04I never thought
43:05I'd say that.
43:05Such kind
43:06such kind of word.
43:07You sound like my mum.
43:10Next week
43:11I have lost
43:12my confidence.
43:13A makeover
43:14so extraordinary
43:15you just won't
43:16believe it.
43:17Oh my gosh
43:18you look
43:19magnificent.
43:20And the shocking
43:23things that people
43:24are pouring into
43:25their eyes
43:25thanks to social
43:27media.
43:27That is incredibly
43:28dangerous.
43:30Until then
43:30relax.
43:32You've done enough
43:33for one day.
43:34We'll see you next
