00:00The United Nations and Games organizers are calling for a 52-day pause in all wars worldwide,
00:06ahead of the Milan Cortina Winter Olympics, which begin on February 6.
00:12Supporters of the initiative, rooted in an ancient Greek tradition, say it sets a moral baseline at a time when armed conflicts are on the rise.
00:21The proposed time-out covers the February 6 to 22 Winter Games and the March 6 to 15 Paralympics,
00:28with the week added on either side. It is backed by a UN General Assembly resolution.
00:51The Olympics were revived in modern form in 1896, and the first modern Olympic truce took place during the 1994 Winter Games in Lillehammer, Norway.
