A mom battling cancer thought she was just seeing her daughter’s new haircut, but she was stunned to learn the hair had been donated to make a wig for her. Brooke Skinner, 30, from Annapolis, Maryland, said that as soon as she heard the sad news of her mom Teresa's breast cancer diagnosis, she knew, deep down, that her mom would be most devastated about the prospect of losing her hair. Teresa, 69, is a strong woman, Brooke said, so she would perhaps not outwardly express this, but once the pair had finished a call breaking the news, Brooke burst into tears before deciding she wanted to do something to help. The 30-year-old had long hair at the time, and so she immediately started looking into ways she could donate her hair to make a wig for her mother. To Brooke's surprise, such companies did exist, and having found a wigmaker, she raised funds online and booked an appointment with her stylist. Teresa had not seen her daughter's social media posts to raise funds for the wig, so Brooke decided to plan a surprise to break the news to her. She told her mother she was popping by on October 11, 2025, to show off her new haircut, and, on arrival, asked, "Do you like my hair?" A supportive Teresa replied that she did, and so Brooke asked her mom if she would like to have it on her head. At that point, Brooke pulled out a bag of her hair to break the news to her mom, who immediately welled up at the supportive gesture.

00:00I said how would you like to have my hair on your head and she was just in
00:05shock. My mom has always been good about getting her
00:10mammograms and when she came back that's when she found out that it
00:15was cancer. I knew that her losing her hair was going to be the hardest part out of
00:20all of this. Immediately after she told me that she was going to go through chemo it was
00:25instant that I knew I needed to cut my hair for her.
00:30I don't need you. You can die safely in my hair.
00:35That's great. Ready? Here we go.
00:38I made an Instagram.
00:40I knew that they could help me raise money to get
00:45this wig made for my mom because it is not cheap. During that four and a half five
00:50hour appointment by the time I got out we had already exceeded our goal.
00:55I texted her actually on the way home from my hair appointment and was just like hey I really
01:00want to show you my hair. Wow that's a different look.
01:05Tanya. How would you feel to have my hair?
01:10Tanya. How would you feel to have my hair on your head?
01:14Oh my God.
01:15What is the sweetest thing?
01:20It was a very emotional moment to
01:25know that you're giving your mother your hair that
01:30she created for you.
01:31Found a wake maker and so she's...
01:35I'm going to take my hair and she's going to make my hair into a wig for you.
01:40She made my follicles. She made my head.
01:45She made, like, I am here because of her and so to give her...
01:50My hair that she had already created was just, like, the tiniest bit.
01:55Of me giving back to her and showing her my appreciation.
02:00Oh, wow. Look at that.
02:02It really looks good.
02:04Oh, no!
02:05I'm so excited.
02:10I'm so excited.
02:14For her to, like...
02:15run her fingers through her hair, which was my hair, it is a...
02:20very...
02:21It's a surreal experience.
02:23And she just looks so...
02:25beautiful.
02:26And I felt so grateful to be able to do that.
02:30For her.
02:31Do you love it?
02:32I love it.
02:33I love you for doing that.
02:35Of course.
02:36Of course.
02:37To her, it was a huge sacrifice, but to me, it really...
02:40wasn't.
