A three-year-old with alopecia beamed with happiness when a wig made from hair her mom donated was placed on her head for the first time. When Lorelai Rojas was a year old, her mom, Rubi, 23, from Los Angeles, California, noticed her daughter had some patchy hair loss. Having been referred to a dermatologist, Lorelai was diagnosed with alopecia areata, an autoimmune disease that attacks the hair follicles. Rubi tried a number of treatments for her daughter, but when Lorelai was still left with just strands of hair, she made the difficult decision to shave her daughter's head. That period was extremely tough, Rubi admitted, as she was worried about how other children would treat her daughter, and Rubi started to ask when her hair was coming. She would also express her love of playing with her mom and grandma's hair, and so, after a failed attempt at buying a wig online, Rubi looked into donating her hair to make a wig for her daughter. The 23-year-old discovered Hair With A Cause, a company specializing in hair issues.

00:00She started asking, where's my hair? Why doesn't she have any hair? She was always telling us,
00:04oh, Elsa hair, Belle hair, and all of these princess characters, hairstyles. Everything
00:10started when she was one. It's difficult to see your daughter start losing hair at a very young
00:16age. We did notice it wasn't growing back anymore. It came a bit more aggressive and obviously
00:21completely stopped. We just told her, would you want my hair? She said, yeah. And ever since,
00:26we told her, oh, like, this is your hair. It was so hard to keep that hair onto my head
00:31for so long.
00:33I've never liked long hair ever, ever, but I would do anything for my daughter. She made Lorelai feel
00:39comfortable, like, touch your hair, like, this is your hair, your mama grew this hair out for you.
00:44The day when we saw it, obviously, it was full of emotions. It was amazing. They always said she was
00:49my twin, and like, when she had her hair on, yeah, I saw myself in her.
00:57Like a belt. It's so pretty.
01:08Lorelai is loving her hair. We recently got these little clips. She loved them. She loves wearing
01:16her headbands. Little things like that that go on the hair, like, excite her.
01:22We love her both with hair or without hair. You're more than just your hair. You're beautiful just the way
