The Black Raven is a 1943 American mystery film directed by Sam Newfield. It was produced and released by Producers Releasing Corporation, a leading Poverty Row studio.

Storyline: One dark night, a fearsome rainstorm chases four people to a mysterious motel: a sneering gangster (Noel Madison), an embezzling bank teller (Byron Foulger) and a hopeful couple (Wanda McKay, Bob Randall) who are trying to elope. Shortly after the raging storm wipes out the surrounding roads, the trapped tourists begin to suspect that each of them -- even snooty caretaker Amos Bradford (George Zucco) -- harbors a dark secret. Before long, these discoveries promise money and lead to murder.

00:04:35Come here!
00:04:38Come here, quick!
00:04:42All right, go easy, man. Let's bring his neck.
00:04:44I want to make sure I hit him.
00:04:46No doubt about that.
00:04:50He doesn't know his own strength.
00:04:52Take him to my room. Bring him along.
00:04:58Put him in that chair.
00:05:05What's the matter? Didn't he like to serve us?
00:05:12He's suffering from delusions aggravated by a moronic mentality.
00:05:16Is that bad?
00:05:18Might prove fatal.
00:05:20I hope he didn't catch it.
00:05:22Let up on me, Raven. I won't bother you no more.
00:05:25I'm quite sure you won't bother me anymore.
00:05:27What are you going to do with me?
00:05:29You've still got another ten years to serve. That'll keep you busy for a while.
00:05:32Don't turn me in.
00:05:33I'll promise to leave the country and never come back.
00:05:36I'd be a fool to take a chance on trusting you when I don't have to.
00:06:03By the way, I'll tell you.
00:06:04By the way, I don't know.
00:06:06I love the city.
00:06:08I'll tell you what he's doing.
00:06:10You've come from here.
00:06:11I'm going to take it away.
00:06:13Start by looking for the people.
00:06:14I know, you're good with that, man.
00:06:15You're an excellent teacher.
00:06:16You're not even sure you end your life.
00:06:18You're an excellent teacher.
00:06:20I know.
00:06:22You're an excellent teacher.
00:06:23In your life.
00:06:24Where did you do this?
00:06:26We're a good teacher.
00:06:27We're a good teacher.
00:06:29We're a good teacher.
00:06:30I'm told you can slip a hot guy across the Canadian border.
00:06:46I don't think I know you.
00:06:48I'm Mike Bardoni.
00:06:50You're the Black Raven.
00:06:53Have that must put my car away.
00:06:56Andy?
00:06:56Oh, I'd like to dry up sometime tonight.
00:07:00Maybe you'd like to see today's papers.
00:07:15Is it registered, please?
00:07:16I don't think so.
00:07:17I'm in a hurry to get across the border.
00:07:19It's liable to rain all night. You may as well be comfortable.
00:07:22Well, maybe I'd better.
00:07:30Let's go.
00:07:31Let's go.
00:07:32Let's go.
00:07:33Let's go.
00:07:34Let's go.
00:07:35Let's go.
00:07:36Let's go.
00:07:37Let's go.
00:07:38Let's go.
00:07:39Let's go.
00:07:40Let's go.
00:07:41Let's go.
00:07:42Let's go.
00:07:43Let's go.
00:07:58Mike Bardoni, the big shot.
00:08:00Insolid to the Commission.
00:08:03Taking oil to Canada.
00:08:06What's the answer?
00:08:08My racket's paying off big,
00:08:09so Tim Winfield decides to take over and make me an office boy.
00:08:13When I don't play that way, he tosses me to the coppers.
00:08:17I'll come back when the heat's off and settle with him.
00:08:20Tim Winfield, huh?
00:08:22He's a bad man to fool with.
00:08:23Others have learned the hard way.
00:08:25All right, so it won't be easy.
00:08:28Do you think I got what I did by being a cream puffer?
00:08:30How about some gruff?
00:08:32I didn't take time to stop and eat.
00:08:33I'll see what I can do for you.
00:08:35I'll see what I can do for you.
00:09:00Listen, buddy, the bridge is washed out.
00:09:02You'll have to turn back.
00:09:03Oh, dear, are you sure I can't get through?
00:09:06I just said the bridge was washed out.
00:09:09I'm sorry.
00:09:10But just a minute, mister.
00:09:12Are you sure it's impossible to cross?
00:09:15Listen, buddy, if it was possible to cross,
00:09:18you don't think I would be standing here.
00:09:20Oh, no, of course not, mister.
00:09:22But how am I going to get over?
00:09:25You are nuts!
00:09:27But is there no other way?
00:09:28This is a matter of life and care.
00:09:30Whose?
00:09:31Yours or mine?
00:09:32Oh, please, now you're joking.
00:09:34There must be other roads.
00:09:36Sure there is, but they're all washed out!
00:09:38Well, have you any idea how long it'll be before the bridge will be fixed?
00:09:43That just depends upon how long this storm is going to last.
00:09:48But if you must wait a while, there is a little shack down the road belonging to the highway police.
00:09:55Oh, no, no, if I have to wait, I'd much rather take a room for the night or until the storm subsides.
00:10:00Well, then, turn back about a mile to a place called the Black Raven.
00:10:05They might be able to put you up.
00:10:07Oh, thank you.
00:10:08You are welcome!
00:10:26The bridge has been washed out.
00:10:28You have to turn back.
00:10:30Do you have any idea how long it'll be before we can get through?
00:10:33I'm afraid it won't be for some time.
00:10:35Is there any other way across the border?
00:10:37No, sir.
00:10:38All the other bridges have been washed out, too.
00:10:40Do you know of any place around here that we can stay until the storm blows over?
00:10:43Yeah, a mile back down the road is a place called the Black Raven.
00:10:47I'm sure you can get accommodations there for the night.
00:10:49The Black Raven?
00:10:50The Black Raven.
00:10:50Thank you very much.
00:10:51You're welcome.
00:10:55What are we going to do?
00:10:56I don't know, darling, but we're not going to give up.
00:10:59Even if your father's political influence did keep us from getting a marriage license in this place.
00:11:03I wish we hadn't tried to alone.
00:11:05Why, dear?
00:11:06The father's an indicted man, and I'm afraid he'll make trouble for you.
00:11:09He has no political influence in Canada.
00:11:12We're not in Canada yet.
00:11:13No, but we will be.
00:11:14We'll manage somehow in the morning.
00:11:16I hope so, before father catches up with us.
00:11:18Well, we'd better get out of here before this storm gets any worse.
00:11:21I'm going to get some rain on the Enterprise.
00:11:27I'm here for video clothes.
00:11:29I want to run asblood.
00:11:30I'll run as worse.
00:11:31You have to ride as lethals.
00:11:37pelo amor Vamos, Peter.
00:11:38You have to riddle.
00:11:39I've got your plan?
00:11:42Fork that WINOR.
00:11:44We'll lose your bill, will be for you tomorrow.
00:11:45Let's go in by the afternoon.
00:11:46Or else you'll let go, though.
00:11:48With these earbuds, I'll worship your players.
00:11:49I beg your pardon.
00:12:02I beg your pardon.
00:12:04Yeah? What for?
00:12:06I just beg your pardon, that's all.
00:12:09Don't bother me, scruple.
00:12:12Are you the proprietor?
00:12:14No, no. He's out in the kitchen scaring up something to eat.
00:12:18Good evening.
00:12:19Do you want a room?
00:12:21Yes, the highway bridge was washed out.
00:12:24So I heard. Let me take these.
00:12:27Oh, never mind. I'll carry these.
00:12:30All right. This way, please.
00:12:41Your register, please.
00:12:49You're going to Canada?
00:13:03Yes, I thought I'd spend my vacation up there.
00:13:06Excuse me.
00:13:06Why don't you watch what you're doing.
00:13:17Sorry, pal. I hope I didn't break your bottle of cologne.
00:13:23I'll show you up your room.
00:13:24Oh, Andy, there's another car outside, one's putting away.
00:13:34Another one?
00:13:36Oh, no. If this keeps up, I'll never get dry.
00:13:39Do you let Andy have the key to your car?
00:13:41Oh, yes. Of course.
00:13:45Come with me.
00:13:46Come with me.
00:13:59Nasty weather for traveling.
00:14:00I consider that an understatement.
00:14:02The bridge is washed out, you know.
00:14:03I know. Will you register, please?
00:14:06Yes, thanks.
00:14:07Miss Winfield.
00:14:31Any relation to Tim Winfield?
00:14:33He's my father. Do you know him?
00:14:35I love him by reputation. He's a very prominent man.
00:14:37You see, we lack his blessing.
00:14:39That's why we're planning on being married across the border.
00:14:42I can well understand that.
00:14:48I may as well take you all up at the same time.
00:14:50Fine.
00:14:54Would you pardon me for just a moment?
00:14:59If you're ready, I'll have Andy take you on your way.
00:15:03Oh, there's no hurry.
00:15:04I'll stick around for a while.
00:15:06I, uh, like it here.
00:15:09Suit yourself.
00:15:12I'm sorry.
00:15:13This way, please.
00:15:34I'll be with you in a minute, Mr. Smith.
00:15:46I hope you'll find this room comfortable, Miss Winfield.
00:15:48It's very nice, thank you.
00:15:49I can give you a room across the floor, Mr. Bentley.
00:15:50I'll be with you in just a minute.

00:16:22We'll cross the border and be married in spite of Mr. Winfield and all his henchmen.
00:16:24than all his henchmen.
00:16:31Remember, don't worry.
00:16:54Let's go.
00:17:01Thanks for following me up here, Tim.
00:17:04I didn't follow you.
00:17:06What you do means nothing to me.
00:17:08I wouldn't be surprised if you changed your mind about that.
00:17:11I don't like to be kicked around.
00:17:14I didn't follow you.
00:17:16What you do means nothing to me.
00:17:18I wouldn't be surprised if you changed your mind about that.
00:17:21I don't like to be kicked around.
00:17:24You outgrow your hat, Mike.
00:17:26There's no one the organization can't get along without.
00:17:28I'm glad to hear that,
00:17:30because they may have to get along without you.
00:17:40I've never had such a distinguished guest as Mr. Winfield.
00:17:43You know me.
00:17:45I've had business with you, indirectly.
00:17:49It seems I've gotten wet.
00:17:50Yeah, my car went into the ditch.
00:17:52I had to walk half a mile or so.
00:17:53Oh, that's too bad.
00:17:56But I'll miss you over mine, why don't you?
00:17:58While your coat dries.
00:17:59Thanks.
00:18:00It may help me from catching cold.
00:18:09What business did you have with me, indirectly?
00:18:13I don't think you'll be interested in talking about that now.
00:18:16I'll get a jacket for myself.
00:18:17Excuse me while I get a jacket for myself.
00:18:18Excuse me while I get a jacket for myself.
00:18:20There's another car out there, Mr. Bradford.
00:18:50There's another car out there.
00:18:55Don't worry about that.
00:18:56The prisoner escaped.
00:18:57You have to search the house from top to bottom.
00:19:00You have to find him.
00:19:01Who is looking for?
00:19:02He may be dangerous.
00:19:03He is very dangerous.
00:19:04That's why you must find him right away.
00:19:05Don't make me anxious to find him.
00:19:07Where's Bentley?
00:19:08I've been trying to catch up with him.
00:19:09I don't give information about my guests.
00:19:10You know who I am.
00:19:11You better cooperate with me if you hope to stay in business.
00:19:14You better cooperate with me if you hope to stay in business.
00:19:19I warned you to stay away from my daughter.
00:19:23You brought her here.
00:19:24That's right.
00:19:25As soon as we reach Canada, we're going to be married.
00:19:27You better cooperate with me if you hope to stay in business.
00:19:37I warned you to stay away from my daughter.
00:19:39And you brought her here.
00:19:40That's right.
00:19:41As soon as we reach Canada, we're going to be married.
00:19:43You'll never get to Canada.
00:19:45Look here, Mr. Whitfield.
00:19:47We and I love each other.
00:19:48Not even you can stop us.
00:19:54I could kill you for that.
00:19:55A lot of people have felt that same way about me.
00:19:58But I'm still very much alive.
00:20:01I hope for Lee's sake that you and I might someday be reconciled.
00:20:04But I won't take that, not even from her father.
00:20:06You'll take more than that.
00:20:08I haven't even started on you.
00:20:10Lee isn't quite 21.
00:20:12And I'm going to have you prosecuted for kidnapping.
00:20:15I'll make sure you get the limit.
00:20:17Andy, don't stand around there. Do what I told you.
00:20:25I told you, the state police.
00:20:30Connect me with the headquarters of the state police.
00:20:33That's what I said, the state police.
00:20:38What's going to happen?
00:20:40Why is father calling the police?
00:20:42Call out the marines if he could to keep us from getting married.
00:20:48Operator.
00:20:50Operator, are you asleep?
00:20:51You're asleep.
00:20:55This moon's dead.
00:20:57It was all right a minute ago.
00:20:59You probably noticed there's a bad storm going on.
00:21:02Anything could happen.
00:21:10Once more, I forbid you to marry this fellow.
00:21:12And I expect to be obeyed.
00:21:14You have no right to allow a stubborn prejudice to interfere with my happiness.
00:21:17I'll be the judge of that.
00:21:19We'll go to your room and you'll stay there till I can take you home.
00:21:22You weren't a fool to think you could put anything over on me.
00:21:25We'll see.
00:21:47Keep your chin up.
00:21:48The brakes can always be against you.
00:21:50Thanks.
00:21:51Things look pretty black right now.
00:21:52I'm going to take you home.
00:22:13You dislike Alan because he had the courage to oppose you in politics.
00:22:17I dislike him.
00:22:18That's enough.
00:22:19Why should you care who I marry?
00:22:20You've never shown much affection for me, and you can hardly expect me to show much love for a father.
00:22:25I can't even respect.
00:22:26What do you mean by that?
00:22:28Don't you suppose I can understand the dirty politics that's kept you in power?
00:22:32Do you think I'm such a fool as not to know where you get your money?
00:22:34I can also thank Bentley for turning you against your own father.
00:22:37He had nothing to do with it.
00:22:39I knew about you before I met him.
00:22:40Well, you better start to forget him, because you'll not see him anymore.
00:22:50Help! Help!
00:23:15Someone tried to break into my room.
00:23:17A man or a woman?
00:23:18A man, I suppose.
00:23:19Why would a woman want to break into my room?
00:23:21Yeah, I guess you're right.
00:23:23This is no joking matter. My life may be in danger.
00:23:27All right, all right. I'll go look under the bed for you.
00:23:44Everything's all right here.
00:23:46Someone tried to open that door.
00:23:47That door's locked. It must have rattled in the wind.
00:24:00I don't think so.
00:24:01It sounded exactly as if someone was trying to pick the lawn.
00:24:03It's just your imagination.
00:24:05You look very familiar to me. Where have I seen you before?
00:24:16I'm sure we've never met before.
00:24:18I suppose I remind you of someone else.
00:24:21I never forget a face.
00:24:23Something about you is impressed in my memory.
00:24:27Maybe it's the decorations.
00:24:28You're Horace Weatherby, the missing bank cashier.
00:24:36I've seen your picture in the papers.
00:24:38I don't know what you're talking about.
00:24:40How much did you get away with?
00:24:41I didn't get away with anything.
00:24:43I'm on my vacation and I have a right to go where I like and do what I please.
00:24:47How much did you get away with?
00:24:49I could find out for myself by opening that satchel.
00:24:51No, wait a minute.
00:24:53I'll tell you.
00:24:54$50,000.
00:24:56That's far from being a penis.
00:24:59You better turn that money over to me.
00:25:01No, I won't.
00:25:03This is my last and only chance to live and I won't give it up.
00:25:06All my life I've been nothing but an animated batting machine.
00:25:10I wasn't supposed to have any feelings or emotions.
00:25:12They just wound me up once a week with that little salary check
00:25:15that was supposed to make me tick until the next Saturday.
00:25:18And traveling back and forth to work in that crowded subway
00:25:20with its smell of sweat and garlic.
00:25:23All I could think of was fresh air and the outdoors.
00:25:28I never planned to embezzle any money,
00:25:30but the chance just came one day and I took it.
00:25:32That money goes back where it belongs.
00:25:35I can't give it back now that I've gone this far.
00:25:37I have no desire to see you sent to prison.
00:25:40If I take that money back, you're free to do what you like.
00:25:44It's that or stand trial for embezzlement.
00:25:50I have no idea.
00:27:17What happened?
00:27:19They jumped in from behind.
00:27:23Who?
00:27:24A whole bunch of them.
00:27:26Take your foot out of that clothesline and you won't be attacked anymore.
00:27:32Oh.
00:27:33Well, it could have been a fellow that tried to kill you.
00:27:36How was I?
00:27:37We went to the next stairs.
00:27:38I'm going to look around here for a while and I'll meet you on the second floor.
00:27:44Oh.
00:27:45Oh.
00:27:46Oh.
00:27:47Oh.
00:27:49Oh.
00:27:51Oh.
00:27:53Oh.
00:27:54Oh.
00:27:56Oh.
00:27:58Oh.
00:27:59Oh.
00:29:00It's none of my business.
00:29:26It might be a good idea if you were to keep out of sight for a while.
00:29:30I'm not running away.
00:29:32Help!
00:29:33Help!
00:29:34Help!
00:29:35Help!
00:29:36Help!
00:29:37Help!
00:29:38Help!
00:29:39Help!
00:29:40Help!
00:29:41Help!
00:29:42Help!
00:29:43Help!
00:29:44Help!
00:29:45Help!
00:29:46Help!
00:29:47Look at that. I'm late in your step phone here.
00:29:59Hey, bear.
00:30:11He's dead.
00:30:12Something must have hit him with a terrific blow in the head.
00:30:15Give me a funny feeling when I see him laying there at your room.
00:30:18For a minute, I thought it was you.
00:30:20Did you look around to see if anyone was hiding in the room?
00:30:22No, sir. As soon as I see that corpse, I left right now.
00:30:29Let me out! Let me out of there!
00:30:32You better stay here.
00:30:34Somebody let me out!
00:30:38Somebody let me out here!
00:30:40What happened? Why is everybody so excited?
00:30:45Your father met with an accident.
00:30:47Where is he?
00:30:48It's best for you to stay here.
00:31:11You don't think that I could?
00:31:13Oh, no.
00:31:15No, you couldn't have.
00:31:27Oh, dear. How awful. How did it happen?
00:31:30Evidently, someone didn't like it.
00:31:33It's a very happy thing!
00:31:34It's the baby.
00:31:35Oh...
00:31:38Of course.
00:31:41Oh, dear.
00:31:42Oh, dear.
00:31:43I'm not.
00:31:44Oh, dear, dear.
00:31:45Oh, dear...
00:31:46Uh...
00:31:47Oh, dear, dear.
00:31:48Oh, dear.
00:31:50Oh, dear.
00:31:51Oh, dear, sir.
00:31:52Oh, dear, please.
00:31:54Oh, dear.
00:31:55This is my friend.
00:31:57Oh, dear.
00:31:58There's no one upstairs.
00:32:01One of our guests seems to be missing.
00:32:04Yeah.
00:32:05How about that fellow at the register?
00:32:07John Smith.
00:32:08Well, there's your murderer.
00:32:09Might be.
00:32:10Might be.
00:32:11Yeah.
00:32:12How about that fellow at the register?
00:32:14John Smith.
00:32:15Well, there's your murderer.
00:32:16Might be.
00:32:40Go and see if any of the cars are missing.
00:32:45Make sure that none leaves.
00:32:46Yeah.
00:33:03Come on in and shut the door.
00:33:10Where's that money?
00:33:13Is that the $64 question?
00:33:15Quit stalling.
00:33:16That little shrimp had 50 grand in his satchel.
00:33:18And Winfield took it away from him.
00:33:20And then what?
00:33:21Well, somebody's got that money now.
00:33:23And it could be you.
00:33:25So you killed Winfield.
00:33:27We won't worry about who killed Winfield.
00:33:29Where's that dough?
00:33:30I don't know.
00:33:31Thank you for telling me about it.
00:33:34Well, maybe I'm wrong.
00:33:36I don't know.
00:33:37Maybe that young fella got himself a wedding present.
00:33:39The hard way.
00:33:40Anything's possible.
00:33:41But I don't believe that's the answer.
00:33:42But where's that money now?
00:33:43It isn't the pigeon that could fly home by itself.
00:34:09I don't wonder they wouldn't keep that cellar door locked
00:34:14before somebody breaks their neck.
00:34:16Mr. Bosford!
00:34:17Mr. Bosford!
00:34:18Mr. Bosford!
00:34:19Mr. Bosford!
00:34:20Mr. Bosford!
00:34:21What is it this time?
00:34:22Someone down in the cellar.
00:34:23You probably heard a mouse.
00:34:24I didn't hear it.
00:34:25I seen a shed.
00:34:26Many of the shadows down there.
00:34:27Many of the shadows down there.
00:34:28Yeah, but they stay put.
00:34:29They don't move around.
00:34:30Yeah, but they stay put.
00:34:31They don't move around.
00:34:32In your imagination, you could see the Statue of Liberty do a conger.
00:34:37Mr. Bosford!
00:34:38Mr. Bosford!
00:34:39Mr. Bosford!
00:34:40Mr. Bosford!
00:34:41What is it this time?
00:34:42Someone down in the cellar.
00:34:43You probably heard a mouse.
00:34:44I didn't hear it.
00:34:45I seen a shed.
00:34:46Many of the shadows down there.
00:34:47Yeah, but they stay put.
00:34:48They don't move around.
00:34:49With your imagination, you could see the Statue of Liberty do a conger.
00:34:54Ah, hello, Sheriff.
00:34:55What brings you out on a night like this?
00:34:56The phone operator said someone from here was trying to call the state police.
00:35:00And the phone went dead.
00:35:01That's right.
00:35:02But you won't need them now.
00:35:03No?
00:35:04Why not?
00:35:05Because he's like the phone.
00:35:06Dead.
00:35:07Dead?
00:35:08Dead?
00:35:09Dead?
00:35:10Dead kind of sudden.
00:35:11I think he was murdered.
00:35:12Murdered?
00:35:13Well, you act like that's nothing to get excited about.
00:35:14Where's the body?
00:35:15You have to go upstairs.
00:35:16All right, lead the way.
00:35:17Don't any of you leave this room.
00:35:18Don't any of you leave this room.
00:35:19He's like the phone, dead.
00:35:21Yeah, he died kind of sudden, didn't he?
00:35:25I think he was murdered.
00:35:26Murdered?
00:35:28Well, you act like that's nothing to get excited about.
00:35:31Where's the body?
00:35:32You have to go upstairs.
00:35:33All right, lead the way.
00:35:35Don't any of you leave this room.
00:35:49There he is.
00:36:02Who is it?
00:36:03Tim Winfield.
00:36:05Tim Winfield?
00:36:07Why, he's one of the big men of the state.
00:36:10They've got to land someone for this murder.
00:36:13That ought to be easy for a man of your ability.
00:36:16Don't you worry about my ability.
00:36:20What do you know about this murder?
00:36:22No more than you do at the moment.
00:36:24Well, I'll decide about that later.
00:36:27Who found the body?
00:36:29Andy.
00:36:30He was looking for an escaped convict.
00:36:34So you think you can explain this murder
00:36:36by pulling an imaginary convict out of behalf of you?
00:36:38Oh, I thought you could do better than that.
00:36:41Let's go downstairs.
00:36:43I want to talk to Andy before I do any more investigating.
00:36:46You found the body, Andy?
00:36:47Uh-huh.
00:36:48Are you sure he was dead when you found him?
00:36:49Well, he didn't say whether he was or not.
00:36:50And I didn't stop to ask no questions.
00:36:51Hey!
00:36:52You ain't thinking maybe I've done it.
00:36:53Never mind what I'm thinking.
00:36:54You answer my question.
00:36:55Well, I didn't have no reason to kill nobody.
00:36:56But he did.
00:36:57To keep his death from being arrested for kidnapping.
00:36:58Well, I didn't think I was killed.
00:36:59I don't know.
00:37:00You know, I didn't think I've done it.
00:37:01I'm not thinking that I've done it.
00:37:02I'm not thinking.
00:37:03You answer my question.
00:37:04I didn't have no reason to kill nobody.
00:37:05But he did.
00:37:06To keep his death from being arrested for kidnapping.
00:37:07They had a fight right here in this here room.
00:37:08And I heard him say he could kill the other fellow.
00:37:09So, you had a fight for the corpse, huh?
00:37:10Well, I don't think I've done it.
00:37:11I don't think I've done it.
00:37:12I don't think I've done it.
00:37:13I don't think I've done it.
00:37:14I don't think I've done it.
00:37:15I don't think I've done it.
00:37:16I don't know what I'm thinking.
00:37:17You answer my question.
00:37:18Well, I didn't have no reason to kill nobody.
00:37:19But he did.
00:37:20To keep his death from being arrested for kidnapping.
00:37:21They had a fight right here in this here room.
00:37:23And I heard him say he could kill the other fellow.
00:37:26So, you had a fight for the corpse, huh?
00:37:28My father objected to Alan and I being married.
00:37:29That was all.
00:37:30Let him answer my question.
00:37:31And I'm warning you, whatever you say can be used against you.
00:37:34Where were you when the murder was committed?
00:37:35Right here in this room.
00:37:36Who was with you?
00:37:37No one.
00:37:38I was with you.
00:37:39No one.
00:37:40I was with you.
00:37:41No one.
00:37:42I was with you.
00:37:43No one.
00:37:44I was with you.
00:37:45No one.
00:37:46No one.
00:37:47No one.
00:37:48No one.
00:37:49No one.
00:37:50No one.
00:37:51I was alone.
00:37:52Well, that's not much of an alibi.
00:37:54And the corpse was trying to call the state police to have you arrested for kidnapping.
00:37:59Well, you can't beat that for a motive.
00:38:02I guess we can call this crime solved without much trouble.
00:38:06You're more stupid than usual, Sheriff.
00:38:09That boy isn't a murderer.
00:38:11Maybe you're mixed up in this too.
00:38:14I've had my suspicion about your business here at the Tavern for a long while.
00:38:18Yes.
00:38:19I noticed that.
00:38:20It's been very amusing.
00:38:21Yeah.
00:38:22Well, maybe it won't be so funny one of these days.
00:38:26You come with me while I finish looking around upstairs.
00:38:29You better stay here now.
00:38:30No.
00:38:31I'm going with you.
00:38:32Don't stay there and argue.
00:38:33Come on.
00:38:34Come on.
00:38:35Come on.
00:38:40It's too bad you weren't born without a tongue instead of without a brain.
00:38:44Well, I didn't want him to think I did it.
00:38:46Oh, right.
00:38:47He doesn't think you've done it.
00:38:48So get out.
00:38:49Yes.
00:39:04You're not planning on having John Law get me out of your way, are you?
00:39:13You're not in my way.
00:39:15I'm not going to have that boy take a rap for a murder he didn't commit.
00:39:19Oh, the Ravens turned soft all of a sudden.
00:39:22He just wants to get the kid out of the jam.
00:39:25He's not a bit interested in the 50 grand.
00:39:27Believe it or not, that's the way it is.
00:39:29I don't believe it.
00:39:30That does around here someplace and nobody elbows me out of the way.
00:39:59I beg your pardon?
00:40:11What's the idea of pushing me down the stairs?
00:40:14I don't really want to push you.
00:40:28Maybe it was an accident.
00:40:29What do you want?
00:40:30You have the keys to my car.
00:40:31Will you give them to me please?
00:40:32No.
00:40:33Mr. Bradford says no one wants to leave here.
00:40:35But the Sheriff has the murderer.
00:40:36There's no longer need for the rest of us to remain.
00:40:39But the sheriff has the murderer, there's no need for the rest of us to remain.
00:40:43Mr. Bradford says no one leaves, and no one leaves until he tells me different.
00:40:47But I'm afraid to stay here, I know there's going to be more violence.
00:40:50And my nerves can't stand that sort of thing.
00:40:52They have no use arguing.
00:40:53If I can stand it, you can't. Come on, get up.
00:40:57You'd better confess.
00:40:58It'll save me the trouble of looking for the murder weapon.
00:41:01And it'll be easier on you.
00:41:03I have nothing to confess.
00:41:04He couldn't do a thing like that, Sheriff. You must believe me.
00:41:07The lady, you've got to cooperate with the law or keep quiet.
00:41:10If you would allow anyone to cooperate, you might not make such a fool of yourself.
00:41:14When I want your advice, I'll ask for it.
00:41:16You're going to have my advice whether you want it or not.
00:41:18You're trying to pin a murder on the wrong man.
00:41:22You said that sure he's innocent. Maybe you're guilty.
00:41:25Maybe I am. You don't know that I'm not.
00:41:28Are you confessing to the murder?
00:41:30Certainly not.
00:41:31I'm merely trying to point out that you don't know who's guilty.
00:41:34You're just trying to confuse me, that's all.
00:41:36He's guilty.
00:41:37And I'll have no trouble to convict him.
00:41:40Come on, get in there.
00:41:42You know better than I am.
00:41:43No, you stand.
00:41:45Where did Winfield go when he took that money away from you?
00:41:47I don't know what you're talking about.
00:41:48Quit stalling. I heard the whole thing.
00:41:50Maybe Winfield hid that money someplace.
00:41:52Where'd he go?
00:41:53I don't know.
00:41:55Hey, did you kill Winfield?
00:42:01Don't say a thing like that again.
00:42:03Somebody might think you meant it.
00:42:13Now, why don't you confess and take life instead of the chair?
00:42:16I tell you, you have nothing to confess.
00:42:18Oh, now, you're just being foolish, that's all.
00:42:20You can't beat this case.
00:42:22Tim Winfield's got a lot of important friends,
00:42:24and they'll make it their business to see that you're convicted.
00:42:27You've run out and run!
00:42:32Turn me in!
00:42:33Turn me in!
00:42:34Turn me in!
00:42:35Turn me in!
00:42:36Turn me in!
00:42:41You've done that on purpose!
00:42:42I'm terribly sorry. I hope you didn't hurt yourself.
00:42:44Turn me in!
00:42:46Down!
00:42:47Down!
00:43:17Down!
00:43:21Down!
00:43:22Down!
00:43:23Down!
00:43:24Down!
00:43:33Down!
00:43:35In my sense you won't kill 합yang.
00:43:37I'm sorry he made that difference.
00:43:38This is his only right 6-minute point.
00:43:40That wicked local team will just be a bit too lucky to train him.
00:43:41To get him out of the way.
00:43:43Let's go.
00:44:13Let's go.
00:44:43Let's go.
00:45:13Let's go.
00:45:14Hey!
00:45:15Find where you want.
00:45:18Don't try to make another break.

00:46:27I thought so, too.
00:46:29It must have been the thunder.
00:46:31It wasn't thunder.
00:46:32I was standing by the window when I saw the gun flight.
00:46:35I'm afraid Alan's been hurt.
00:46:37Don't be scared.
00:46:38Don't you be frightened.
00:46:39He had plenty of time to get away.
00:46:40He might have tried to come back on my account.
00:46:43Don't worry about something that probably never happened.
00:46:46Why doesn't that copper come downstairs and go on about his business?
00:47:03Hmm?
00:47:04I really don't know.
00:47:05Maybe the Raven has cooking up something with him to put the skids under me.
00:47:16Maybe one of you knows where that money is.
00:47:23Anyway, I'm not giving you a chance to scram with that dough while my back's turned.
00:47:28But I assure you...
00:47:29Don't mind about that.
00:47:30I'll see that you'll stay put.
00:47:31Come on.
00:47:32Start moving.
00:47:43Get down those stairs.
00:47:44I don't like it down there.
00:47:46Neither do I.
00:47:47Who asked you what you like?
00:47:48Get down there!
00:47:57I guess that'll hold you.
00:48:07Don't hide it down here.
00:48:08I've seen a shadow creeper along the wall.
00:48:11What are we going to do?
00:48:14We may have to fight for our lives.
00:48:44I've seen a shadow creeper just out of my moving.
00:48:45We may try to get a greeny window.
00:48:46How would I get a blue event of my house checks all the dawns that Вид just took your time?
00:48:47We may have to fight for our lives.
00:48:49We may have to fight for something.
00:48:50I wish I could stop.
00:48:51I got it again.
00:48:53Whenever I could die.
00:48:54I do not tie.
00:48:57If you find a rough way without a medium.
00:48:58What do I do?
00:48:59I keep?
00:49:00Who does the future come?
00:49:01I get to look after my regiment.
00:49:03How am I seeing on the Volks?
00:49:05We may see?
00:49:06I never give my smile.
00:49:07I do not dare a written car wash for my segunda.
00:49:09Oh.
00:49:10común.
00:49:11I won't be darned there.
00:49:12Now, where's that copper?
00:49:26Outside, catching cold, I hope.
00:49:28Maybe the gal here knows something.
00:49:30She could have been flipped the satchel.
00:49:31What's he talking about?
00:49:33He has an idea that someone has a satchel full of money.
00:49:35Now, you're not kidding anyone.
00:49:37There's 50 grand around here someplace.
00:49:38There's also a murder to be cleared up.
00:49:40If you don't stop talking about that, there's have to be another one.
00:50:10There's no way to go.
00:50:13There's no way to go.
00:50:15I don't know.
00:50:17I should be driving, but...
00:50:19I'm not kidding.
00:50:21I'm not kidding.
00:50:24I'm not kidding.
00:50:26I'm not kidding.
00:50:27I'm not kidding.
00:50:28I'm not kidding.
00:50:30I'm not kidding.
00:50:31Let's go.
00:51:01Now you're quite satisfied, no money's here, perhaps you'll untie us.
00:51:12It's around here someplace, and you're going to stay right where you are until I find it.
00:51:15I've got the place to myself now. I can give it a real going over.
00:51:24I'm afraid I'd overlooked this possibility.
00:51:31I don't believe there's anybody else down here.
00:51:36You can't tell for sure.
00:51:38Well, it's all your fault.
00:51:39If you'd given me the keys to my car, I wouldn't be in this predicament.
00:51:45You've got to get me out of here.
00:51:47I'm going to find something to break down the door.
00:51:49I'll let you know.
00:51:50I'll let you know.
00:51:51I'll let you know.
00:51:52I'll let you know.
00:51:53I don't believe there's anybody else down here.
00:51:56You can't tell for sure.
00:51:58Well, it's all your fault.
00:51:59If you'd given me the keys to my car, I wouldn't be in this predicament.
00:52:02You've got to get me out of here.
00:52:04I'm going to find something to break down the door.
00:52:07Let go!
00:52:08I'm going to stay locked up here down here for the murder.
00:52:11Hey! Hey!
00:52:12Hey!
00:52:13Shut up or how fussed you are.
00:52:14But I've got to get away from here or I'll go crazy.
00:52:16Look here.
00:52:17You're better off down here and you wouldn't be a better driver.
00:52:38Let's go.
00:52:56What's going on here?
00:52:59There's someone hiding over there.
00:53:05Find out who that is.
00:53:06Come out with your hands up or I'll shoot.
00:53:19Well, you thought you could escape the gallows, eh?
00:53:22I'll make sure you don't try that again.
00:53:24Go on.
00:53:25Get upstairs.
00:53:36I'll have you free in a minute.
00:53:43I'll have you free in a minute.
00:54:06I'll have you free in a minute.
00:54:11Let's go.
00:54:12Oh, did I hurt you?
00:54:33No.
00:54:42Oh, did I hurt you?
00:55:12Where did the shot come from?
00:55:13Did you fire the shot?
00:55:14I didn't.
00:55:15Alan.
00:55:16Alan, are you hurt?
00:55:17No, darling.
00:55:18I wouldn't have been caught if it had been for those two nidwits.
00:55:19Andy, you're going to work.
00:55:20Mr. Bradford, it wasn't my fault.
00:55:21I locked down the basement.
00:55:22I couldn't.
00:55:23Get out of here.
00:55:24Yes, sir.
00:55:25I'm going.
00:55:26Oh, my God.
00:55:27Oh, my God!
00:55:28Oh, my God!
00:55:29Oh, my God!
00:55:30Oh, my God!
00:55:31Oh.
00:55:32Oh, my God!
00:55:33Oh, my God!
00:55:34Oh, my God!
00:55:35Oh, my God!
00:55:36Oh, my God!
00:55:37Oh, my God!
00:55:39Oh, my God!
00:55:40Oh, my God!
00:55:41Oh, my God!
00:55:43What's the matter with you?
00:55:46Have you lost your mind again?
00:55:49Dead, Baron!
00:55:50Dead.
00:56:11That bullet was meant for me.
00:56:14Well, there's another bullet for you. Go ahead and solve it. Maybe you can pull something out of the hat.
00:56:20I don't know. The sheriff can handle this to see it himself.
00:56:26It stopped raining. I can leave now.
00:56:29Will you give me the keys to my car?
00:56:31You can have them as far as I'm concerned.
00:56:33I'll be happy to see the last of this place.
00:56:35You'd better see the sheriff before you leave.
00:56:37Yes, I will. You heard him. Give me my keys.
00:56:50I'm telling you, Sheriff...
00:56:51Maybe you did not get the second murder?
00:56:52now look here sheriff i maybe you didn't commit the second murder but i sure got you for the first
00:57:21But Sheriff, you're making a terrible mistake.
00:57:23Yeah, we'll see about that.
00:57:51Just a minute, Mr. Weatherby.
00:57:59You killed Tim Winfield.
00:58:01No, that's not true. I didn't kill anyone.
00:58:03You're going to run away and let young Bentley suffer your crime.
00:58:21If that's another murder, I'm going screwing.
00:58:25Move over, Sheriff.
00:58:39Who fired those shots? What goes on here?
00:58:41Here's the man who killed Winfield, Sheriff.
00:58:43Him? Why, I wouldn't suspect him by having the nerve to kill a rabbit.
00:58:46Now, just a minute, Sheriff. Let me explain.
00:58:48Shut up.
00:58:49What makes you think he killed Winfield?
00:58:51The evidence was clear enough.
00:58:54Although he did take a little intelligence to unravel it.
00:58:58Also, he has the money.
00:59:01The other murderer is there.
00:59:04He was an escaped convict.
00:59:07Whitey Cole.
00:59:09He was after me.
00:59:13Why did you kill Winfield?
00:59:15I didn't mean to kill him.
00:59:17But when he took the money away from me,
00:59:19it was just as if he'd torn my heart out.
00:59:21You see, I gambled everything on that last chance to live.
00:59:24And without the money, it was useless.
00:59:26And as I sat there thinking about that, I got desperate.
00:59:29I picked up the footstool.
00:59:31And followed him into a room where he'd gone to hide the money.
00:59:34I hit him.
00:59:35As hard as I could.
00:59:37I wanted to hurt him, but I didn't think it would kill him.
00:59:40And then I threw the satchel out the window,
00:59:43planning on picking it up when I could.
00:59:56Mr. Bradford, you're hurt.
00:59:59I guess Whitey has paid off.
01:00:02In full.
01:00:04Thanks, Mr. Bradford.
01:00:05I hope you'll both be very happy.
