00:00The White House is slamming California Governor Gavin Newsom for playing politics with
00:05a calendar, namely the scheduling of a special election to replace the late
00:10Republican Congressman Doug LaMaffa. Under California law, Newsom has until
00:15August 4th of this year to schedule the election, and he has chosen the date of
00:20August 4th of this year. Really taking it to the last possible moment there.
00:25This leaves Republicans with a super slim 218 to 213.
00:30in the House of Representatives until then. The Trump administration is calling the move, quote,
00:35really shameful for using the death of a congressman to, in their view, throw a wrench.
00:40into the president's legislative agenda. With LaMaffa's death and the resignation of Congresswoman
00:45Marjorie Taylor Greene, Republican-led bills will fail if just three members of the party
00:50defect. Now, this whole gambling with the calendar tactic, while shameless, isn't new.
00:55and is actually a time-honored bipartisan tradition. The Republican governor of Texas, Greg
01:00Abbott, waited nearly eight months to hold an election to replace late Democratic congressmen.
01:05Sylvester Turner, after his passing last March. That election was eventually held this year.
01:10this past November and resulted in a runoff scheduled for January 31st. So it's still...
01:15not resolved. Now, an expected Democratic victory in that election will shrink...
01:20that Republican margin in the House, the one that I just mentioned, even further.
01:25Like to точ ears.
01:38was going to check the conversation about the
01:42in the saturation of Congresswoman Perlin.
