00:00Canada and the United States have built a remarkable partnership in the economy
00:05in security and in rich cultural exchange.
00:10But Canada doesn't live because of the United States.
00:15Canada thrives because we are Canadian.
00:20Canada gets a lot of freebies from us, by the way.
00:24They should be.
00:25We're grateful also, but they're not.
00:26I watched your prime minister yesterday.
00:29He wasn't so great.
00:30We're grateful that they should be grateful to us.
00:33Canada, Canada lives.
00:35Canada lives because of the United States.
00:36Remember that, Mark, the next time you make your statements?
00:45I said we had to do two things.
00:46The second is first is to be a bastion.
00:50The second is to be a beacon, an example to a world that's at sea.
00:55In a time of rising populism and ethnic nationalism,
01:00Canada can show how diversity is a strength, not a weakness.
01:05In a time of democratic decline, we can show how rights can be protected and equal freedom.
01:10And in a time of rising walls and thickening borders,
01:15we can demonstrate how a country can be both open and secure, welcoming.
01:20and strong, principled, and powerful.
01:24There are literally...
01:25billions of people who aspire to what we have built, a pluralistic society...
01:30that works, a public square that's loud, diverse, and free, an economy that...
01:35that delivers broadly shared prosperity, a democracy that chooses...
01:40to protect the most vulnerable against the powerful.
01:43Now, Canada...
01:45Canada can't solve all the world's problems, but we can show that another way is...
01:50possible.
01:51That the arc of history isn't destined to be warped...
01:55towards authoritarianism and exclusion, it can still bend towards progress...
02:00and justice.
