00:00A stunning reversal from the White House.
00:22The United States has abandoned plans to seize Greenland, not because the idea locked ambition,
00:29but because it risked something far more dangerous for President Donald Trump, impeachment.
00:35According to Reuters, the threat of congressional action forced Trump to retreat from a move
00:41that could have shattered NATO and ignited a constitutional crisis at home.
00:46Since early January, Trump and his inner circle had been actively discussing ways to take
00:52control of Greenland, the strategically vital Danish territory.
00:56But alarm bells quickly rang on Capitol Hill.
01:00Lawmakers from both parties warned the White House that any attempt to seize Greenland, especially
01:05without congressional approval, would trigger immediate impeachment proceedings.
01:11The message was blunt.
01:12Invade and the presidency is at risk.
01:16Just days ago, Trump was openly threatening tariffs on European allies as leverage, refusing
01:22to rule out the use of force.
01:24But on January 22nd, while attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, the president abruptly
01:30changed course.
01:32He ruled out military action, stepped back from tariff threats, and signaled that the confrontation
01:38with Denmark and NATO was on hold.
01:41After meeting NATO Secretary General Mark Ruda, Trump struck a dramatically different tone.
01:47He suggested a negotiated deal over Greenland, one that would give the U.S. access to critical
01:52minerals and support a Golden Dome missile defense system while countering Russian and Chinese
01:58influence in the Arctic.
02:00Trump called it a forever deal, claiming it would satisfy all sides and secure long-term
02:06Western interests.
02:08Russian diplomats say the sudden shift helped defuse what was becoming the deepest transatlantic
02:14rift in decades.
02:16Trump's earlier rhetoric, combined with tariff threats and territorial ambitions, had shaken
02:21allies already uneasy about U.S. leadership.
02:24While the dispute is far from resolved, officials say the retreat buys time to settle differences
02:30behind closed doors, without tanks, tariffs, or impeachment hearings.
02:36What are some of the elements of the Greenland concept that you can tell that there was a
02:47brilliant negotiation, but it's infinity.
02:50The time limit is infinity, meaning there is no time limit.
02:55It's forever.
02:56It's, you know, a year about 99 years, 50 years.
03:01It's forever.
03:03That was discussed.
03:05We can do anything we want.
03:06We can do military.
03:07We can do anything we want.
03:09And it's being negotiated, and let's see what happens.
03:12I think it'll be good.
03:13Would the U.S. have pockets of sovereignty over March?
03:23We have a lot of great things in the deal.
03:26And don't forget, they're also good for Europe, because, you know, when we're good, they're
03:31good.
03:32And if we're not good, that's not very good for them, because we hold it all together.
03:39We're holding it all together.
03:41Does that actually give you control of land in Greenland?
03:44Does it give U.S. control, ownership of land?
03:46We can do whatever we want, yeah.
03:49We're all going to work together.
03:50And actually, NATO is going to be involved with us.
03:53We're going to be doing it in conjunction, parts of it in conjunction with NATO, which
03:58is really the way it should be.
03:59But to be clear, will the U.S. own that?
04:01We won't have any expense, because we're not going to have expense.
04:04Other than building the Golden Dome, we're going to build the Golden Dome.
04:09And we'll have participation in that also, because of the Golden Dome, we'll have participation
04:15in that also, meaning with the expense of it.
04:19And it'll be like no other.
04:20I mean, you know, our technology is aground.
04:22Is Denmark signed off on this?
04:23Are they on board with this concept?
04:26Is Denmark on board with this concept?
04:28I think everyone likes it.
04:29I mean, I think.
04:30I'll let you know in about two weeks.
04:32Have you spoken with Denmark about this plan?
04:38The Secretary General, Mark, is a great guy.
04:42He's a great guy.
04:44And he's spoken to everybody.
04:46And when you spoke with the NATO Secretary General, did you talk about U.S. military presence
04:52in Greenland?
04:53About military presence?
04:54We talked about everything.
04:55And you saw him yesterday.
04:56He was interviewed on Bret Baier.
04:58And he was very happy.
05:00He was very convinced this is a good deal for everybody.
05:03How did your conversation go with President Valentin?
05:07We had a conversation.
05:08I've had numerous conversations on Ukraine.
05:11It'd be nice to end that war.
05:13You know, it costs us nothing.
05:15We make money.
05:16I don't want to make money.
05:17But we make money.
05:18Whereas Biden spent $350 billion stupidly and lost a lot of money.
05:24But it's not about the money.
05:26It's about 25,000 to 30,000 soldiers a month, mostly soldiers, a month of being killed.
05:32What kind of confession?
05:33Can you sign a securities deal?
05:34Are you able to sign them?
05:35Because they could go up and Jared are right now on the way to Moscow.
05:41So we'll see how that works out.
05:43What kind of confession?
05:44I had a good meeting.
05:45But I've had, you know, numerous good meetings with President Zelensky.
05:48And it doesn't seem to happen.
05:51You know, it's funny.
05:53I put out a 35-year war in a day.
05:56A 32-year war in two days.
05:59In other wars, the worst was like four days.
06:03And this one goes on and on forever.
06:06And actually, they may have been more complex.
06:09Do you think of a trilateral that the U.S., Russia, and Ukraine are having in Abu Dhabi this
06:15weekend leads to a trilateral between you, Putin, and Zelensky?
06:18Look, it's all good.
06:19Anytime we meet, it's good.
06:21If you don't meet, nothing's going to happen.
06:24I mean, for the first three years, nobody met.
06:27Under Biden, nobody met.
06:29And you know one thing, if you don't meet, nothing's going to happen.
06:33So we are meeting, and we'll see what happens.
06:35I hope we can save a lot of lives.
06:38Mr. President, what kind of concessions does Vladimir Putin need to make at this point?
06:48He'll make concessions.
06:50Everybody's making concessions to get it done.
06:53Europe is going to be a part of it.
06:55It's got to be a part of it.
06:56Look, it's more for Europe than for me.
06:58I mean, I'm doing this more for Europe than for me.
07:01I'm doing it to save lives, number one.
07:03I'm doing it secondarily for Europe.
07:06I'm not doing it so much for the Europe.
07:08It doesn't affect us very much, other than the loss of lives.
07:12You know, we're not affected by this.
07:15It's thousands of miles away.
07:17We're separated by an ocean.
07:20But I have an ability to get things done like this, and we'll see if I can get it done.
07:25I mean, it would never have gotten done.
07:28I thought Putin wanted the whole thing.
07:30Maybe he does, but he's not going to be going there unless we don't make a deal.
07:35We had a good meeting today with President Zelensky.
07:38I think a very good meeting.
07:39What's the main holdup?
07:41What's the main holdup to getting a deal?
07:44The main holdup is the same things that have been holding it up for the last year.
07:49Look, this is a war.
07:51This is Biden's war.
07:52This isn't my war.
07:53This is a war that should have never happened.
07:55But it's complex because you have beats and bounds.
07:58You have streets.
08:00You have rivers.
08:01You have everything.
08:02You know, where does it end?
08:03So it's a little bit complicated.
08:05But I've had that in five of the other wars.
08:09You know, there are beats and bounds.
08:11It's a location.
08:13It's boundaries.
08:14And I got them done fast.
08:16In days, this one is just going on.
08:19You know, what's happened here is there were times when Putin didn't want to make a deal.
08:24Times when Zelensky didn't want to make a deal.
08:27And it was like opposite times.
08:30Now I think they both want to make a deal, but we'll find out.
08:33Did something change that makes you think that Putin and Zelensky now are serious about it?
08:38I don't have any predictions.
08:40There are no changes.
08:42I think that President Putin would like to make a deal.
08:46I think that President Zelensky would like to make a deal.
08:50What did Zelensky say today?
08:53I mean, he came all the way there to meet you.
08:55What did he say?
08:57He said he'd like to make a deal.
08:59I mean, you know, there's not much he can say.
09:03People know the parameters.
09:04It's not like, you know, we're discussing things that have been discussed for six or seven months.
09:10And he came and he said he wants to make a deal because I wasn't necessarily sure.
09:15I think he should want to make a deal.
09:17It's pretty tough.
09:19It's really tough on the people of Ukraine.
09:21I'll tell you that.
09:22Mr. President, how they live without heat, where it's 20 degrees below zero, you know, it's very cold.
09:30It's a very, that's a colder climate for the most part than Canada.
09:36But they live without heat.
09:39I asked him, I mean, how do they, how do they do that?
09:42And he gave me the answer.
09:43It's pretty amazing what they do to live.
09:47It's no way to live.
09:48Yeah.
09:49Back to, back to Greenland.
09:50Can you elaborate more on just, we're trying to understand what exactly the concept is here.
09:54Is the U.S. going to actually take ownership of it?
09:57We'll have something in two weeks.
09:59There's a good spirit to get something done.
10:02And we have to have a strong freedom.
10:05We have to have the ability to do exactly what we want to do.
10:09We have a great military.
10:11I built a great military.
10:12I did this in my first time.
10:14And continuation.
10:15Big continuation.
10:17I think what we did with the defense companies was very important too, because we need things faster.
10:22We have the best weapons in the world.
10:25By far we showed that last week with Venezuela.
10:28We have the best weapons in the world.
10:31We have to make them faster.
10:32How would it be any different than the current situation?
10:35The U.S. can...
10:36We're much different.
10:37Much more detailed.
10:38Much more generous to the United States.
10:41It's a much more generous deal.
10:43It has to be.
10:44And we're building a golden dome.
10:46And you see the way it works.
10:48That is so much better for us, and for Europe, to have that piece of ice covered by the golden dome.
10:56We're good.
10:57Do you mind sharing your house?
10:58More today.
11:00That is amazing.
11:01I will see you next time.
11:02You are.
11:03And I will see you next time.
11:04Thanks for listening.
11:05Take care.
11:06You are leaving.
11:07Teach me.
11:08Take care.
11:09Take care.
11:10Three or two.
11:11And I will see you next time.
11:12You will see you next time.
