00:00Cashing in on drink containers is already a popular, family-friendly pastime in the ACT.
00:09I collect them for my golf mates and it's actually pocket money for my granddaughters
00:14and they love doing it.
00:19Seven out of ten people have participated in the ACT container deposit scheme.
00:24That means 444 million containers have been collected.
00:29The habit will be even more lucrative by mid-2027.
00:34The ones we already accept will now be able to bring those bigger sizes in.
00:37We'll also see wine bottles and other types of juice containers coming through.
00:41Specifically, most containers up to three litres will be eligible to return an urn,
00:46including wine, spirits, cordials and juices.
00:50It's expected an additional 8 million containers will be collected in the expanded scheme's first year
00:56and 400 tonnes of recyclables diverted from landfill.
01:00I'm surprised it hasn't already been instigated but I think it's going to be a fantastic expansion.
01:05It's a shame to see so many of those things going to landfill.
01:09Despite the environmental boom, the Minister insists the delay is necessary.
01:14It's giving people a chance to adjust, it might be changing labelling over.
01:17There's a whole range of factors that go into it
01:20and it's just making sure that there is a long enough lead time
01:23that industry can work through all of that in a comfortable timeframe.
01:26I think it's great.
01:27And it's got the environment too.
01:29You've got to look after it.
01:31Many happy returns.
