00:00词曲 李宗盛
00:30back bro what's going on
00:38how's the leg it's getting better every day i guess smaller as you can see it's less swollen
00:48so the hem of the rod in all the way and then boat and bolt it up nightmare bro yeah it just
00:55feels like a nightmare yeah so wednesday basically is um push training right the push session at the
01:03ice house that day i was feeling so amazing man so we have this frame slide this slide's like a pure
01:18metal it's just a frame simulating the the push on the actual track me personally i go 100% every
01:30time like you compete taylor's team was on the other side it's my turn let's start pushing it
01:38when about to load i hear a lot of screaming
01:44that moment you don't know exactly what's happening
01:58it's just like a shock and it's like why can i not move from from like my chest now
02:07it's just out of the blue and boom everything's taken away from me
02:31i've been dreaming with that thing i've been having nightmares i believe it bro
02:37nightmares yeah i was there bro i was there you saw
02:41team austin all their members were involved in this incident
02:47there is some sort of miscommunication
02:50the track is one way and at the other end a four-man sled was being loaded onto the track
02:57while boca was in track pushing so the sled went down and they just collided head on
03:03i'm not sure how this kind of thing could happen but it happened
03:08yeah bro how crazy is that watching it was insane
03:11there were a lot of veteran guys over there that know better
03:14this kind of thing should not happen
03:17it's definitely a traumatic experience for me
03:20we're brothers on the team so anything happens to him i feel it too
03:25oh man that's hard to watch
03:31the ice house has been around for 30 years and there's never been an accident like that
03:37so it was a real shame to see that
03:39nobody saw that the two were going at the same time and
03:42they collided at the bottom
03:44oh he boca gets off the sled
03:47it's a bit of a wake-up call that you know safety is really important and we gotta be really aware of what we're doing
03:52he goes from 40 kilometers an hour forward to going backwards in a tenth of a second
03:59it was a terrible accident
04:02oh man you can see everybody knows now they're all looking
04:07it was devastating
04:10it should have never happened and it will never happen again
04:13that is rough
04:16the femur is the hardest bone to break in the body
04:21it's got to be one of the worst injuries you can have that you can come back from
04:24fortunately there's no paralysis or anything to the spine
04:31you go there you do what uh what we already started don't look back and uh
04:36i'll be there soon day by day brother yeah day by day
04:39and uh when comes who come doesn't matter how hard
04:43some days can be on my emotional my psychological part of my life
04:50now you got to channel it into the rehab yeah true
04:54the physical we're going to repair
04:57we're going to repair and we're going to come back if i feel one percent better and i can't sense that
05:05oh man get out of the way man get out of the way
05:09i'll give a hard time to whoever's competing against me
05:15would you be happy with your career if you didn't make the olympics
05:18i don't even know if i understand the question seriously nobody works more than i do man
05:29i still see myself at the olympics no bull
05:48please
06:01world championships is where everyone kind of brings up
06:04their a game no one's gonna take their foot off the gas for anyone like everyone wants to have
06:10their best result on the world cup circuit Cynthia up here with Skylar Sieben
06:25my driving wasn't the best definitely not desirable my pushes weren't where they needed
06:30to be Skylar Sieben struggling to get the timing right that's so critical
06:35it just became more and more demoralizing falling down the rank order
07:00I know I'm better than this so get your together soon
07:06I kind of feel like I let Cynthia down a little bit with my start
07:11your speed's not great especially since she like gave so much for me to like come and be
07:18a brakeman so I'm a little bit down she's always so supportive so
07:24I'm frustrated and I'm disappointed
07:37can't blame anyone but myself
07:38it's been a hard season we're not performing to where we should be but Cynthia needs to put
07:45that behind her right now because it's world championships on a track that she knows
07:51lake flaccid I consider it my home track it's where I first learned to be a brakeman it's
07:56also where I first learned how to drive the only track that I medaled on last season so giving
08:01that perspective going into this race I feel confident that I'll do well here she's been
08:08here before she knows what to do but going into the Olympics she needs to make hay while the sun's shining
08:15right now
08:24winning an Olympic medal has been my goal for a long time
08:27there's a reason that I still show up 12 years later trying to do this trying to be my best
08:32but obviously there's still a lot of work to be done Taylor Austin for Canada Mark Zanet behind him
08:40Johan Eskrich Parkinson and Chris Ashley so 17 fastest start
08:49if you start in the back of the pack it doesn't matter how good of a driver you are
08:53when you have skill like Taylor does as a driver there's always a chance
08:57it but we have to find a way to get a team around him that can get him the starts that he needs
09:04so that he can use this talent to be in the race you need to be in this in the race at the start
09:14you know performances aren't quite there but going into world championships anything can happen
09:20when the results are bad week after week you better go all right I need to step it up
09:27we could redeem it all right now world championships is the big one kind of like a dress rehearsal every
09:35year for Olympic games we have full authority at world championships for team selection
09:45world cup season has wrapped up it hasn't been a great year but Taylor Austin can be very very fast
09:51in Lake Placid so can Cynthia and it can be salvaged there so if we're looking at the four man
09:57we all agree that the best chance for a medal at world champs in Placid is to take the crew of
10:04Evelyn Keaton and Shaq and put them with Taylor all three of them put them behind Taylor and now we've
10:10got a team that has a shot we need to take a very close look at our men's side and we need to put the
10:17best team together to give Canada the best chance that they can win a medal I think Taylor and Shaq don't
10:22get along very well I don't personally think it matters like just to flag that if you don't like
10:34the guy you suck it up and you you go to work and you you do your best it's the only chance we've got
10:41in the entire men's program to get a result I agree the historical performance says Taylor's the best
10:48pilot in the Canadian program on Lake Placid I think that makes the most sense
10:52so from the women's perspective Canada one will be seen with Skyler we're in agreement there that
11:02team gives us our best chance at winning a world champs medal yeah it's fair Cynthia's in a spot
11:09right now where she's being humbled the whole season and it's kind of gotten through to her and
11:15and we've got such high hopes for Skyler her ceiling is so high we're going to keep her with Cynthia
11:45um they have me pushing with Taylor and I don't know how I feel about that the ice house incident
11:52affected my relationship with Taylor he was involved in it so moving forward from that you definitely
11:59have trust issues you got two three sorted in your head yeah I never really like stopped to look at it
12:12from like the middle of the corner yeah so just seeing that yeah seeing that today I was like oh
12:17okay I get it now I'm out here in Lake Placid for the world championships just helping do some pilot
12:22coaching I was a pilot for 10 seasons 11 seasons two Olympics I went to Torino in 06 in Vancouver in 2010
12:35yeah and if you did it twice consistently yesterday I think you have it well they were both different but
12:41now like I just have it in my mind that I can just like react you know Taylor's had some great success
12:47here on this track and I think it's probably one of the places where he feels like he has his best
12:53chance for a podium and that also adds a lot of pressure then often this race is used as an automatic
13:00qualifier for the olympic games so there's a lot on the line at this competition
13:07here we go Skylar come on come on sit
13:12I do feel some pressure
13:16because having Cynthia help me and taking under her wing has been so amazing
13:22all right let's go
13:30there isn't a lot of people who want someone new
13:33and Cynthia spent a lot of money on her season and I'm a big part of that now
13:40um I still gotta figure out what I'm doing in a devil's highway
13:43is that before the no it's uh four five six
13:47so I've got a lot to live up to and any athlete wants to win the whole thing and so
13:54I want to help her do that so you guys are doing a third yeah we're doing a third yeah
13:58when you're going into a world championships and you're losing after
14:0210 rounds and you just hope to land that knockout punch that's what Cynthia is trying to do here
14:07one two three and as a pilot Cynthia has many responsibilities do you want to grab the hooks
14:14bobsleigh canada we're not as funded we used to take care of a lot more stuff
14:18now that's on her plate so not only is she taking care of herself but she's taking care of a rookie
14:23brakeman a lot of stuff on her plate
14:29it's good to be back in Lake Placid that's for sure pretty town I remember playing hockey down
14:42here as a kid yeah Lake Placid's kind of a little special place for my family which is fun
14:48growing up I was a small athlete I competed at high levels of hockey and soccer but I just didn't
14:54have the size and it's hard to compete at those levels without it I spent a lot of years trying to
14:59shift my focus into something else but it wasn't quite the same fulfillment so when bobsleigh came
15:04around I dug both heels in pretty quick I came out here into Lake Placid and started driving
15:12I had quite a few crashes in my first season
15:16this move started
15:21herniated c6 seven
15:25torn my rectus abdominis completely off
15:31and I don't have any feeling in my finger or my left tricep anymore
15:38I think one of the worst crashes I've ever had was out of corner five here in Lake Placid
15:42Lake Placid has 20 corners and 1,600 meters.
15:52You're working as a driver constantly
15:54through the whole track.
15:55With so many corners here,
15:57you have a stronger possibility of crashing.
16:00It certainly increases the risk.
16:02Pat has a really big history with this track.
16:05He's struggled, especially in the four-man,
16:07and he's pulled out a few races in a row.
16:10Now he's coming back in with that in the back of his mind.
16:13He needs to channel that fear into motivation.
16:29Email?
16:30Got the email.
16:31Came out.
16:32Now we know.
16:33Now we know.
16:34Thoughts?
16:35Back at Team Austin.
16:37Yeah?
16:38Yes, sir.
16:39Time to win a medal now.
16:41Ultimately, I'm a professional,
16:42so I'm going to do my job to the best of my ability.
16:44It doesn't matter what I feel about a teammate.
16:47On the ice, we get the job done.
16:49Off the ice, it is what it is.
16:51Obviously, you know, you guys are with paddle season.
16:53I'm with my guys.
16:55We're essentially switching teams,
16:56but, you know, eyes on the prize,
16:57and we're trying to finish the season strong.
16:59For me, it's just winning time.
17:01Yeah, yeah.
17:02I'm here to win.
17:03Yeah.
17:04We're going for this.
17:05Yeah.
17:06And you give us the best opportunity to win it right now,
17:07so...
17:08Yeah.
17:09That's what it is.
17:10All confidence on you, man, to bring us a medal, man.
17:12Taylor's the best driver in Canada.
17:14I know what he brings to the table.
17:17Everybody wants to win.
17:18We know why we're there.
17:19At the end of the day, I'm on the winning train.
17:21I'm not on the friendship train.
17:24How's Davidson doing?
17:25Have you talked to him recently?
17:27Trying to work out as much as he can every day.
17:30Yeah.
17:31Guy will be back in no time, man.
17:32If anyone would do it, it would be him.
17:34Definitely.
17:35Yeah.
17:36I've had conversations with Shaq and Davidson individually.
17:40Mistakes happen.
17:41You learn from them.
17:42Obviously, I feel bad,
17:44because I definitely let the guys down,
17:45let the program down,
17:46but just got to move forward from it.
17:48It's time to put all that stuff aside
17:50and just unleash and have some fun in Placid
17:52and compete against the best
17:53and try and beat all these guys.
17:54We definitely can do it.
17:55Yes, sir.
17:56At the end of the day,
17:57we know that each one of us
17:59is going to push our limits for the other.
18:01And if you can have that buy-in from each other,
18:04that's when the real magic happens.
18:06Yes, sir.
18:07Let's get it done.
18:08Yeah.
18:09All right, man.
18:10Let's go.
18:19Sweet!
18:20Chris, Johan, Mark, and Josh.
18:23Josh.
18:24The guys are getting the foreman ready.
18:27Getting some dry loads going.
18:29Trying to get into the sled as quick as they can.
18:31Down!
18:35My guys that I have now were Team Austin for a while.
18:39We were placed with Hat Norton for this last race of the season.
18:43Pushing Team 2 is still an honour for me.
18:49It was a coaching decision to make the change.
18:51And as an athlete, there's a lot of things that are out of your control.
18:55And that's one of them.
19:00There's a lot riding on these World Championships for Pat.
19:03It's a bit of a make-or-break moment for him.
19:05Last year at the World Cup, he really struggled in Lake Placid.
19:08He had some crashes in training and he ended up pulling out of the race altogether.
19:13Oh, yeah, yeah.
19:14This level of anxiety getting into the foreman that just never seems to go away.
19:19If somebody gets injured because of something that I'm doing, that's on me.
19:22We all sign up to do this crazy sport.
19:24But taking three other people with you each and every run is a weight you have to carry as well.
19:48Up next from Canada is Pat Norton.
19:50I've been raising with an experienced team all season and I'm rolling into this with a new crew of rookies.
19:59They're strong athletes, but they've got a long way to go.
20:02I'm hoping that he just is a professional about this and uses it as motivation to show us how good he is.
20:09Track is clear to start one for Pat Norton.
20:13We're a good one for the best friends and family.
20:15I hope you enjoyed it.
20:16Go ahead.
20:17Go ahead.
20:18You're ready.
20:19Right.
20:21That's right.
20:22Go ahead.
20:23Okay.
20:24Go ahead.
20:25Go ahead.
20:26Leave me here.
20:27Go ahead.
20:28Go ahead.
20:30Go ahead.
20:31Stop.
20:33Go ahead.
20:34Go ahead.
20:36Go ahead.
20:37You're ready.
20:38Go ahead.
20:39Go ahead.
20:40You're ready?
20:41Sled's coming back.
21:11Yeah, it was a tough one.
21:30It was a rough crash.
21:32Four-man crashes are rough, and that track is rough.
21:39Yeah, his helmet is completely destroyed.
21:43Yeah, I don't know.
21:44Like, I would be very worried about his brain.
21:46Yeah.
21:47Like, someone should check him properly.
21:49Yeah.
21:50First, you have to make sure that he's cleared to slide
21:52medically, and I think the team is still waiting to hear
21:54if he's OK to slide.
21:56And then, is his crew physically OK to slide, too?
21:59So there's a lot of unknowns right now.
22:00I think everybody's just waiting to find out if he can go.
22:04The World Championships, as athletes, that's a dream,
22:08right?
22:08People's dream is on the line.
22:17A lot of decisions to be made in the next.
22:19What is it?
22:20We got eight hours, and then eight, so 16 hours away
22:22from race time.
22:2316 hours, and we still don't know what's happening.
22:27Goodness.
22:28If Pat doesn't go tomorrow, those guys aren't sliding.
22:32There's a lot at stake, and it would be very unfortunate
22:34if those boys didn't get to race.
22:36Yeah.
22:37That'd be terrible.
22:38You worked so hard all year, and to not be able to go out
22:42there and perform, it'll be tough.
22:44Oh, yo, what's up?
22:47The man.
22:48What?
22:49Check this out.
22:50What the hell?
22:51Bro.
22:52Shut up.
22:53What is going on?
22:56Wow.
22:57Bro.
22:58It almost cracked all the way across.
23:01That's crazy.
23:02So you're pinned like this.
23:04Yeah, the cowling came down here.
23:05The cowling is like this.
23:06Just riding the ice the whole way down.
23:09Just squeezing.
23:10Can you feel?
23:11Oh, yeah.
23:12Yeah, yeah.
23:13It, like, broke through at one point.
23:15It was just, like, sitting on my head.
23:16The cowling.
23:17Yeah.
23:18For sure.
23:18Yeah.
23:20Crashes can be brutal and unforgiving.
23:25Definitely got to know when to hold them, when to fold them.
23:29It's a bit of a fight or flight situation for me.
23:33We're either going all in, or we're bowing out again,
23:36and we're not going to do this thing at all.
23:39Sometimes, you know, having the courage to even do that
23:41is the hard thing.
23:59I trained the entire year for this one.
24:02I have to be here.
24:04Told you, man.
24:05The moment I got in the hospital, I knew that it wouldn't define me.
24:08So, three months later today.
24:09I haven't seen you in a long time.
24:10How are you doing?
24:11I'm all right.
24:12I'm walking.
24:13Good to see you, Boga.
24:15Good to see you, too, coach.
24:16I'm here to make sure I support the boys.
24:19How are you?
24:20Good to see you, man.
24:21Support the girls.
24:23Support my team.
24:25Lake Placid, New York.
24:26Here's the venue for the 2025 IBSF World Championships.
24:30Welcome back, everybody, for our women's bobsy board.
24:34Let's go, girls.
24:35Come on.
24:36Give it up.
24:42OK, Scott, let's go.
24:44It's time to finish strong.
24:46This is the big race, and they have to nail it.
24:49Give it up, give it up, give it up.
24:52This season is feeling for games, and there's that expectation on yourself that you'd want
24:58to impress everyone.
25:00So, 11 sleds down.
25:02Next up, Cynthia Appiah and Skylar Seed are new to the team this year.
25:06Skylar, track and field athletes.
25:09First World Championships.
25:10It's really exciting for people their first time in Worlds.
25:12They've been training all season long to get here.
25:15555 start for these ladies, putting them at 8.
25:19A hit out of 1, that's definitely going to cost her for speed.
25:23We were saying 8 earlier, she's dropping back a little bit, probably from that corner 1.
25:27Yep.
25:28Real fastest speed.
25:30She could be way quicker than that.
25:34She is going to be very frustrated when she looks back and watches her run.
25:37That mistake early on, shaking her head.
25:39A little bit, double tie wave.
25:411, 2, 2.
25:43First run was a little shaky.
25:44It's going to be a battle.
25:51559 start.
25:52400 slower than what she pushed.
25:57Oh, that's not good.
25:59Ugh, too early there.
26:00There we go.
26:01A little bit of a tap there out of 10.
26:04Oh, shoot.
26:09Bring her back.
26:11My thanks for Cynthia.
26:12What we need to do is get her focusing on the process.
26:20You have to look at it like four heats.
26:22It doesn't start the way you want.
26:23You got chances to keep cleaning it up.
26:25Yeah, yeah.
26:26Just think about a couple things you want to fix.
26:28Do it.
26:29The mental piece in the sport of bobsleigh is so important.
26:35Your deep belief in your abilities despite whatever's happening in the environment around you.
26:41That is a massive leap forward for Laura Nolta and Deborah Levy.
26:45It matters so much.
26:47It's very easy to let some things going wrong distract you from what you're actually capable
26:52of.
26:53She's not going to love that big skin two to three.
26:55Nova got it back on track there.
26:56She knows how to drive Lake Fawcett.
27:01Lake Fawcett.
27:02She's not going to love that big skin two to three.
27:03Nova got it back on track there.
27:04She knows how to drive Lake Fawcett.
27:08Lake Fawcett.
27:09She's not going to love that big skin two to three.
27:12Nova got it back on track there.
27:15She knows how to drive Lake Fawcett.
27:1757 to 0.
27:22Well, that's 2700 faster than her second heat.
27:29Let's go, Singh.
27:31Let's go.
27:32All right.
27:33Come on, kiddo.
27:36Cynthia drove great.
27:39But we need to push top of the world and drive top of the world.
27:42You can't just do one part if you want to be in the medals.
27:45All right.
27:46So.
27:47Let's go.
27:48Big push.
27:49Big push.
27:54A slightly bigger advantage for Canada's Cynthia Peer and Skyler.
27:58Come on, Canada.
28:04High five each.
28:06That is their second quickest of the competition.
28:11And that's what you want to see on your last one.
28:13Give it everything you have.
28:14Finish on the skid there.
28:16Repeats the error.
28:17Which is why she only has the third fastest speed even with a really strong start.
28:20What's it going to be at the next clock?
28:22How much has she got?
28:23Nothing.
28:24This is good.
28:25This is good.
28:26Yeah.
28:27Yeah.
28:28Yeah.
28:29Yeah.
28:30Yeah.
28:31Let's go.
28:32Yeah.
28:33Yeah.
28:34Yeah.
28:35Yeah.
28:36Yeah.
28:37Let's go.
28:38Yeah.
28:39Let's go.
28:40Let's go!
28:55Let's go!
29:01For Cynthia, the story's not over yet.
29:04She has another chance.
29:06She could come out tomorrow and do really well
29:08in the monobob race.
29:12I definitely felt like Cynthia and I proved ourselves
29:14even though we didn't get the placing that we wanted.
29:16We had some pretty competitive push times
29:18so we were super pumped about that
29:20and it's always good to end on a good note
29:23knowing that you're in there, you're competitive
29:25and you're hopeful for the next season.
29:27Today's a day.
29:43Today's a four-man race day.
29:47Right now we're not sure if Pat's racing or not.
29:51Pat and his guys are cleared medically
29:53but the decision is Pat's.
29:55I'd say the over-under on people's thoughts were that I wasn't going to race.
30:01And that's what fueled me to make sure I was racing.
30:05Stakes are high.
30:07If I don't race, there's potential that these athletes don't get funding next season.
30:15So here we go.
30:39Four-man World Championships gets underway in Lake Placid.
30:51Pat and Taylor both have something to prove.
30:54We need to know, can they deliver on the biggest stage before the Olympics?
30:59Four-man is a big, scary boat.
31:05It's 630 kilos.
31:08It's 5G of pressure.
31:09It's an intense machine.
31:11Once you crash, next time you go,
31:15it's always going to be in the back of your head.
31:17Is this going to happen again?
31:19The crash doesn't just impact me.
31:21It impacts my brakeman.
31:23Four-man is a lot of responsibility.
31:26Next for Canada, Pat Norton with Mark Zanette,
31:29Johannes Rick Parkinson,
31:30and Chris Ashley on the back of the sled.
31:37So we've had a crash in training.
31:41All right, 12th best start, 11th.
31:43Velocity, so they're loaded well.
31:46Yeah, Pat's got a pretty new crew,
31:48so that's a good start for them, I think, too.
31:51That's the best run so far.
31:52Look at the speed.
31:53Yes!
31:54Yes!
31:55Nice!
31:56Wow!
31:57Oh, yeah!
31:58Across the line.
31:59Yeah, that's the scene of how they get down the track.
32:04That's good.
32:05Oh, wow!
32:08First ball!
32:10Wow!
32:11Got it!
32:12Some fired up cannons.
32:13Come on, boys!
32:14Come on!
32:15I try and lead by example.
32:17Woo!
32:18My story has been one that's been written on putting in the work.
32:22Because I've never been the one that has all the talent.
32:26I had to find it somewhere else.
32:28You know what?
32:29What just happened is going to help Pat for the rest of his life.
32:32This is huge.
32:33You don't have to.
32:34Yes, he was.
32:35Yes, he was.
32:36I agree.
32:37Yeah, that was big.
32:38That was incredible.
32:39All right.
32:40Come on.
32:41Let's go.
32:42Let's go.
32:43Come on.
32:44Come on.
32:45Let's go.
32:46Let's go.
32:47Come on.
32:48Come on.
32:49Let's go.
32:50Get it.
32:51Come on.
32:52Taylor has what it takes.
32:54He just needs to remember that.
32:56I know that I have a lot of experience,
32:57and I've had results as a fast driver, but I try to live in the moment as a pilot.
33:10Come on, Shaq, go!
33:11Let's go, boys.
33:12Come on.
33:13Get it!
33:14so next up is taylor austin for canada mike evelyn keaton broeglin and shaq murray lawrence

34:21so 55 29 is quite a popular downtime at the moment it's okay got three more three more three more to go
34:31how do you feel the whole drive's crazy though i've seen it it's not it's not locked in he's not focused
34:39because mine is because mine is elsewhere you've got to give everything to this man olympics is right

35:02see that you know what i mean like you are lower but like you in that scenario you just started
35:08opening up too soon a couple little things you know taylor can turn this around he just needs to
35:14focus on what he knows how to do and go and execute a top 10 finish is still possible put it together on
35:20this last run be free let you know what to do let your let your brain just respond to the track
35:37so
35:54so
35:58He didn't have a skid.
36:09He's doing momentum still.
36:11At least Taylor knows this is the last one.
36:13He's got a bit of everything he's got.
36:15Top speed for Taylor Austin.
36:16Two tenths up on Sun Kai-Chi.
36:19He's only 1,200 away from a top ten finish.
36:22This is a solid run from Taylor.
36:24Not bad at all.
36:25He's letting it fly.
36:26Top speed again.
36:273,200's up.
36:29It's a big run from Taylor Austin.
36:31This is not top ten.
36:3355-71.
36:37That's very impressive from Taylor Austin.
36:41He's going, yeah, that's how it feels.
36:43We got it.
36:50Taylor had a fantastic last run.
36:52Pulled it all together.
36:53Moving forward, I hope Taylor can build some confidence
36:56off that last run.
36:59The Canadians will be in eighth place.
37:01It's a really good reward for their final day of action.
37:05Hey, there's Boka.
37:06Hey, there's Boka.
37:07It was something that I wasn't planning.
37:10That was a shock that put me in there.
37:12He's like, come here.
37:13You're a part of this.
37:14In the end, I was like, yeah, this is my team.
37:30Taylor really struggled.
37:31He had a hard race.
37:32He's going to see how fast that run was,
37:35and he's going to realize if he did four like that,
37:37he'd be right up there with those boys.
37:39That's Bob Slade, though.
37:40How do you feel, Taylor?
37:43Thanks for the motion.
37:50At least we got one on the last one.
37:52Welcome back to the final day of action in Lake Placid
38:01in the Adirondack Mountains
38:03to decide the finishing order
38:05of the IBSF Women's Monobob World Championships.
38:10The whole season was a little bit of a flop
38:13as far as the two-woman event goes,
38:15but Monobob is Cynthia's strength,
38:18and Cynthia's last hope for a podium.
38:20I basically just told her to shut the mind off,
38:24push like a beast, let it fly, let it come.
38:27Cynthia needs a really good start here.
38:29She has to dial it in.
38:30It all comes down to this.
38:33Good day for a bobsled ride.
38:35Sink it.
38:36Let's go, Cynthia.
38:37There isn't a track where I'm not standing
38:39at the top of the hill
38:39without butterflies in my stomach,
38:42but World Champs is where it matters.
38:46I can't turn back now.
38:47Let's do this.
38:49Cynthia, I'm here.
38:50Out of Canada.
38:51The fastest start in competition.
38:53This is electrifying.
38:55She had some of that Canadian maple syrup,
38:56and she's ready to go.
38:582,600 is up at the start.
39:00A little unconventional.
39:01A little unconventional work, though.
39:0243 hundred.
39:05There it is.
39:06And look at those guns.
39:07She's one heck of a strong woman.
39:09She started 580.
39:10Yeah.
39:11That's more like Cynthia.
39:15Woo-hoo!
39:17Let's go!
39:17Have a tight race, Mark.
39:20This is going to be one heck of a showdown
39:23for the top six for medal contingency.
39:26After three runs, Cynthia's sitting in fifth.
39:29She needs to make this run count
39:30if she wants to end up on the podium.
39:32Cynthia Appiah looking for a medal here.
39:37She's had one World Cup medal,
39:39two only.
39:41Top six finishes this season.
39:43She's ending at least on the upward trend.
39:45580 push to tie.
39:47Fourth best speed, though.
39:48The gap's coming back down.
39:49It's hard from 2,300 to 1,200.
40:01Oh!
40:01Hung it up on 12 a little bit there.
40:03That will kill some of her speed.
40:05But awesome chicane.
40:06Seventh best speed.
40:07It's going to be close at the bottom line.
40:09I'm not sure she's got enough speed on board.
40:11Oh, what's it going to be?
40:18Seven hundredths of a second.
40:21And that's impressive.
40:22That's great.
40:2359.65 run for Cynthia Appiah.
40:25She is in the top five.
40:27She is on the wider podium.
40:29And that is a good result.
40:33So four to go.
40:35So Cynthia's first with four more sleds to go.
40:38Yeah.
40:38But the top three have a pretty good lead on her.
40:40What about Katty Bile?
40:42Yeah.
40:43Katty was 100th ahead of Appiah after three heats.
40:47It's an exciting moment.
40:49You're kind of watching, you know, secretly hoping that the person makes some mistakes.
40:53And you keep climbing up that leaderboard.
40:58Eight fastest speed.
41:02All of our funding is tied to how we perform at World Champs.
41:05She needs to go in at the hundreds.
41:07Every spot you move up leaderboard is going to help my funding.
41:10and boost my potential to win an Olympic medal.
41:12Quicker than Cynthia down through the bottom.
41:15It's going to be close, Mark.
41:17No, it's not.
41:21Wow.
41:22She drops two spots.
41:23Bringing up Cynthia.
41:24Left fourth.
41:26So fourth place for Cynthia Appiah.
41:29Her best ever World Championship result.
41:32And they came up one spot short.
41:33Fourth place is amazing result.
41:38Welcome to the medalist.
41:40In fourth place, representing Canada, Cynthia Appiah.
41:46I'm really happy.
41:47It's my best result out of all the World Championships that I've competed in.
41:51So, things are looking good for next season.
41:53Gold medalist, Keisha Love.
41:58This season was extremely difficult.
42:01But Cynthia finishing fourth is something to be proud of.
42:05Especially going into an Olympic year.
42:07Something we can build on now.
42:09Okay, guys, listen up.
42:18Wrap up meeting.
42:19This season was the hardest season of my life.
42:23And it was way harder for you guys.
42:26But the story's not over.
42:29And next year is going to be hard, too.
42:32It's an Olympic year.
42:33Unfortunately, my season finished in a way that I didn't expect.
42:39I'm just not going to end like this.
42:41It's going to end the way I want to end.
42:43I'm definitely going to be in the Olympics 2026.
42:45One way or the other.
42:47By the end of the season, I learned I'm all in.
42:52Everyone wants to go to the Olympics.
42:54Everyone wants to win those medals.
42:56And I'm going for it.
42:592026, Milano-Cortina.
43:00That's the main goal.
43:01And I'm ready to go to battle.
43:03Because it's going to be a fight out there.
43:05It's our time for redemption.
43:07Italy 2026.
43:08We've got to do some soul searching.
43:10Look ourselves in the mirror.
43:12Train twice as hard.
43:14This is it.
43:15It's the Olympic season now.
43:17It's all or nothing.
43:18The World Cup season was pretty tough on us.
43:21I'm learning from it.
43:22And I'm ready to go into the next season and execute.
43:25See if we can win a medal in the Olympics.
43:26As long as I give it my all, I'll be proud of myself.
43:29And hopefully the rest of Canada will be proud of me as well.
43:30Going into the Olympic season, no one's going to push me as hard as I will.
43:35It's what motivates me to be the best that I can.
43:38I'm nipping at everyone's heels and I'm going to show everyone that I'm actually the top dog.
43:43This year was really hard.
43:45But my work is not finished.
43:48Kicking or screaming, we're going to get there.
43:50To the big final crescendo, the Olympic Games.
43:55To the high level, we're going to get there.
44:14I'm sorry.
44:15Mywork is not finished.
44:17I'm sorry.
44:18I'm shame.
44:18I'm sorry.
44:19I'm sorry.
44:20I'm sorry.
