00:01I'm Jane McDonald, let's go exploring and I'm on a trans-global trip of a lifetime
00:09Oh wow look, what the hell are we doing out here?
00:13Seeing incredible sights, this is paradise, it's heaven, it's heaven
00:19Meeting amazing people, can I have a hug off all of you?
00:23And having unforgettable experiences
00:25I'd only dreamed about
00:31Come here, it's a pleasure
00:34Cheers!
00:36This is Jane McDonald, from pole to pole
00:46My adventure began in the largely unexplored southernmost continent in the world
00:52We have conquered Antarctica
00:56Whoa!
00:58Aboard my Discovery Yacht, I've made new mates
01:01Here's to adventure, and here's to new friendships
01:04Yes, definitely
01:06I've been up close and personal with awe-inspiring wildlife
01:09Look at those!
01:11Travelling from Uruguay to Brazil
01:14I'm taking a leap of faith in Latin America
01:17Wait!
01:19That is the 1600s!
01:21Yeah!
01:22But you look so cool!
01:24I'd only skimmed the surface of Brazil
01:26So I'm sticking around to discover more of the places we don't often hear about
01:30I don't know if you've ever seen a film called An Affair to Remember
01:41But I always remember the romantic film and this beautiful scenery coming in and I just think, gosh, I hope I get to go there one day
01:49And it was just like that film
01:53We are sailing into Ilabela, what a beautiful name
01:59Where the mist and the clouds are kissing the top of the mountains and the waves are lapping luxuriously against the ship
02:07I love Brazil!
02:09Woo!
02:12For the first time on this journey, I'm treading a more traditional tourist trail
02:18But some of the places I'll visit might just surprise you
02:21So I'm starting on the island of Ilabela, part of an archipelago, just off the coast of Sao Paulo
02:29From here, I'll head north to the mangroves of Paraty
02:33Then the beautiful Buzios Peninsula
02:36And on to my final Brazilian checkpoint, Rio de Janeiro
02:42You must be Duda!
02:44Yes, that's me! You must be James!
02:45I am! How are you?
02:47Nice to meet you!
02:48Lovely to see you!
02:49Thank you!
02:50We're going on a jeep too?
02:51Yes, let's go!
02:52Come on!
02:54As I'm writing the playbook for my trip, I've asked local guide Duda to surprise me with a private tour of the best bits of Ilabela
03:03That's exciting, isn't it?
03:04And here we go!
03:05Woohoo!
03:09Ilabela is officially called Ilha de São Sebastião
03:13With around 40 beaches spread along its coastline
03:16Oh look, there's a whole town
03:17The island was first discovered in 1502 by a Portuguese expedition, who described it as paradise on earth
03:26So it's no wonder Ilabela has become a popular holiday destination
03:30This is the historical centre of the island, this is where the story of the island began
03:34Right
03:35So the houses that we have in here are more antique
03:39Uh-huh
03:40This used to be a jail
03:42Uh-huh
03:43And now it works like a museum
03:46And this is the church of the island as well
03:49Lovely!
03:51Our Lady of Help
03:52That's lovely!
03:53We all need that!
03:55Duda tells me the Lady of Help, or the Virgin Mary, was named by early Portuguese settlers
04:01And is the patron saint of the island
04:04They had like a tradition to name the places they discovered with the name of the saint of the day
04:12Right!
04:13So we have the island of São Sebastião
04:15We have the city of São Sebastião
04:17The highest peak of Ilabela is the peak of São Sebastião
04:21All right!
04:22And we have the canal, that guess what?
04:24San Sebastião!
04:25No!
04:26No!
04:27No!
04:28Yes!
04:29Who are we talking?
04:31That isziel
04:32That is uh…
04:33A beach from São !!
04:34I like to do this joke
04:36You did it…
04:37I fell for it…
04:38Yes
04:39ısı
04:41So if you look up, you can see that like the mountains they've used
04:44So, if you look up, you can see that like the mountains, we do not have a lot of houses
04:52building on top of the island or at a certain height, this is because it's the preservation
04:58area.
04:59What a good idea.
05:03In fact, more than 80% of the island is designated as a protected area to preserve the biodiversity.
05:10It feels beautifully unspoilt.
05:13This is the Bells Beach.
05:16Fantastic.
05:18There's a lot of beaches and I'm not exactly sure why Dudas brought me to this one.
05:23So now we are going to see some rocks.
05:26Some rocks?
05:27Yes.
05:28Okay.
05:29But they are not usual rocks, they make sounds like bells.
05:32Oh.
05:33Once the villagers were sleeping and they woke up to the sound of bells.
05:38We're like, what is happening here?
05:40We do not have any bells and then the natives were screaming and pointing at those rocks
05:46and screaming, garapocaia, garapocaia.
05:49That means rocks that sing.
05:51Singing rocks?
05:52Singing rocks.
05:53Oh, well, meant to be.
05:54And because of that sound, they were able to defend themselves from pirate attack.
05:59That was going to happen.
06:00Really?
06:01That was going to happen.
06:02Oh, wow.
06:03Yeah.
06:04Do you want to try it?
06:06Can I?
06:07Of course.
06:08Careful.
06:09It's really heavy.
06:10Oh, yeah.
06:11That's definitely the sound.
06:13Yes, it is.
06:14Can you do it?
06:15Of course.
06:16Oh, no.
06:17Wow.
06:18We've lost the clangor.
06:19We've lost the guide and we've lost the clangor.
06:35This is classic Duda.
06:37Oh, dear.
06:38Oh!
06:39The highest one is this one.
06:43Are they hollow?
06:44No.
06:45No?
06:46Because of the granulation of the rock.
06:48Uh-huh.
06:49If you put your hands, you can see that it's really thin.
06:52Yeah.
06:53They say that...
06:54Oh, yeah.
06:55In other places of the world, they use this to make musical instruments.
07:00Oh, wow.
07:01Singing rocks.
07:02I would have thought that.
07:03Thank you so much.
07:05It was quite mystical.
07:08You bang these rocks and it's like a church bell.
07:11How amazing.
07:12Great shopping centre as well, so I did buy a couple of shirts.
07:15Very happy.
07:18Ooh!
07:22The Jeep tour was quite bouncy.
07:25I just got hit by a tree.
07:27I thought we had a lot of pottles, but they've got a lot of pottles here as well.
07:34But with scenery like this, I don't mind.
07:38So, this is the viewpoint that I was telling you about, the Mirante do Barreiros.
07:44Across the canal, we have the city of San Sebastian.
07:47A little more there, we have Caraguatatuba.
07:49Right.
07:50That is cloudy right now.
07:51But it's definitely there.
07:52It's there, yes.
07:53If you believe very strongly.
07:54Okay.
07:55There's like little veils everywhere of mist that come down and just, all of a sudden,
08:09they unveil themselves.
08:12This is a very romantic place here.
08:14You can see why.
08:15It is very, very beautiful.
08:17Yes, it is.
08:18Well, thank you so much for such a lovely tour today.
08:22I could not be happier.
08:23I appreciate it a lot.
08:25Bless you.
08:26Bless you too.
08:27All right.
08:28Looking out to the sea and the mountains and the ship and the breeze, and it was perfect,
08:40really.
08:41I'm just going to take a moment to drink it all in.
08:47Cheers.
08:48Well, it's almost midday.
08:53I'm in.
08:55Coming up, I head to the mangroves of Parachis.
08:58Ah, ha, ha.
08:59Ah.
09:00To kayak in nature's playground.
09:02I didn't know that crabs could climb trees.
09:05And I get to picnic with a desert island dish.
09:08It's a bit like Robinson Crusoe.
09:10You're my man Friday.
09:11The guy with the coconut.
09:12Mmm.
09:13Feels a bit that way.
09:15It's a new day, and what a view to wake up to.
09:27I'm over halfway through my pole-to-pole voyage, currently sailing along the coast of Brazil.
09:34I'm in Parity, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on the Costa Verde.
09:39I've always wanted to explore this lush green corridor that runs alongside the coastline,
09:45famous for its biodiversity.
09:48Parachis sits on the bay of Isla Grande.
09:52It's dotted with many tropical islands and is about 154 miles from the city of Rio de Janeiro.
09:59Parachis is all built on rivers, and they call it Little Venice.
10:06We were extremely lucky to get in, and I thought this will be good.
10:12Hi, Felipe.
10:13Yes, I am.
10:14I'm Jane.
10:15Good to meet you.
10:16How are you?
10:17Very well, and you?
10:18I'm good, okay.
10:20Today, I'm pushing the boat out.
10:22Or rather, my guide Felipe is.
10:24Going to the mangroves?
10:25Yes.
10:26Mangrove.
10:27I want to say man's grove every time.
10:29It's mangrove.
10:30Well, in Portuguese it's manguezau, but in English it's mangrove.
10:34Mangrove.
10:35Okay.
10:36Let's go.
10:37Several guides offer tours to the narrow channels where land meets sea.
10:41But they're only wide enough for a kayak, so we're heading to pick ours up.
10:46So here in this bay area is 65 islands.
10:49Right.
10:50The big one out there is manchimento.
10:53Manchimento means groceries.
10:55Right.
10:56So the ships from Portugal, when they bring the groceries, they unload in there.
11:00Uh-huh.
11:01Because here's shallow.
11:02And then from there it comes on the smaller boats or canoes, and they could go up on the
11:07channels or up on the streets when the tide is up.
11:10Ah.
11:11So you get everything you need here?
11:13Yeah.
11:14Sounds a great place to live.
11:16Yeah, it's good.
11:19Supplies were brought in by large ships for centuries, even gold.
11:23But now these biodiverse waters are protected.
11:27Some of the islands is an ecological station, like one kilometer around the island.
11:32You can do nothing.
11:33Wow.
11:34No fishing, no snorkeling, even pulling the anchor out is against the law.
11:38Right.
11:39It's just for the fish to reproduce and for the scientists to do research.
11:43So here we can see, in between the hills, the lower area, the vegetation with a different
11:49grain, that's the mangroves.
11:51Ah.
11:52What are the mangroves?
11:55Mangrove is one ecosystem, very special, because it's full of kind of species that lives
12:02only there.
12:03Uh-huh.
12:04Crabs, birds, mussels, shrimps, and lobsters.
12:09Everything goes to the mangroves to reproduce.
12:12Right.
12:13So, Dion Felipe, we've only just met.
12:16Which one you like better, the green or the pink?
12:19Well, green to match.
12:20Okay.
12:21To match my clothes, obviously.
12:24I thought to myself, well, if I fall out here, at least I'm a relatively good swimmer.
12:31Two people holding you, you can do it like this.
12:34And the water's warm.
12:35So I wasn't as scared.
12:37You're welcome.
12:38This time.
12:39I'm in.
12:40Then I was in Antarctica in the kayaking.
12:43Oh, my God.
12:44Whoa.
12:45Sorry about that.
12:48I'm not gonna die, which is always a good thing to have.
12:53So I'm gonna synchronize with you.
12:56Oh, dear.
12:57And then it's gonna look like we know what we're doing.
13:01Okay.
13:02Which is absolute rubbish.
13:04Yeah, there you go.
13:06Perfect.
13:07Very slowly.
13:08Okay.
13:09Gosh, look at this.
13:10We got this, like, built-in area, which was like a little tunnel.
13:22I'm so pleased he knows how to drive this.
13:26Because I don't.
13:28The leaves and the trees made, like, a little archway where you could literally just get
13:35in with a kayak.
13:37Oh, sorry.
13:38No problem.
13:39And this is bromelia.
13:40It's a type of a plant that doesn't need to root.
13:43Under the bromelia is a red crab.
13:45Oh, yeah.
13:46Yeah, you see it?
13:47Oh.
13:48Just move it back.
13:49Move it back.
13:50There you go.
13:51Oh, that's the crab.
13:52Don't worry.
13:53They don't climb on us.
13:54Yeah.
13:55Look at that crab there.
13:56See?
13:57These are the crabs.
13:58I didn't know that crabs could climb trees.
13:59Yeah.
14:00Do they all climb trees?
14:01Well, there's some ones, they stay in the water full-time.
14:02Uh-huh.
14:03And they're the ones that are, like, the filters.
14:04They eat all the bad stuff?
14:05Yeah.
14:06Everything that dies, leaves, animals, they're going to clean it up.
14:23They're kind of the vultures of the sea.
14:25Wow.
14:26And then we have another kind that is never in the water.
14:30I never knew that.
14:33But it was so special to see the crabs in there and learn about...
14:38Because it looks very dirty, did the water, but it wasn't dirty at all.
14:42It was so clean, the water.
14:44And it was the reflection of the mud and the clay that was underneath.
14:50So, Felipe, these mangroves, are they important to the environment?
14:55Yes, they are.
14:56They are very important to...
14:58If the water is clear in the reefs and you can go snorkeling, it's because the mangroves are filtering it.
15:06Oh, so it actually filters the water?
15:09It does, it does.
15:10These roots, there are two types of roots.
15:13One is the one that sustains the tree, that gives the shape of it.
15:18Mm-hmm.
15:19And the other ones are the nose or kind of snorkel.
15:22It's like where they breathe through.
15:24Oh, wow.
15:25This is the spoonbill.
15:27Yeah, I can hear that.
15:29Yeah.
15:30We have migratory birds that rest in the mangroves.
15:34They eat a lot, they twice their weight, and then they keep on traveling.
15:38Wow.
15:40I'm doing that on a cruise, eating twice my weight at the moment.
15:43Let's do some workout.
15:44Okay.
15:45Woo!
15:46All the experts say, get out into the fresh air and it will clear your head.
16:00And it was wonderful to be that in nature, did my mind a lot good.
16:12Oh, sorry.
16:13No problem.
16:14You can go just a little more vertical.
16:17The pedal, one goes higher and the other goes lower, like vertically.
16:22Mais vertical.
16:23Ah, like that.
16:24Yeah, there you go, vertically.
16:26Ah-ha-ha.
16:27Ah-ha.
16:28I'll let you navigate us in.
16:33Woo!
16:38Woo!
16:39Oh, there you go.
16:44That's a lot easier, isn't it, eh?
16:47A lot easier.
16:49Legs first.
16:50Legs first.
16:51Just legs first.
16:52One, two, slide to the side.
16:54Okay.
16:55There you go.
16:56This could be difficult.
16:57Rawr!
16:59Good job.
17:00High five.
17:01Hey, thank you very much.
17:03What could possibly make today any better?
17:06Felipe is full of surprises.
17:08Oh, look at this.
17:09After all this workout, I have a little coconut for you.
17:13Oh, bless you.
17:14And a little snack.
17:16A beach picnic.
17:17You use the soy sauce.
17:18Oh, soy sauce.
17:19Mm-hmm.
17:20For the carrot.
17:21And the cucumber and the coconut.
17:22Even the mangoes, you can use the soy sauce like that.
17:23Really?
17:24Mm-hmm.
17:25Well, I've never done that before.
17:26Yum.
17:27Try it out.
17:28Mmm.
17:29I'd never had mango with soy sauce.
17:30But I'll tell you what, it was one of the most delicious things I've tasted.
17:35I was like, mango?
17:36Gorgeous.
17:37Try it.
17:38It's really good.
17:39So, I'm on this trip, pole to pole.
17:40It seems to be a lot of people want to do this now.
17:43They want to experience adventure and discover islands that.
17:45Well, that's what makes you alive.
17:47It certainly does.
17:48I'm feeling very alive.
17:49Yeah.
17:50Me too.
17:51Yeah.
17:52So, that's what makes you alive.
17:53It certainly does.
17:54I'm feeling very alive.
17:55Yeah, me too.
17:56Yeah.
17:57So, that's what makes you alive.
17:58Yeah.
17:59Yeah.
18:00Yeah.
18:01Yeah.
18:02Yeah.
18:03Yeah.
18:04Yeah.
18:05Yeah.
18:06Yeah.
18:07Me too.
18:08Yeah.
18:09So, this is all very good.
18:10I learned such a lot how passionate he was about his island and how much studying he'd
18:16done to preserve it and to keep it as it is.
18:21Yeah.
18:22And there's not a crab or a shrimp or a lobster inside.
18:26No.
18:27Not in there.
18:28This is vegan.
18:29Now, it's very popular to be vegan.
18:31It is, isn't it?
18:32Yeah.
18:33Oh, I love coconut.
18:34Yeah.
18:35And I think that's what I'm really taking from this trip of Brazil.
18:39This part of Brazil is that people are very protective.
18:44It's a bit like Robinson Crusoe.
18:47Do you know Robinson Crusoe?
18:48You're my mom Friday.
18:49The guy with the coconut.
18:51Mm.
18:52Feels a bit that way.
18:53I want to shout hallelujah from the biggest, tallest mountain out there because I don't
19:02want it to change because it's so beautiful.
19:06This is lovely.
19:07Thank you for the most amazing day.
19:09You're very welcome.
19:10It's been fabulous.
19:12Farewell Man Friday.
19:13And Parachi Paradise.
19:14I have to get back on board to head to my next destination.
19:27This captain knows you've got the bridge.
19:29We've just heaving open the anchor now.
19:31Anchor's away.
19:32So we'll be departing in the next couple of minutes and making our way onwards to Ruzios.
19:40Despite travelling the world for nearly four decades, I've always been shockingly bad when
19:45it comes to languages.
19:46But it turns out I needn't worry.
19:48There's a new fangled thing now on your phone called Translate.
19:53And I've just downloaded Portuguese Brazil because I don't speak Portuguese or Brazil.
19:59Well, it is Portuguese in Brazil, isn't it?
20:01So I've downloaded that and it says Portuguese Brazil there.
20:06So I'm going to do a few phrases now.
20:09God knows what this is going to be like.
20:12Just to see if I can get by.
20:15So, let's have a go.
20:20Hello, how are you?
20:23Hello, how are you?
20:26Right, let's see if this works.
20:33Good afternoon, this is your cruise director Cat here.
20:39Hello, how are you?
20:44Hello, how are you?
20:51Hello, how are you?
20:54That sounded alright, didn't it?
20:56I'm very well, thank you.
20:59I'm very well.
21:01I'm very well.
21:03I'm very well.
21:06You see, I've got the rhythm as well.
21:09Where is the nearest toilet?
21:11Where is the nearest toilet?
21:14Where is the nearest toilet?
21:19Where is the nearest toilet?
21:20Where is the nearest toilet?
21:24Where is the nearest toilet?
21:25Oh, forget it.
21:26I might wet myself by then.
21:30Are you married?
21:31there you go
21:40coming up
21:44I believe it's very golden
21:46where people have touched you
21:47I come face to face
21:49with a bonafide bombshell
21:50and one of the movie world's
21:52most famous icons
21:53I'm just noticing
21:54that your lips are very golden
21:56have they been kissing you
21:59without your permission
22:00shocking
22:01and I enjoy a blockbuster
22:04trolleybus tour
22:05of the beautiful beaches
22:06now on your left side
22:09you'll see
22:10the smallest beach
22:11here in Búzios
22:12and it's called
22:14Seals Beach
22:15in Portuguese it's Foca
22:17having sailed 220 nautical miles
22:33along the coast
22:34I'm refreshed
22:35revitalized
22:37and ready to explore
22:38a place I've longed to visit
22:40I'm in the beautiful bay of Búzios
22:45in Brazil
22:47and this is where Brigitte Bardot
22:50escaped all the paparazzi
22:52she came here with a Brazilian boyfriend
22:55and not a bad kick if he can get it is it
22:58a Brazilian boyfriend called Bob
23:01it's not very Brazilian is it
23:04Roberto maybe
23:06Roberto
23:06yeah Bob
23:07for short
23:08she had one friend
23:10who was a journalist
23:11and he took lots and lots of pictures
23:14of her here
23:15when it was just a little fishing village
23:17and as you can see now
23:19it's turned into one of the most famous places
23:22in Brazil
23:23while not an island
23:29Búzios has that vibe
23:31it spans about 27 square miles
23:34on a small peninsula
23:36on Brazil's eastern coast
23:3760 years since Brigitte Bardot visited
23:41she's still the main attraction
23:43with a life-size bronze statue
23:45on the waterfront
23:47I believe it's very golden
23:49where people have touched you
23:51and I'm just noticing
23:52that your lips are very golden
23:54have they been kissing you
23:56without your permission
23:57shocking
23:59nice outfit by the way
24:03she was wearing a pair of flip-flops
24:06and like a crocheted top
24:09and nothing underneath
24:10because she's Brigitte Bardot
24:13and beautiful
24:14she could put a bin bag on
24:16and she'd look great
24:17wouldn't she
24:18nicknamed the Saint-Tropez of Brazil
24:21with its breathtaking beaches
24:23and chic boutiques
24:24of course it made it onto my bucket list
24:27oh my god
24:29look at this view
24:29right then
24:31let's go
24:32and one of the best ways
24:36for me and my shipmates
24:37to see Búzios
24:38hello hello
24:39it's hopping on board
24:41a trolley bus tour
24:42led by local guide Hooli
24:44I'll try to speak slowly
24:47and loud
24:49okay
24:50sometimes
24:51things don't go to plan
24:54unfortunately
24:55the microphone doesn't work
24:57it wasn't a proper trolley bus
25:00as we would think
25:01in like San Francisco
25:03or something like that
25:04this is a pretty sport
25:06isn't it
25:06no without a doubt
25:07this was a truck
25:10it was a truck
25:11with just
25:13a load of benches
25:14and a canopy on the top
25:15but it's made it
25:17all the more exhilarating
25:18for me
25:19and my new pal Melissa
25:20it's the first proper resort town
25:23I've visited
25:24since starting my journey
25:25in Antarctica
25:26here we have
25:2826 beaches
25:30so I'm just gonna sit back
25:33and enjoy the ride
25:34on your left side
25:39you'll see
25:40the statue
25:41of the three fishermen
25:43it was also made
25:45by Christina Mota
25:46the same who made
25:48the statue
25:48of Brigitte
25:49and it was made
25:52in honor
25:52of our fishermen
25:55here in the city
25:56we might have
26:01a microphone
26:03that works now
26:04bless her
26:05she's having to shout
26:05everything
26:06hi hi
26:07hi
26:08yeah
26:0895%
26:13of this neighborhood
26:14are of B&B's
26:16and hotels
26:17and only 5%
26:19are for
26:20private residences
26:22this artsy colonial town
26:29tends to be more affordable
26:31than many Caribbean
26:32and Mediterranean resorts
26:33I know it sounds
26:35odd this
26:36but parts of it
26:37reminded me of Cornwall
26:38because of the beautiful
26:40green hills
26:41going into the sea
26:42I live in three wheel
26:45all the way down
26:45when you're up
26:46on the top
26:47of the hill
26:47you know
26:49there's that
26:49lovely breeze
26:50that is so
26:52refreshing up there
26:54look at that
26:55ooh
26:56in the end of December
26:59until Carnaval
27:01we have a lot of people
27:03here in Buzes
27:04so sometimes
27:06the traffic
27:07can make you
27:09stay for hours
27:11that's also a lot
27:12on wall
27:13so now we are
27:27arriving
27:27at João Fernandes
27:29viewpoint

27:33for snorkeling
27:34diving
27:34and kayaking
27:35I think my
27:36white-knuckle trolley
27:37ride will do me
27:38today
27:38I mean look
27:43at this
27:44it is
27:46I think
27:47the prettiest island
27:48we've come to
27:49so far
27:50it's very beautiful
27:52it was a beautiful view
27:56right
27:56oh yes

28:34it's really
28:35really beautiful
28:36she's right
28:38this dramatic
28:39landscape
28:40where rugged
28:40cliffs meet
28:41tranquil turquoise
28:42waters
28:42takes your breath
28:43away
28:44the time to come
28:46here is probably
28:47April
28:48and it's just
28:50perfect
28:51not too many
28:52people
28:53and you can get
28:54around
28:55and the temperature
28:56is perfect
28:58don't you think
28:59it looks like
28:59Cornwall
29:00I think it looks
29:00like Cornwall
29:01and we're off
29:04again
29:04oh that's beautiful
29:07to deal with the
29:08ship
29:08now on your left
29:14side
29:15you'll see
29:16the smallest beach
29:17here in Búzios
29:18and it's called
29:20Seals Beach
29:21in Portuguese
29:22it's foca
29:23it's a funny word
29:26in English
29:26yeah
29:27so
29:28I don't know
29:29what it means
29:30but
29:30that is foca

30:02first time
30:02every place
30:03that we've stopped
30:04every port
30:05has had its
30:07own culture
30:08I guess
30:08its own vibe
30:09its own feel
30:10I don't know
30:10if you're like
30:11I am
30:11but I'm a bit
30:12of a wonderless
30:13now
30:13I want to go
30:14and see as much
30:15as I possibly can
30:16learn more
30:16yes
30:17it's great
30:18we're retired
30:19now
30:19that is our life
30:20now
30:20and we love it
30:22I think it's just
30:23the best thing to do
30:24absolutely
30:24and all the people
30:25you meet
30:26along the way
30:27it's just been
30:28amazing
30:28yeah

30:30fantastic
30:30oh I'm so pleased

30:32very much
30:33well
30:33I think it's time
30:35for us to get back
30:35on board
30:36okay
30:36I'm really worried
30:38that we might have
30:39to get out
30:39and push this
30:40thing
30:40I know
30:40well
30:42I was worried
30:43when we were going
30:43down
30:44I hope he has
30:44good breaks
30:45come on
30:47let's go
30:48I would love
30:51to have stayed
30:52in Buzios
30:52for at least
30:53three or four weeks
30:54it's just got
30:56enough
30:57shops
30:58just enough
31:00bars
31:01oh
31:02oh
31:03thank you very much
31:06wow
31:07beautiful beaches
31:10gorgeous countryside
31:12lovely people
31:14this
31:16is
31:17the
31:17Madame
31:18Bardot
31:20a knockout
31:22blend of
31:22cachaça
31:23lemon and sugar
31:24syrup
31:25it's as tasty
31:30as she was
31:32people seemed
31:34really happy
31:35there
31:35I know
31:37I was
31:37here's to you
31:39Bridget
31:39and Bob
31:41I bet
31:46Bridget
31:46travelled
31:46blind
31:47and wherever
31:48I go
31:49I'm keen
31:49to do the same
31:50I don't know
31:51about you
31:52but I've
31:53always had
31:53a massive
31:54bag like this
31:56when I'm
31:57travelling
31:57in the airport
31:58I do need
32:00a big bag
32:00because I put
32:01magazines in
32:01I've got my
32:02passport
32:02I've got my
32:03purse
32:03I've got
32:04everything in
32:04there
32:05but the
32:05trouble is
32:06the bigger
32:06your bag
32:07the more
32:08you'll put
32:08in it
32:09this is
32:10the bag
32:10you should
32:11go out
32:11with
32:11a little
32:12crossbody
32:13little
32:14these pouches
32:15that you can
32:15get now
32:16because one
32:18you've got
32:18both hands
32:19free
32:20and I don't
32:20know if you're
32:21like me
32:21but when I've
32:22got a shoulder
32:22strap on
32:23like that
32:24I'm always
32:24hitching it up
32:25it's always
32:25falling down
32:26and it's
32:27heavy
32:28so I
32:29tend to
32:30have my
32:31little bag
32:31with my
32:32lipstick
32:32and a
32:35balm
32:36for my
32:37lips
32:37in case
32:37because
32:38you're in
32:38different
32:38climate
32:39whether it's
32:39hot
32:39cold
32:40always keep
32:41a balm
32:42with you
32:42also
32:43sunglasses
32:45now I have
32:47bought a
32:48different case
32:49for my
32:49sunglasses
32:50because usually
32:51sunglasses
32:52come in a
32:53big chunky
32:54case
32:55whereas this
32:56is fantastic
32:57it's very
32:58very pliable
32:59then
33:00comb
33:01you don't need
33:01a load of
33:02brushes
33:02just take a
33:03comb to put
33:04through your
33:04hair
33:05that's all
33:06you need
33:06and if
33:08you do
33:08take
33:09medication
33:10there's
33:11these little
33:12little pouches
33:13now
33:14that you can
33:14get
33:15I have
33:16everything in
33:17here
33:17I've got
33:18seasickness
33:19tablets
33:20I've got
33:21paracetamols
33:23I've got
33:23gaviscone
33:23but that
33:24is a little
33:25pouch
33:26that will
33:27fit in
33:27that bag
33:28these are
33:30really
33:31really heavy
33:31weigh a ton
33:33which then
33:34is bad
33:35on your
33:35shoulder
33:35so
33:37you don't
33:38need all
33:38these cards
33:39just take
33:41one
33:41credit card
33:42with you
33:43and a bit
33:43of cash
33:44in case
33:44taxes
33:45don't take
33:46cards
33:46or you
33:47you know
33:48just the
33:48tips
33:49things like
33:50that
33:50always keep
33:50a little
33:51bit of
33:51money
33:51with you
33:51and that
33:53is basically
33:54that
33:55sunglasses
33:56lippy
33:58bit of
33:59perfume
34:00a comb
34:01and of
34:03course
34:04your
34:05civilisation
34:06your life
34:07coming up
34:10I'm feeling
34:11on top of
34:12the world
34:12in Rio
34:13oh my god
34:14you actually
34:15feel like
34:15you're flying
34:16and I
34:18savour
34:18my final
34:19flavours
34:19of Brazil
34:20oh that's
34:21lovely
34:22sapping up
34:23the coconut
34:23and cheese
34:24I've never
34:24had that
34:25before
34:25before
34:36I finish
34:37the South
34:37American
34:38chapter
34:38of my
34:39pole to
34:39pole story
34:40I have
34:41time for
34:41one last
34:42very special
34:42very quick
34:43pit stop
34:44in Rio
34:45de Janeiro
34:46but it's not
34:59Carnival Rio
35:00I've come
35:00to see
35:01I didn't
35:02expect
35:03to be
35:04blown away
35:05by the
35:05rural parts
35:06of Brazil
35:07and
35:08Antarctica
35:09and
35:09Falklands
35:10and
35:11South
35:11Georgia
35:12as a result
35:13I've developed
35:14a hunger
35:15to see
35:15more of
35:15the planet's
35:16natural beauty
35:17so it's
35:18Sugarloaf Mountain
35:19that's brought
35:19me here
35:20this monolithic
35:22granite landmark
35:23sat on the
35:24peninsula
35:24at the mouth
35:26of Guanabara Bay
35:27396 metres
35:29above the
35:29harbour
35:30okay
35:32here comes that
35:33thank you
35:34and for an
35:35even better view
35:36of the mountain
35:37and all
35:38of Rio
35:38oh
35:39here we go
35:41I need to
35:43get up there
35:44okay
35:48my advice is
35:52if you don't
35:53like heights
35:53don't do this
35:55but you'd
35:57miss out
35:58on one of
35:58the most
35:58iconic views
36:00in the world
36:00across the city
36:02the South
36:02Atlantic
36:03and of course
36:04Christ the Redeemer
36:05mind the gap
36:07between the
36:08cable car
36:08and the
36:09platform
36:09it's a
36:10two-part
36:11ascent
36:12and if part
36:12one is anything
36:13to go by
36:14I'm in for
36:15a spectacular
36:15treat
36:16I mean
36:24it's well
36:25worth the
36:25queuing
36:25look at
36:28that
36:29but
36:32my journey
36:33is only
36:34half way
36:34I've got
36:35another cable
36:36car to get
36:36and get
36:37even nearer
36:38to Christ
36:39oh my god
36:49you actually
36:49feel like
36:50you're flying
36:51it's a bit
36:53of a thrill
36:53this
36:54I can't
36:54lie
36:54this is
36:55thrilling
36:55even more
36:57so knowing
36:58it's apparently
36:58the third
36:59oldest cable
37:00car in the
37:01world
37:01snares
37:02and pops
37:03but
37:04we've made it
37:06and I found
37:13a cheeky bar
37:14at the top
37:14to pause
37:15and take
37:15all this in
37:16look at this view
37:20I mean
37:21that is quite
37:22stunning
37:23heavenly
37:26in fact
37:27hello
37:31hi
37:32thank you
37:34this looks
37:37good
37:37I'm trying
37:39one last
37:40authentic
37:41speciality
37:42before I
37:42leave
37:43tapioca
37:44for coconuts
37:45and some
37:46cheese
