00:00I heard, I don't know, I like getting you on because I never know how accurate the reporting is, but is it accurate that post-game, you chugged Miller Lite, and then you Mount Crushmore'd it, is that accurate?
00:13I was just walking by, Morgan handed me something, I trusted him, and then I just put it right in Will's face, just having fun.
00:19Okay, and was the, did you crush the can off the head?
00:22No, no.
00:22Okay, no, okay.
00:24Not on this face.
00:26Everyone made the bus?
00:27Now you're good.
00:27Everyone made the bus.
00:28Nice.
00:29Zero issues.
00:30That's great.
00:31Walked on at 8 o'clock and everybody was there.
00:34Good job.
00:35From a weather perspective, a ton of stuff to talk about when it comes to that game and obviously the next one, but from a weather perspective, they were saying broadcast-wise that we couldn't even tell how bad it was, but it got really bad.
00:47The wind was a factor, and then it was kind of like a wet snow, you know, somewhere out here.
00:54The field was actually, it kind of started to freeze on top.
00:58You could see Ramondre kind of slipped there, so the footing was interesting.
01:03And again, those are just things that you have to be ready for and try to plan for and adjust accordingly.
01:10No more, like, because I try to get a look at the guys' cleats.
01:13I know they have the grass field, and when you get the weather like that, the guys are not wearing seven studs no more?
01:17It's impossible to try to get these.
01:19They never used them growing up.
01:22Okay.
01:22You know what I mean?
01:23It's like telling them to stay off their phones.
01:26When it comes to Drake and the awareness at the end of the half, for him to be aware that there was one second left to go down, I know it didn't result in points, but to give Andy the opportunity, how impressive is that as a second-year quarterback?
01:38Well, those are things that we've been practicing, and again, that's kind of what we ended up doing the last couple weeks there at the end of the half.
01:45And we kind of go through these scenarios, and Mike, if you're going to scramble, we're going to have to know how far we can get before we have to get down or get out of bounds.
01:56So he's done a really nice job of that, and we're going to need some of those situations here in 13 days.
02:03He did say post-game that he thought you were going to be mad on the keeper to seal the game, that he ran out of bounds.
02:13No, because, again, once where the timeouts were and everything else, there's certain times where you're okay getting out of bounds if you get a first down.
02:22There's times where we would definitely like to stay in bounds, but in that situation, resetting the downs with them only, they don't have any timeouts, and we're good to go there.
02:34They've got the one timeout.
02:35A lot of intrigue about that particular play by itself.
02:40What's the play call there?
02:42Is he deciding to go on his own?
02:43No, he doesn't go rogue.
02:45No, those aren't things that he does and goes rogue.
02:47You know, so we discuss those things, and Josh and I talk them through and what we want to do in five minutes and plays that we have available, and, you know, those are always things that we can go to.
02:57So just trying to get everybody on the same page, and, you know, Drake was able to do that and give us – used his legs.
03:05And the situational awareness, I think, if there's one massive difference outside of the players and all the other things that have been changed year to year,
03:12it's that no situation felt like it was out of control.
03:15You watch the game.
03:16You go back to that Saints game where you challenge it so they wind the clock.
03:19You get Drake May running directly to you, sliding into the timeout with one second left.
03:24Is that something you're proud of this year, just seeing that the way the players have reacted and the way your staff has sort of been situationally aware at all moments?
03:31Yeah, I mean, I think that's one thing that I'm certainly proud of.
03:34And we didn't start doing those until training camp just because I felt like there was so much to do in the offseason
03:40that you don't want to bog them down with all these – I hate to call them one-timers.
03:46As critical as they are, you just don't want to bog them down because some guys become obsessed with it.
03:51And certainly I've been down that rabbit hole of getting – being obsessed with it and, you know, what's too much?
03:56Like, you know, are you going to take a hurry-up safety?
04:00You know what I mean?
04:00Like there's under four minutes and you get sacked inside the five-yard line and you're down
04:04and you should run the punt team out there and take a safety, but should you just line the offense up
04:08and hurry up and take a – you know what I mean?
04:10These things that you're like, okay, that could happen.
04:13It's never happened, but it could.
04:15And so, yes, so then we get into training camp and then we start to build.
04:20And some of it didn't look good.
04:21I just said, hey, bear with – just stay with it.
04:23Trust me, I've been through this.
04:24I've seen young players, seen all different players not get it in at first,
04:28not understand what the situation is.
04:31And just you have to be willing to talk, answer the questions, figure it out, trial and error,
04:38and then we've gotten better at it.
04:40Where are you kind of philosophically on the going for it as opposed to taking the points?
04:46It's, you know, I don't know if you pay attention to the –
04:49Oh, I mean, I think we all have to.
04:50Yeah, I mean, we do.
04:53And, again, you just – you know, I don't mind being aggressive.
04:58I don't mind being aggressive.
05:00You just – I think the biggest thing is trying to predict the flow of the game
05:03and what that's going to look like.
05:05And how many points do you think that you're going to need to eventually win the football game?
05:10I mean, we've gone for it and gotten it.
05:12We've gone for it and not gotten it.
05:14And, obviously, when you get it, it looks like a great decision.
05:18But the other side of the court is that you don't get it.
05:20And, you know, now the reaction and the response of what happens after that.
05:25And the first half of your offense really, you know, was struggling a little bit.
05:29But I thought –
05:29Do you hear Wiggy?
05:30I don't know.
05:31Can you hear Wiggy?
05:31I don't know.
05:32He probably showed his mic.
05:32Yes, I hear him.
05:33Okay.
05:34All right.
05:34Sorry about that.
05:35But coming out of the halftime, the adjustments,
05:39wanted to know what you said to your team because that nine-and-a-half-minute drive,
05:43which led to a field goal.
05:45In my opinion, that was, you know, one of the major parts
05:48in why you were able to win the football game.
05:49What was said at halftime?
05:51Yeah, that we're going to have to be able to run the football
05:53and move the line of scrimmage and stay committed to it, push some piles.
05:58You know, there's not going to be a whole lot of points in this football game.
06:00And then we have to come away with points.
06:02And I said, if you give us some points on this first drive,
06:05I've got a feeling that that's going to be all we're going to need.
06:09Milton Williams was very adamant after the game, saying,
06:12talk that S today, talking about how especially the defense has been disrespected,
06:17whether it's during the regular season, postseason.
06:20And then you've got reports coming out of people saying the Super Bowl
06:22was actually played in the NFC championship game.
06:25Do you like that your guys are playing with a chip on their shoulder?
06:27It seems to be working.
06:28However they have to get ready to play the football game,
06:31that's all I care about.
06:33Do you feel like they've been disrespected?
06:35It doesn't matter.
06:36I mean, we're in the Super Bowl, Courtney.
06:38Like, we can pump this thing up for 10 days.
06:41And, I mean, we're all compensated very well for what we do.
06:44So I don't think there's any disrespect from this building
06:46or my appreciation for our football team.
06:49It doesn't bother me.
06:51You know who's not in the Super Bowl?
06:53All the 30 other teams.
06:54The Steelers.
06:55They are not.
06:56They are not.
06:58Good thing I'm a Patriots fan.
06:59You suck, Courtney.
07:00You are a Steeler fan.
07:01Yeah, you are.
07:02You guys are so annoying.
07:04Those pictures, you cannot lie.
07:05They're pure joy.
07:06My second team is the Steelers.
07:08The pure joy that you have.
07:09You don't have that much team for your backup.
07:11Right.
07:12Yeah.
07:12And you're on the sideline wearing the gear.
07:14We can talk off air about the situation.
07:16We can talk off air.
07:18There's nothing that forgives it.
07:20Nope.
07:21That's okay.
07:21That's plenty.
07:22It's unforgivable.
07:23Black and yellow.
07:23I'm a good friend.
07:25And like I said back then, I was doing a Mike Rabel tour.
07:30Mike, here's what, you know,
07:32I was always interested in as I look at teams going to the Super Bowl and being part of it
07:37and haven't done it twice.
07:39How do you make sure that the guys, especially a lot of these younger guys in a different world
07:45with the social media and the technology, don't get so distracted with all the hoopla
07:51and to make sure that they stay focused and understand it's just another game.
07:57Again, that's what we've done most of the year.
07:59I would imagine that they're going to be on their phones just like they were last week.
08:03And, you know, we'll have to have a plan and we'll get them ready.
08:05We'll coach them.
08:06We'll keep them engaged, you know, when we get out there.
08:10And again, they're going to, I want them, we're going to, we've enjoyed this thing
08:14and they have to continue to enjoy it.
08:15But there's boundaries to that.
08:18Speaking of preparation, Devin McCourty joined us earlier before one of the playoff games.
08:22And he said that Bill Belichick would practice the Super Bowl halftime show
08:28in the buildup to the game, not like with the show,
08:30but that they would spend whatever the duration of halftime was off the field
08:34during their buildup to the Super Bowl and then return for the second half.
08:37But he said it actually gave them a pretty good advantage.
08:39Is that something you would consider doing?
08:42I would consider doing anything.
08:44You know, I mean, it's a little bit longer, you know, 25 minutes or whatever it is.
08:48Normal's 13.
08:49So, again, I guess, you know, those are things that we always have to consider
08:55and nobody, you know, got more practice at it than the people that have been here
09:00in this building.
09:01So, we'll try to do everything we can.
09:03We were talking earlier about the offense and it's so nitpicky
09:07because you guys win these football games.
09:10So, I'm confident that's what your answer is going to be to me.
09:13But just you look at these three games and Drake's completion percentage is 55%.
09:19It was set a franchise record in the regular season at 72%.
09:24Is there anything that's going on offense-wise, whether it be, you know,
09:30is it better defenses that you guys are facing?
09:34Yes, that's one of them.
09:35That's one of them.
09:36Lines struggling, weather, like, or is it just, you know.
09:40I mean, I think it's just a lot of those combinations in playoff football.
09:43And, you know, I mean, again, we're going to, you know,
09:45have to play better offensively.
09:46We'll have to continue to do what we've done defensively,
09:49try to take care of, you know, the football, which we did.
09:53We talked about going into Denver.
09:55You know, those teams that have won the last three years,
09:57the last two years that joined the Mile High Club,
09:59they didn't turn the ball over.
10:01We were the fourth one to go in there and win and not turn the ball over.
10:04When you talk about your defense,
10:07and one thing that I've really been impressed with you guys,
10:11especially in the postseason, is your aggressiveness, you know,
10:14whether that's, you know, adding extra guys.
10:16It seems like you're just really aggressive.
10:18What kind of led to that change a little bit,
10:22especially into the postseason,
10:24or is there something that you and the coaches talk about and say,
10:27hey, we want to be a little bit more aggressive here?
10:29I just think that that's kind of the plan that you look at each and every week.
10:33That could change here.
10:34We'll start game planning here this morning and figuring out what we need.
10:38But, you know, everything we do, we want to do it aggressively,
10:40but not recklessly,
10:41whether that's having the football in our hands or making a pass or blitzing.
10:45And, you know, we want to be sound, but, you know,
10:47also want to be aggressive.
10:49Leonard Taylor getting a taste of the ball.
10:53Those were his words.
10:56Tipping the ball there.
10:56Perfect time for you guys to call him up.
10:59How happy were you for him?
11:00Lenny T. Revenge game.
11:01Week seven.
11:02It lives on.
11:03Started with the Jets.
11:05Revenge game.
11:05And now we just have built on it.
11:07It's the stuff that we find really happy for him.
11:11You know, he's a great kid.
11:12And we talk about everybody's journey to their career.
11:16Looks a little differently.
11:17He was with the Jets.
11:18And we were able to pick him up and loved him.
11:22Loved his attitude, his willingness to work and try to make some plays
11:25and help his team, and he made another one.
11:27Some young guys on this team.
11:29How many guys on the team actually got the Warriors reference?
11:32There wasn't a single.
11:33I had to show the video.
11:35I got to actually show the movie.
11:36The video's terrible.
11:37No.
11:37All right.
11:38So.
