AccuWeather's Leslie Hudson reports growing ice buildup in Charlotte with officials warning outages could rival a 2002 storm.
Transcript
00:00Now the second act of this major ice storm is now underway in the Charlotte area. Look over my
00:05shoulder and you can see icicles on the street sign and on the trees. Now this is an area that
00:11saw a water main break early on Sunday morning but anytime we've been in this accumulation of water
00:17it's almost instantly freezing because temperatures have been steadily dropping
00:21in the Charlotte area. Take a look at the power lines too on this road in Charlotte so you can see
00:26the collection of the icicles. The concern as we head into these next 12 to 24 hours is how much of
00:32that accretion will the ice develop? Quarter of an inch manageable. Anything higher than a half of an
00:38inch that's where we're talking about those major problems with the ice power outages, long-standing
00:44power outages and some of the modeling from the officials here gets anywhere from a quarter of an
00:52inch of ice up to three quarters with maybe an inch of ice so that would devastate this part of
00:57Charlotte where we could see widespread power outages and could rival the major ice storm of 2002 where
01:04some parts of Charlotte, North Carolina were without power for up to two weeks. Keep you updated.
01:09Reporting in Charlotte, North Carolina, I'm Leslie Hudson for AccuWeather.
